  1. Well, he made a touchdown saving tackle last year against Arkansas State....

I'm just saying, good high school athletes, especially quarterbacks, are often moved to the defensive side of the ball in college. I think Riley would be fine. You've got to have good feet, balance, and agility to play corner. I think he has those things. You have to read a quarterback well to play safety or corner. I think he'd excel at that.

It's just a shame to have him on the sideline except for gimmicky plays. He's better than that.

I agree with you. I feel that is where C Baine should be playing also. He was the QB at Lake Dallas and was a Duel Threat QB. He is bigger and faster than R Dodge but yet they choose to keep him as our emergency QB. We must win now. The staff must find away to get both of these guys on the field as often as they can. Put Baine in there as the wildcat and let him throw it to R Dodge ...now you have two threats on the field together.

  2. Tune, Thompson and Baine, with a splash of Dodge. That is a helluva drink!

I think we'll see Thompson get plenty of action this year to prepare him to lead in 2011 and 2012. I hope Baine sees the field too.

Congratulations to all of these men.

I dig what your saying about all 3 Qbs. Congrats Nate !! Sling that "PigSkin" !!!!

  3. Had to work and missed the action at fouts. Thanks to meangreensports for the live chat.

I picked out a few quotes from Steve Bartolotta that was not a surprize to me at all.

    Steven B:

Chase Baine busting out for a big-gainer on the QB keeper, goes for about 50-yards on the right side.

    Stephen Howard:

So, Chaise Baine looks to be the best running option at QB ... He just scorched the entire defense through a hole 20 yards downfield ... Wow

    Steven B:

i certainly will, like I said, baine is best option QB in the Sun Belt

My question is why cant they get this guy on the field somewhere....WR with Riley...special teams....the D needs the help bad.

Just seems a waste of talent to be the emergency QB...cant we let him do both.

I will be there this Sunday .....GMG

  4. Ive been to all but 2 pratices this spring and could see the RDodge thing comming. Yes he will help the WRs out...they need the help bad. The other 3 Qbs Tune, Thompson, Baine should all have a shot at it. They all three throw the ball very well and are making real good progress with Coach C. There is one big diff. among them and that is speed. Baine has RDodge speed and at sometimes seems faster when he pulls the ball on the zone read. I was even going to type on here last week that Baine should be move to WR or even saftey to take advantage of speed and size. Woke up this am and read the news with everyone else and believe this is the right move for Riley.....Pull up my post from last season... I was begging for this move all year long.

I would love to see Baine get reps with the first team sometime this spring....seems it always the 3rd team line and WRs. It sucks I haved work today. I would love to be at Fouts this afternoon.

    GMG

  5. My thinking exactly. Any "analysis" of Riley Dodge that fails to consider his running ability certainly doesn't tell the whole story.

Riley will be the stater because of his "Legs" the boy can flat out run when the zone read is there. I wish the tall drink of water "Tune" had the wheels to go along with arm and hieght. With that said, I believe Baine is a " little Tim Tebow in waiting. He looks the strongest out of the 4 QBS and was a true dual threat at LD. Its going to be a good spring now we have a new OC and all 4 should gets some fresh looks with 1st and 2nd team Olines. The young man from Glen Rose is going to surprise a few with his speed also.

I spoke with Todd Dodge for a couple of minutes today while parked on the side of the highway. Believe it or not, I am stranded on the way to the UNT-Middle Tennessee games in a pretty bad snow storm.

Now that I have parked it in a cheep hotel, here are some interesting notes on the hire.

First off, Dodge is turning over his offense, play-calling and his role as quarterbacks coach to Canales.

This will be the first time in the 24 years Dodge has been in coaching that he will not be either the primary play-caller or share that responsibility with Todd Ford, who left the staff to become a head high school coach.

Dodge is hoping that adding Canales to the staff will enable UNT to cut down on the number of turnovers it commits, improve its deep passing game and involve the tight end more in the passing game.

The competition for the quarterback job will be open in spring practice, which will give Nathan Tune and Derek Thompson a shot to compete with Riley Dodge.

Canales worked with a couple of shorter quarterbacks similar to Riley Dodge at South Florida.

Thanks for asking the questions we all want to know Brett! This is what we've all been asking for...I hope we can be happy now and hope for the best!!!

The true sports writer "vito" still refuses to show some love for the local boys....I believe the now healthy Chase Baine will heat things up in the spring....quicker than both of the above mentioned. Great Hire Coach Dodge !!!

  7. Chase Baine didn't make the trip, they said on the radio. Anyone have any information as to why?

I'm not upset about Derek Thompson's shirt being burned - Todd Dodge got to see what it looks like to have his offense directed by a quarterback who can see over his offensive linemen! Maybe he learned something from it. I doubt it...but, maybe.

CHase Baine has been out the past 3 weeks.. Due to a somewhat serious medical condition privacy laws prevent what it is...but I was told North Texas Doctors were holding him out so he could recover and get ready for spring ball and not take a risk on his condtion.

I still think the WILDCAT was the answer instead of burnning the redshirt freshman .

  8. once again..the great healing powers of Riley Dodge... he showed up just 36 hours from an injury that once again took him out of a big game..... and took snaps with the first team last night .....man can he get better every sunday !!!! Hang in there Tune !!! Great Game>>> way to sling that ball down the field. Kinda scared me alittle when TUNE came off the field shaking his hand in pain from a hit he took..but he is a gamer and played on. I was ready to watch Chaser Baine finally get a chance for some playing time but didnt happen. Mayby Coach Dodge should have played Baine in the Bama game for a little live action, after all it was a paycheck game. Just bringing it up since Texas Tech is on the fourth QB.

Is a 60% Riley Dodge better than 100 % Tune or Baine.....I dont think so

  10. Dude get over yourself. This is the same ASU team that got blown out by Nebraska so where was your chirping then? It was a good effort today for sure, but if you thought Iowa was really the #13 team in the nation or looked like they were the least bit interested you are crazy....but then again that's starting to look more like the case anyway.

Good point about the Nebraska game ....but I just got home from The Ohio game and was drying out and crying in my beer. 38-9 against the Nebraska first team ant to bad bro. They played until late into the 4th. We played Bamas second team and still had a 10 play game plan that kept our "D" on field way to long. That carried over last week and thank the football gods we snapped out of it the 2nd half.

About me being crazy...... I'm crazy enough to make to all but 2 fall practices this year....so I know what these players can do. The "D" is the real deal they just need some help from the "O" and this team can win out. We have the talent.... its all over the place this year .....is all of it in the right spots? in my opinion no. Is our play calling at its best..... not even close. So yea I'm crazy to want this Head coach to step it up for his players and lead them every game not just the ones that we might be able as he would put it " TO STAY IN THE HUNT" .

Yea I'm crazy....crazy for NORTH TEXAS FOOTBALL !!!!

  11. I wonder if the 95% of The Arkansas State fans are mad at the coaching staff for having a game plan and actually going in to and undefeated Iowa stadium and trying to win for their school. I wonder if those 95 % are mad at the coaching staff for not just showing up and getting their paycheck because after all its just a "BODYBAG GAME". I wonder if those 95% are mad at the coaching staff because the The REAL SEASON starts with the SUNBELT. I wonder if those 95% are made at the coaching staff because they played to win and played with pride and now they have all the confidence to play anybody in the Sunbelt and know down deep they can win every game. I wonder !!!!!!!!

Thank You Red Wolves for going for it !!!!!!!

  13. Yes, he did make up for the pick 6. But we wouldn't be in that situation IF HE DIDN'T THROW THE PICK 6 IN THE FIRST PLACE!!!!!!!

Baine?!?! You're suggesting we bring in Baine now too?!? Tune doesn't fit this style of offense, he can not run at all. Dodge gives you another weapon in the backfield.

The fact we're having this talk is absurd.

Alright H-town.....I'll check back in with ya on this topic after the "La La" game. Pretty sure it wont change my mind.....but I'll be the first to admit I'm wrong if things change.

Mississippi States "Tyson Lee" a formal walkon QB for the Bulldogs almost upset LSU.......... so yes I'm suggesting Baine too !!!!!

  14. Seriously?!!?!!? Yes lets, take out the highest rated recruit who is a RS Freshman and starting his 3rd game. And put in a guy who had 0 scholarship offers. If you want to talk about "gamechanging" turnovers. How about Tunes int that gave away the Ohio game.

H-town.. Tune made up for the pick6 and put the ball into a WRs hands twice for the win but the ball was dropped. If our highest rated recruit were on the other the end of those passes The GAME is over and we are 2-0. Im not throwing in the white flag and never will......Riley looked like a wounded soldier last night ....they had to tape up his chin .....tape up his arm.....wrap his ankle and this is only the third game. Your 0 "scholly" thing doent fly with me. Many walkons can play if the coach ever gives them the chance. Tune is not running QB ....if he throwing the ball to Rylie and he gets some YAKS he stays healthy for 4 more years and makes big Jonny Quinn type plays for us. If Tune cant run....Lets give Baine a chance to carry the ball....pretty sure he was the one that played Dasher on the scout team this week.... thats got say something about his speed.

  15. Its time to put Riley at slot and be our "Shippley" for all the good things he does he takes a step backwards with the turnovers. Yes I know he is a redshirt but there is no way this young man makes it the next 4 years leading the Mean Green "O". The turnovers have been huge in the RedZone and have been gamechangers. Hes a tough kid but being tough can go so far. If the "O" keeps playing like this and keeps our "D" on the turff ....mayby one more win this year. Lets give Tune and Baine a shot with Riley on the field at the same time and see were that takes us.

Fire away at me folks.......I was there yesturday....and knew the lack luster game plane against Bama would carry over and boy did it the first half.

Muts put on a show on how to run the spread the right way....the quick no huddle.... never looking to the sideline for the play call is how its done. Our D were not even ready half the time the ball was snapped .

  16. ............he deserves a thought out, well planned game plan that will let him showcase his talents to all the fans.

It was obvious that the Athletic Department and the Coaching staff conceded this game before they even boarded the buses in Denton for the airport. We just stole 900,000 dollars from Alabama. Dickey has to feel vindicated! So much for X's and O's and playing to win!

Everyone who made the trip to Alabama deserves to be reimbersed for their expenses from the athletic department.

But hey, winning the Sun Belt is a fabulous goal and it's rewards are incredible. Just ask Dickey.

I could not of said it better myself!!!! I'm not a "hater" just call like I see em.

  17. the writers from Bleacherreports.com said they expected Baine to play since he is a bigger clone or Rylie Dodge. I dont get our head coach sometimes and try to support the man every Saturday and I'm there every home game and have been the past 10 years. But game plans like that just piss me off.

I will be there next Saturday supporting the players with alittle bitter feelings for Coach Dodge.

  18. I feel sorry for Tune.....Coach dodge game plan was very unfair to him. They never let him get in a groove and the play calling was lack luster. I don't think it would have been the same if "little dodge" was in the game. I dont care if they are the number 4 team........ our "O" is better that that. It wasnt tunes or the running backs fought it was the play calling. Whats up with letting all the 2nd team play except for Baine. If they werent going to let tune pull the ball and run they could at least put him in to see what he could do.
