  1. I know the music was lame. I don't think anyone in the Green Brigade likes this music selection on the field. Everyone wants to ditch this show so bad, but unfortunately our directors won't let the damn show die. All of us wanted to march our latin show again. Sorry you guys had to suffer through the music. Bytheway, keep emailing me your music selections!! I have gotten some really awesome suggestions and thanks to all who have already submitted your ideas. PLEASE DON'T LET US PLAY CRAP MUSIC AGAIN NEXT YEAR LIKE WE DID ON SATURDAY!!!!!!! (The song is pretty, don't get me wrong. It just is not meant for marching bands) Apologies again for such a bad music selection!
  2. The words are on the athletic homepage!! Don't know where to get the music part though!
  3. There will be people in the stands. Or am I giving the people on this board too much credit for going to games despite the fact the team may not be doing so well? And my point was not whether there were people in the stands, it dealt with us taking our jackets and people having problems with that. But you are right. If the team doesn't win, there won't be a lot of people in the stands. The band and people on this board can only do so much to get butts in seats. The team has to do the rest. Keep believing the Mean Green and the Green Brigade. Beat 'Zona!!!!!
  4. I don't think it is fair or right to have people say that the band should never take off our jackets because it does not look uniformed. Until you have worn a band uniform in TEXAS, then you do not have the right or knowledge to tell the band to not take off the uniform jacket. I do respect people's opinions, but alot of people have never been in band and never worn the uniforms. Until you do, you can't say that just because some of the band people are not in the best shape, that the band doesn't need to take off the jackets. This thread is becoming ridiculous. Attacking the band for trying to take care of their health is crazy!! And I am not trying to attack anyone or anyone's opinion, but I think that we have bigger fish to fry than whether or not the band is in their jackets. (i.e. we have Cody and Scott's injuries, the FOOTBALL team, etc) We come to the games, we are loud, and we kick butt at halftime. And these are the important things to remember about the band. Cause in 10 years you won't remember if we took our jackets off, you'll just remember how good the band sounded!!! On those words, Go Mean Green!! Tame the Wildcats!!
  5. Thanks Reb for your comments!!! Marching is a skill that is hard to learn!! Try playing music and marching and keeping in step with 240 other people. Not easy. Both athletics and marching band teaches you the value of team work!!! (Not that these are the only two ways of learning team work) GO MEAN GREEN!!
  6. We do get water and Powerade after pregame (if we are at home) and after halftime. But sometimes that is not enough. If the majority of the people are too hot in the uniforms, then we all take off the jackets to look more uniformed in the stands. Sure the thinner the person, the more heat they are likely to withstand. But like most everything else, the majority wins out. I noticed earlier someone mentioned that the football players are conditioned and in shape. While I agree this is true, don't think that they don't get hot. But they have those powerful fan cooler things. The band does not. I agree there are some in the band (myself included) are not in the most athletic shape, but you can't solely blame us getting hot to that. I hope this answers your questions.
  7. I think the Music Department does foot the bill when we get uniforms. But the uniforms are very expensive and are not bought very often. The uniforms are in a heavy material because they generally last longer and can take the beating the uniforms usually go through each year. The College of Music's budget is not massive. And this makes the Green Brigade's budget just that much smaller. But we work with what we have. The uniforms are about 500 dollars PER uniform and when you are buying about 350 uniforms, it turns out to be a very expensive venture. I am not trying to complain about the size of our budget. It is more than sufficient in years we don't have to buy uniforms. But when you add in the purchase of the uniforms, it becomes a whole new ball game!! I think that our current uniforms will be around for a little while longer because these uniforms came to us in the Fall of 1995. I hope this answers your questions NTSkull. Let me know if it didn't. GMG!
  8. Thanks for your comments Silver Eagle. I hope that we fly those green flags a lot more. And I kinda feel sorry for the TCU band. We got more applause at halftime than they did. But we were really focused at halftime and we landed a really solid show. But as always, thanks for supporting the Green Brigade!!
  9. As a side note, did any one see the color of flags we used yesterday?
  10. I have not idea why we can't do that. I will suggest that to the band director and maybe we can get that started for next year. But do understand, as of right now, why we do take the jackets off. But I will suggest it to the band director about getting some khaki or denim shorts and a green top.
  11. As I said, we take them off for our health. If you noticed, TCU took their uniforms off too. I understand the point of wanting to look good, but at what at cost should we look good? For the Idaho game, we will be in full uniform because it will be November and a lot cooler. Once fall and winter hit our uniforms will be staying on.
  12. I dare anyone to wear a WOOLEN uniform the ENTIRE game. It got hot especially at the first part of the game when we were in the direct line of the sun. I think that the band's health is a little more important than "looking good" on national tv. And what bandgeek said was right. We had to call EMS AGAIN this week for a heat problem and we weren't even in our uniforms!! That is #5 for calling EMS this season and we are only a month into it. I don't want this post to be negative, but wearing our uniforms while it is warm to hot is not easy. You guys had the comfort of shorts and t shirts. Why else do we have beverages after pregame and halftime? When the weather gets cooler, you can guarntee that the band will have our uniforms on the entire game, but asking us to wear our uniforms while still at least this warm is silly. I will leave it at this-Would you rather see us in full uniform carrying someone off to the hospital or without our jackets playing in full strength? I am sorry if this came off kinda negative!
  13. What do you mean the band needs to get rid of capes and feathers? We don't have capes and the plume on our hat actually makes the hat look better. The hat looks stupid if we don't have the plume. All I can do as far as the flag color is concerned is to talk with the directors of the band and color guard. I will talk with them. I will keep you updated.
  14. That is why I am asking for your opinions. I think he will take the music selections more seriously if I tell him rather than several people telling him. Since he was my band director in 9th and 10th grade as well as here, he knows me pretty well. I am wanting to march something other than latin jazz. Latin jazz is fine and well, but I marched Latin Jazz both my freshman AND sophomore years of high school under his direction. For me it is getting old. And yes, I honestly do take an interest in your opinions. So let those selections come!!
  15. Putting the rest of this marching season aside (the music has already been selected), I urge all of you on this board to email me with your opinions and requests for music next year. I will recommend them to Mr. Velez. I might even schedule an appointment after this season is over and talk with him about the music selections. The music much more interesting to listen to than playin them. And I will also mention to him that we need to use green flags at all times. Even if we have half of the corp use green and the other half use white. Whatever it takes to use only green and white flags. So email me (debs200@hotmail.com) or post your music selections on here and I will talk these over with Mr. Velez for next year so we can hopefully get these selections on the program. Sorry it can't be any sooner than next season, but it appears that the music for this year has been set. GMG!!!!
  16. Let's just drop this thing PLEASE!!! Complaining on this board will NOT change the color of flags the corp uses. I am tired of us bickering about this.
  17. Silver Eagle, thank you for your compliment that you gave me as one of the best fans from the school of music. I certainly try to build spirit wherever I go and especially in the band since we are a very visible part of the game day activities. I will talk to the color guard member in which I spoke to last night later today and I will ask if they can use the green flags at TCU. From what I gather on the green flags, they seem to be really ugly, so if FireFighting Rick and the other alumni still want to buy new green flags, go for it!!! GMG!!
  18. I spoke with a flg corp member and she said that they already have some green flags, but not to expect them to use them for everything. Go figure! I have no idea what that means!!!!!
