  1. I sent a letter addressed to C. Dan Smith, BOR Chair (had to use the UNT system e-mail address since I can't find any direct one for the board). Also copied the President's Office. I expressed my concerns and urged the board not to accept the resignation.

Don't know if this can be salvaged, but I think this is a critical time for the future of UNT, and without Bataille at the helm things might not go the way we hope.

  2. I know they are closed when did the last two Piggly Wigglys close on the Loop, they were on the east side of Denton? I am just wondering we had this discussion in the office. They still showed open a few years ago, but I did not know when they went dark. I remember another one at Ft. Worth Drive and I-35 when I was a kid.

The last 2 Piggly Wigglys in Denton closed within the last 6 months (I think Sept or October-ish).

  3. I just listened to the halftime show with George speaking with RV...I have to say that I'm excited for next year. I'm also excited that the decision has been made and now we can move on. Hopefully Dodge will pull it together...I truly hope so...those players need to feel what winning is like. I wish him and his staff the best of luck in recruiting and for success next season! See you at Fouts for one last go around!!!

Now, let's put this football passion into Johnny Jones and his team. Can't wait for the next home game!!!

Ditto. Glad a decision has been made and we can move past this season. I'm looking forward to a successful recruiting season followed by a strong, competitive team next fall. Go Mean Green!

  4. Some of you need to find a place in your homes, open up a Corona, and relax. But, stay away from the keyboard and the general public tonight.

    (1) We lost to another injured team that was reeling from losses...yes, that's true. But, didn't we all half expect it?

    (2) Chase Baine didn't make the trip, Riley's arm was broken, and Nate's was separated (or something). Running the Wildcat instead of putting Thompson in would have been a disservice to the seniors on the team. Yes, even as few of them as there are, Dodge did what he could to keep competing to the end. A big, strong-armed Thompson was the thing that was going to give us a shot at winning this thing in miracle fashion, not snapping it to some tailback. I fault Dodge for many decisions over the past three years - this definitely isn't one of them.

    (3) Rick V will make a decision, then we'll live with it. Until then, man up with your second (or third) favorite team and enjoy the bowl season.

BUT, FOR PETE'S SAKE QUIT RE-HASHING THE FINAL TWO MINUTES OF THE ARKANSAS STATE GAME!

Sanity on the board at the end of a losing season? I didn't think it was possible. Nice job!

  5. Everything I've heard has the planned pharmacy school LOCATED in Denton, with some joint programs with UNT-Dallas. UNT wants a research heavy pharmacy school, so it must be based on a campus with a strong research infrastructure.

  7. The reason I was so frustrated by last night's loss is because we SHOULD have won. That is at least a better sign than last year, when we probably didn't even deserve to win the one game that we did pull out.

I hated the ending of the game yesterday -- but it wasn't the end of the world and is not a sign that we will never be better, quite the opposite.

  8. Thanks I am not going crazy!

I would have sworn there was when I was a freshman, but then I don't really remember it after. They should bring it back, we were playing Frisbee Golf at SMU a few years ago and went by their outside pool, very nice.

I swam in it when I was a freshman in 1983. I'm pretty sure that was the last year it was open. It sat empty for a long time before they finally tore it down a few years before construction of the ESSC.

  9. that was for a conference championship and first bowl trip in 40 years and we still only drew 20,000.

navy at fouts drew 27,000 for nothing on the line and a lousy unt team. it is all about the opponent at this time in unt's life. maybe someday it won't matter who we play like at a bcs school but we are not those schools yet, it still matters!

Actually, this was for the 2nd bowl berth in a row.

However, it is important to note that this game was 19,000 more than the same opponent drew two years previous.

It really is more about what our team is doing than about who the opponents are, for the most part.

  10. Impressive, but I see that also includes enrollment at UNT-Dallas. The Denton campus is going to take probably a 1500-2000 student decline when UNT-Dallas starts reporting as a stand alone school.

It will take a while before the enrollments will be officially separated. Although soon to be free-standing in the eyes of the state, the new campus still has to earn its own accreditation before it is truly free-standing. That process takes some time for any new university.

  11. Actually, I'm taking credit for the win. You see, yesterday was my mother-in-law's birthday.

Sept. 12 was my dad's birthday - so a win then is assured.

Sept. 19 is my cousin's birthday - so we are good.

Sept. 26 is my niece's birthday - good again.

Oct. 3 is an open week (good thing - no relatives with birthdays that day - bullet dodged!)

Oct. 10 is my sister's birthday.

By then, the team should be able to hold their own - which is good since I don't have any other relatives' birthdays for a while to help them out for the rest of the season!

Just for added measure, I will continue to wear the new UA shirt I just bought each game day and fly the new Mean Green car flag that I purchased for this year.

  12. He wasn't my friend. Just going by what I overheard. I hope you are right, but it wouldn't surprise me if it were true.

    Rick

Most estimates from the state and internal reports in the recent past have put UNT's maximum capacity at around no more than 45,000 when the Denton campus is fully built out. That would include several buildings that don't exist yet (according to the previous master plans - some of these would be in the Fouts area once it is gone). Given current buildings and classroom space, I would bet we are getting very close to current campus capacity -- so any cap on enrollments right now it due to just simple space issues and has nothing to do with UNT-Dallas. It is almost impossible to schedule classroom space right now because so many classrooms are already being utilized throughout the day with full enrollments, especially during the main portion of the day.

Based on what I've heard in the past about budgeting, a 2% growth each year would probably be the perfect scenario (keep growing and increasing tuition income, but at a sustainable pace as new buildings come online, etc.). That also would keep us on track with our "Closing the Gaps" state goals (putting us at about 40,000 by 2015).
