  1. Mean Green basketball is just FUN! Men's or women's, each game has students screaming the entire length of the game, regardless of the score board. I've attended more basketall games this year alone than all high school games combined, because students actually will fight to be close to the floor, and if a ref makes a bad call, he'll know what we think about it. Tonight my 15 year old basketball fanatic brother will be at the game, because I've told him about the mean green, and hopefully in 3 years, he'll be an eagel too. Is it just me, or has attendance been increasing lately? For all those new comers, and especially the faithful ones who are there everytime, thanks for reviving and keeping the Green so Mean!

  2. Whatever the score, I had a *GREAT* time... Even tho it was freezing cold! huh.gif

I hope we do this again, soon!

A quick shout out: Thanks to everyone who put this together! MGQ and dolan, thanks for being great beer girls... Thank you Strange for being such a great ref (and for the MVP thing, I appreciate that!)... Thank you to our Ringer for coming out and having fun with us... Thank you for everyone who didn't play, but came out to support us, even tho it was really cold!

    GMG! biggrin.gif

**Edit: I'm so sorry to those I forgot. Thank you Stebo and Rick for helping set up the printing of the shirts... You guys are awesome... Anyone else I'm forgetting?**

  3. Yes I am a cheerleader and I have been to all the games I was scheduled to cheer and even some more.  The lack of crowd participation is a factor.  When I am down on the court and the only people yelling defense are us and the players, there is a problem.  I can count numerous times where this has occured.  Also leading cheers, I will say there are about 10 people max that follow the cheers the cheerleaders do, other than when we are doing defense.  I want to give you a challenge.  When the cheerleaders are cheering, cheer with them.  Don't bitch and say they are not doing anything when your lack of participation is not encouraging them to do otherwise.

    GMG!

I am not aware of cheerleader policies, as I'm sure most of this board aren't either. Would you mind informing us about attendance policies for the games? Thanks smile.gif

Oh, and in your opinion, do you think that the students have actively participated in the games more this season than previous seasons?

  4. How many games have you been to were BOTH coaches stayed in their box?  Until the refs tee em up, they're ALL gonna do it.

Maybe he acts differently at UNO, but last night, he was on the court *at least* 80% of the game. Why the refs allowed it, I don't know. But it was very frustrating for the fans because he was not only not supposed to be there, but he partly blocked our line of sight. It came off as being very unprofessional.

And in reference to what he was wearing, you have to realize that when he is at home at UNO, or away at other universities, he is representing *your* university, and he should try and make the best impression possible for it, and it's athletic dept. Just my opinion.

  5. For those of you that experienced it last night, what exactly happened with the event staff? I want to know specifics as to what was said or done. I am going to make sure that RV sees this thread.  I'll be calling him after a few good responses.

    So have at it.

The incident was mostly targeted to our group. I talked to RV afterwards, and explained my concerns, and he was very understanding our them, but he did have to support the event staff.

The problem was this: We've now started sitting on that side of the Pit, and we keep getting more and more students over there, so they're bleeding into the non-student (visitors) section, which was *empty* last night. I can understand the need to have a set student section, but IMO, they should've treated us students a little better (dare I say it, they should be kissing up to us, so that we'll keep coming back, and bring friends!). If I understand it correctly, the student section on that side of the Pit is only the first section... RV explained that we're not supposed to have any of our students in the section closest to the opposing team's bench. He did hint however, that the second section was ok (b/c there are so many of us). But last night, we kept being told to go back down to the first section. I know that several of us were getting really frustrated... All we wanted to do was cheer on our MEAN GREEN, and watch basketball... Not fight over our seats. We've gotten a lot of credit from coaches/players lately for being loud and rambunctious at the games, and last night almost made me want to sit in the top of the student section, being completely mute, and sitting on my hands... (like most of our fans).

My advice to the Event Staff: Please don't berate the fans you have that are actually trying. I'm going to go as far as to say that our rowdy group was instrumental in getting people to stand up and scream during the last part of the game. Do you really want to break our spirit?!? blink.gif

On a happier note, I think Brook, JayDub, and myself got into the yearbook! cool.gif

  6. Speaking of the refs ...  They tell our bench to sit down but not the uno coach to get off the court? blink.gif

That UNO coach knew what he was doing... and he knew he was pushing our buttons... Cody said he was really weird, too... tongue.gif

Plus, he was my height, and looked like he was wearing a borrowed cheap suit... Funny little man... laugh.gif
