  1. For anyone who didn't see it in the paper a couple weeks ago, Premiere Cinema (the one building the 16 theater complex) has backed out.

    DRC article

Probably a good thing. That would've put 51 theaters within 10 miles of eachother...now there'll be 35 (Cinemark 14, Rave 16, GTM 5). I probably shouldn't even count the ones at the mall... tongue.gif

  2. hmm, just looking through the names of DVD's on the shelf...

American Beauty - Very good dark comedy.

Back to the Future trilogy - No explanation needed. biggrin.gif

Count of Monte Cristo - Not exactly true to the book, but still a very well made and entertaining movie.

Glory - My favorite movie of all time. (Civil War epic)

    Gladiator - I'm sure everyone's seen this...

Lock, Stock, and Two Smoking Barrels - Guy Ritchie's first major film; it's very much like, and about as good as, Snatch.

As far as in the theaters, A Day Without a Mexican is a pretty good movie, outside of the bad soap opera-ish scene, and a couple spots of preaching.

For movie soundtracks, I just listen to XM27 Cinemagic. biggrin.gif

  3. Frankly I'd be disappointed if we went .500 this next season. We were one game away from that this season with a team that nobody expected to do anything. Now that some of Johnny's recruits are going to start getting some heavy play time, I'd like to see a 20+ win season and possibly a Sun Belt championship.

I think the guys we have returning are capable of it, and I think it sounds like we nailed a couple of great players in the recruiting, so I'm putting my money on top 3 in the conference.

  4. I'm more concerned with making sure we have shooters than anything else, especially ones that can hit free throws. Shawnson got a lot of blocks for us this past year, but he was quickly neutralized on offense once the word got out, and his FT ability really hurt us when we needed the points.

That's not to say Shawnson wasn't valuable. His defense was awesome, and he wasn't the only one on the team to be missing FT's (seemingly everyone except for Leonard). He's definitely an incredible player, he just needs to arc his shots more and have teammates that can take advantage of the situation when he's being double teamed to give him some room to do his thing.

Anyway, that was a tangeant. laugh.gif Stanford didn't seem to have too much trouble this year by fielding a small team. I think that if we get a starting lineup of Isaac Hines, Leonard Hopkins, Calvin Watson, Chris White, and another good shooter...we have a very good shot at coming out #1 in the Belt.

Of course what will be missed are Shawnson and DeGrate's power dunks. ph34r.gif

  5. I really think that Turco can be a good goaltender in the playoffs, but he needs his defensemen and forwards to play something called defense which wasn't played a whole lot in this series.

I agree that more defense needs to be played, but he still needs to make the stops. The game before last, there were 9 shots on Turco in the 3rd period and the 2 OT's, and he let one in. There were 28 shots on the other end and Aebischer stopped them all.

From watching the games all season (I missed maybe 5), it was very easy to tell that Turco isn't playing anything like what he did last year. I dunno what his problem was this year, but he better fix it or else Dallas is going to be rid of two overpaid goalies, not just one, imo.

  6. I think the Stars came out flat in the series, but the Avalanche are also an extremely good team that could go all the way. Their puck handling is great, and the way they set up for goals is very organized and methodical. Finally, if it were almost any other team, the Stars' scoring wouldn't be so low, but Aebischer is a monster. I wouldn't be surprised to see him end up one of the greats.

Unfortunately I think Turco showed that he was a one season wonder. He missed so many easy stops this year that his GAA moved from ~1.8 to over 3. Granted the defense this year has been horrid, but you still have to make the stops. I wish we still had Eddie the Eagle. sad.gif

  7. The only 3 schools on Hwy 35

Southwest Texas is also on 35, and SMU's about 10 miles at most from it.

I'm really interested in trying out NBA Ballers since I know a guy that worked on it. The whole thing is going to be pretty interesting to see, I think. biggrin.gif

  8. Not sure which forum to put this on. This videogame tour is going to be coming through UNT (second stop on the tour) on Monday.

Here's a partial list of what they'll have:

    EA Games

    Sports Fight Night 2004

    MVP Baseball 2004

James Bond 007: Everything or Nothing

    Burnout 3

    Ubisoft

    Splinter Cell: Pandora Tomorrow

    Ghost Recon: Jungle Storm

    Rainbow Six 3

    Midway

    NBA Ballers

    The Suffering

    More info

Seems like kind of a mini-E3 for any of you gamers out there. Looking over the tour stops, I'm amazed at how many universities are missed in Texas (A&M, Tech, SMU, TCU, SWT, SFA, etc). UT, Baylor, and North Texas are the only Texas schools on the list.

  9. Which sites are you looking at?

The only site I've looked at, insiders, has Berry Jordan (3-star) a PF out of Kilgore as a possible Juco recruit.

Also a 3-star HS player, Tyrus Thomas, who's listed as having low interest but a scholarship has been offered. If we could snatch up a couple PF of these guy's caliber, along with Quincy Williams, Michael Sturns, and Calvin Watson, I like our tourney possibilities a couple years out. cool.gif
