  1. Its time to let these guys know we are pulling for them !!!

Ive been to all but 2 practices and I can tell all on the board ....from Coach Dodge all the way down to the guys doing the film work in the Hot Texas sun the MeanGreen have bust their butts this summer getting ready for Ball State and the rest of the season. They practice with heart and passion and I can see that these men want to win for them selfs and you and me.

I thank you for the work all summer during the break and during fall camp.

Go get em and GO MEAN GREEN!!!!!!!!!

  2. I agree .......If a young man wants to go where his heart and mind is leading him to serve....I wish him the best.

Can someone help answer is this ?

Since he is leaving on his own can we not give his "Scholy" to one of our dedicated Walk Ons ( Deheck or Baine) to help with the APR hit ?

  3. Riley is a very fast cant wait to see him go live against another team.

Nathan threw some really nice deep balls. He hit many WRs in full stride. Best out of all four QBs. I hope Coach Dodge lets either of the two do that more than last year.

94 on the D side is the next Darmcus Ware!!!!

  4. Harry many people from the big town of " LAKE DALLAS" agree with ya brother!!!!! Let Chase Baine get some reps and lets open up the competion at QB !!! Heck even the Longhorns are having a battle to see who is going to be the number 2 man this year.

I will be there there SEPT 12!!!!!!

  5. The 2nd team "O" is not that good .....not trying to hurt feelings here, but its not that good. D1 "O" 2nd team should always be just a play away to take over the starting position. We do not have that so far. Coach Dodge needs to shake it up a little bit and move some players up or down. Its Down and Dirty" time. Coach Dodge needs to kick up the competition between them all and quit making his mind up on players so early in their positions and let them fight it out.

  6. First I'm sunburned on the top of my head. IT was a nice day for football and I'm glad I went..... good crowd.

The O did not impress me much today. Ive been to several practices this spring and have seen much better.

Real disappointed in the QB rotation. I was really looking forward to seeing Chase Baine play today. He has really improved in practices and Coach Dodge even said it on the Radio broadcast today. I think the kid needs more 2nd team rotation to get in a rhythm to show what he can do. The group I was sitting with were really started to rumble about the rotation. Tune and Dodge had plenty of chances to show us their stuff. Both looked just Okay to me. Playing with a 3rd team extremely slow line doesn't give anyone a chance at QB. Enough about that rant!!!! Hell I'm From Lake Dallas so I'm pulling for the local kid to make it . George on the radio 2nd me today on that.

Why is 94 not on the field on every Defensive Play .......He is an ANIMAL !!!!!!

    See ya Sept 12th !!!!!!

  7. Baine is a nice athlete but quite honestly has not yet earned a scholly yet. This season should be the one that gets him a deal if he proves that he is a legitimate 3rd string QB but also makes stride as a WR and kick or punter returner. TD won't waste a scholly on a walk on until they have done something. NOTHING wrong with that philosophy.

    I disagree with that philosophy

Your use of the word "waste" is wrong to use... these type of players have to prove them selfs from day one and make it through a pretty tough "BOOT CAMP" just to beconsidered to be on the team. I see more than a few schollys on this team that would not make it though what a walkon has to do just to get that chance. Yes a walk on has to do something to get a chance at a scholly do not disagree there....but Coaches hardly give them a chance to show what they can do it looks bad if they are better than a Recruited player and I feel they are held back. "Fitz" got his chance finally and look what happened.

Regarding Baine I see more than "nice" athlete. He showed many of us on this board he could play WR last spring with two TD catches one that had Coach Dodge chasing him down with a pat on the butt.

Coach has to see something more than "Nice" to move him to QB this spring and run Dodge Ball.

I do not believe it would be a "WASTE" to hook him up.

  8. Ditto. Good info, saysojoe. Does anyone know if Chase Baine has been put on scholarship yet?

If he is not.... he should be with the "Scholys" left on the table from "THE ONES" who have left the program for the Big 12 or to work on their careers or have some legal problems or who have flunked out. Sorry to rant but I always pull for the "Walk On". There are a few on this team that deserve some LOVE from Coach DODGE.

    Later

  9. EDDRICK GILMORE !!!!!!! on the D side of practice fields he is the player to watch. His number #94 is the first player I look for. He is an animal !!!!

He looks and moves like Ware of the Cowboys. I still cant figure if he is 1st or 2nd team. My opinion he should never come of the field for anything. He hunts Riley down and man does he look scary in the process.

The oline works very hard in practice..... techniques are getting better and looks like a D1 line for the first time since Dodge arrived. They still get beat from time to time but if the O would change from a pass blocking scheme every play to some counters and cross blocks these guys would look allot better. They just need a little help with some better blocking schemes and all would be better up front.

    The QBs

Rylie.... is fast and makes good throws most of the time. He gets all the first team work.

Tune.... taller in the pocket but no speed and it hurts him on the outside. Throws well

Baine.... fast and throws as well as the top two Qbs I would love to see him get more reps with 2nd team.

Coach Dodge works with all three equally during skills and passing drills and Baine seems to improve daily because of that.

Receivers .....many new faces some seem faster ..Is the next Johnny out there I have not seen him yet

    H-town stay tuned

  10. Hey Guys I agree mean green sports does a not do a good job covering spring football. Why that is.... I don't know. The spring rosters are always late and allot of they players bios are never touched just left blank. Its a poor excuse for a D1 program.

With regards to practice I have been to them all except one. The practices at the AC center are fun to watch and you can see everything you want. I have no complaints about watching the practices there and I agree 100% that this should be closed to the public. We as fans have no business being inside the gates. You do not need to be inside.... you can see 360 degrees of football. I am lucky that my profession allows me to attend at 3:30. The guys work hard from start to finish and the whole coaching staff busts their @#@# the entire time they are on the field......not one minute is wasted.

I"m sorry I don't give daily reports ......thats just not me. But as far as VITO you "HATERS" should lay off......He has been to them all and stays a good 2 hours watching the MEAN GREEN and then waits to get a report from Coach Dodge or a player... he gets questions answered every time.

Johnny Q was there last week and had free run of the place .....It was good to see him talking to the coaches and players. He stayed the whole 3 hour practice.

IF you have any questions fire away and I will try my best to answer.

FirefightinRick .........no snaps under center yet. I along with many would love to see that with ya.....I hope Coach will change his mind.

  11. I along with just a few were at Fouts today. It was a very controlled scrimmage today. Rylie worked allot with first team. He showed his speed on the outside a few times but they had very quick whistles once the QBs were past the linebackers. Tune had a some good passes with the 2nd team and moved the ball well at times. Baine also showed his speed on a play but once again quick whistles . Pass and play of the day was the Baine 55 yards to Dickerson who made a good catch down the middle and fought off the D backs for the TD.

Defense looks very good against the run. They shut the backfield down many times.

    Special teams looks much improved.

  12. I see there is no mention of Chase Baine in the battle for the QB position in the spring Preview.

I still pick him as my "sleeper" to impress many of us on this board and the coaching staff ......that is if they will him give a chance to show what he can do. I'm assuming he will be starting 3rd on the depth chart this spring......with that said if Coach Dodge will give him a fair chance and I feel he will.... I'm still picking him to back up Rylie when the fall comes around.

Yes I'm from Lake Dallas and I'm pulling for the "Local Kid"

I will be there APRIL 4th

  13. I know I am just being picky, but it is Black Knights instead of Black Nights........ I am looking forward to them coming to Fouts. The only other time that we played them "here" was at Texas Stadium. When it is time for us to go up there, try as hard as you can to make the trip. It is one of the best ones we have ever made.

OOPS!!!! I Stupid BLACK KNIGHTS type to fast work

  14. Dual threat is what Coach Dodges "O" is all about. Riley or Baine is what this offense is set up for. When you have a QB that can do the Zone read and tuck it and run .....man does that open it for Cam when they have to spy the QB because he is a "THREAT to pull the ball and take off the opposite side of the tackle. Vizza in my "COACH from the BLEACHERS" opinion never really could pull the ball and take off and have any sucess....... they collapsed on him to quick.

Dodge 2007 your dislike for the Dodges is well noted on this board. We get It. The addition of the TE will help who ever is back there trying hard to a please you!!!!!!! But I have a feeling who ever it is you will never pleased.

    Clement from RICE........... True....Dual Threat

The great CHASE DANIEL True... Dual Threat

I have seen both Riley and Baine play in high school both have the same qualities of the above mentioned.

It should be fun for some of us to watch......... for you "doubters" hope you will give them a chance before you Judge !!!!

    I will Be There APRIL 4th !!!!

  15. The spring and fall should be fun to watch.

Yes I know many on here believe Riley is the man and I"m cool with that.

I just like the fact we will have some good competition going on at the postion....should be fun to keep up with. Competition between the 5 can only make them all better and ready to play some D1 ball.

My pick is Baine to rise and surprise many.

Who's your pick to give Riley some competition?

    APRIL 4th

    I will be there.

  16. Sad thing is I'm pretty sure this was his 3rd year in Juco, as he didn't even play this past season. He had to pass3, 3!!! classes and couldn't handle it. It's obviously for the better that he isn't here on campus at NT. Just means we have 1 more available ship for a deserving student athlete.

How about giving that ship to a "few" of our hard working WALK-ONS that are busting it everyday for a past few years.

These guys want to play "The Game" so bad they play for free hoping that mayby one day they will get a little help from the football program.

I can name a few on our roster that deserve it .......Cant YOU ?

  17. What is the skinny on Baine? This will be his RS Freshman year?

I followed Chase at Lake Dallas. LD coaches mentioned Chase was offered "Ships" to Navy, Air Force, and Buffalo to play QB. Chase was a two sport guy and played baseball and signed to play with Sam Houston State. Sounds like from other website......He missed football.

    http://www.untfootball.net/24baine.html

I cant wait for spring........I will will be there APRIL 4th!!!!!!

  18. Even if he's not, in this offense, it is imperative to have a capable backup. I don't think we saw as much running from the QB position last year as this offense really needs to be successful. Even from just 2007 our rushing attempts by the QB in 2008 went way down---with yardage gained getting cut by more than half:

    2007:

RUSHING GP Att Gain Loss Net Avg TD Long Avg/G

    Vizza, Giovanni 10 133 511 212 299 2.2 2 38 29.9

    Meager, Daniel 5 36 127 110 17 0.5 0 24 3.4

    2008:

RUSHING GP Att Gain Loss Net Avg TD Long Avg/G

    Vizza,Giovanni 12 95 342 226 116 1.2 2 38 9.7

    Tune,Nathan 6 12 34 9 25 2.1 0 8 4.2

    Phillips,Matt 9 1 2 0 2 2.0 0 2 0.2

    Meager,Daniel 2 3 4 4 0 0.0 0 4 0.0

Riley REALLY brings the threat of the run with him when he gets on the field. That's one of the biggest reasons why I think this offense will be better next year. Riley is a serious home run threat running the ball and I think that'll be something that the offense focuses on when he's on the field.

I agree this offense needs a Dual threat. Do I think Tune is a Dual Threat ...no because the lack of speed.

I'm hearing Chase Baine is stepping up to play and compete at the QB position for the spring. If this is true nothing against Tune but if the competition is an open one..... its going to be between Riley and Chase because they are both true Dual Threat QBs with lighting fast speed. They both run and throw very similar to the RICE QB and many of us saw how good he was. If one of these two can step up and perform like that type of QB we could be "In the HUNT" for allot of games .

  19. I believe the title of Walk-on is unjust for many D-1 players. Recruiting is not and exact science and at best is a guessing game. Many good players slip through the cracks because coaches can meet and look at so many kids during recruiting . I cant remember all the schools but one Walk on QB plays for South Carolina and Coach Spurrier and a few more where I have heard the phrase " THE FORMER WALK ON" from an ESPN announcer. I believe these guys get alot of reps being on the Scout teams and that helps them with the speed of the game and when ( If they ever get their chance) surprise coaches and players with their ability take make plays.

Are we a little Shaky in the QB position? Yes, but lets see what all these guys do in the spring before panic sets in and we go look for some JUCO QB that is left out there because if you look at the JUCO recruiting board all are gone with just a few maybes left

I WILL BE THERE APRIL 4 TH !!!!!!!!

    Go MEAN GREEN !!!!

  20. No hate here,

    Go Riley!!!!

    Go Nathan!!!!!

I Agree KingDL1 ...............Lets all move on from this. Its done and over its time to support who we have and who might be " THE MAN" to lead the MEAN GREEN.

I must add my "sleeper" pick CHASE BAINE to kick up the competition a notch when spring ball comes around.

Friend of mine talked to the Glen Rose kid this week and he is pumped to get here as fast as he can. " I hope Dodge red-shirts him for future the though."
