  1. My wife is the manager of the Mariott Courtyard in Shreveport. (this is the one at the Pines Road exit NOT on the Boardwalk) She has put together a special rate for those of you that might like to drive to Shreveport on Friday, do some gambling and then drive to Lafayette on Saturday. It is about a three and a half hour drive.

She is offering a rate of $89 per night. Please ask for the "UNT Rate" when you call to make your reservation. The phone number is (318)686-0880.

If as many as 10 rooms are reserved, I will make sure to have some cold beer in the meeting room to share with you. I'm buying what I want but what the hell, it will be free.

I look forward to meeting you all.

    GO MEAN GREEN!!

  2. During the Bill Blakely years, we used to bring the Mean Green out onto the floor by cheering "Bring On The Mean Green". Almost all in the Super Pit would get into it and have fun with it. I have no idea why it quit when Blakely left.

I dont see why this would not work as a pregame cheer and to cheer the team out after halftime.

I know this is not quite what you are talking about but I am also an old fart and live in the past. Forgive me.

  3. My wife is the manager of a new major hotel in Denton. The young man she hired to tend bar was not only a student but an officer in one of the larger fraternities on campus. He would brag to his customers that he would tail gate at the games but he was a UT fan. I have even heard him tell to a potential recruit who was in town for the kicking school that he shouldnt even waste his time considering UNT. Fortunately, there are fewer and fewer of that type student on campus anymore and clothing is gradually becoming easier to find.

For the good news, I was in Lids at Northeast Mall and found four UNT hats. I bought a new green one that has the eagle embroidered on the bill and back of the hat with block UNT on the front. After making the purchase the young man said,"thank you and GO MEAN GREEN!"

To clarify, the potential recruit and his mom were sitting in the restaurant and the FORMER barkeeper's job was to take their food to them.

  5. I am glad to see that we have discovered yet another hot bed for talent. It appears we are talking with 4 or 5 players from this school. Prior to this we have looked at primarily Kansas and Mississippi JCs.

I am also glad to see us going after high profile players. The "pretty girl" will never go out with you if you don't ask her.

Keep up the godd work Mean Green!

  6. There seems to be much talk about the fragility of Riley Dodge and that Nathan Tune is more durable. How so? If memory serves me right, Tune was injured to end the season and sitting on the bench when Thompson came into the game.

Yes, more weight and muscle will help all the players be more durable but saying Tune should start because he is more durable has not been proven to me. This is D-1 ball and quarterbacks get hurt. at
