  1. The place was pretty full but there were other teams from the tourney watching as well. Not as many North Texas Fans as we had hoped. Because it is the conference tourney we don't get all of the "home court" advantages that we've had all year so any fan that we can get to keep the place loud helps. We've had some great support this year and this is a very important game. We've a little worried about the 5 p.m. time but it was how the brackets fell. Please come out and be loud if you have the time!
  2. No - ASU plays at the Convocation Center (the same place they play basketball) due to scheduling conflicts with an arts and crafts show they were forced to play their last week of play at the high school......
  3. I know the team is very excited about the recruits for the '07 year. Youman is a little undersized but is a great athlete as well as a lefty. There is actually talk of a possible red-shirt for her next year because positionally she is behind Brooke Engel right now who is LEADING the NATION in serving aces. Amy Huddleston comes off of the 2005 State Champion 4A team of New Braunfels and was the State Tourney MVP. Again a little smaller @ 5'11 but very athletic much like Youman. Huddleston will be able to play at just about any position and has some great arm speed. Recruiting has not been down for this program at all. A year and a half ago we started 5 freshman on the court and now those freshman are juniors - Plain and simple - experience and maturity. Rachel Raley is now a sophomore who is from San Antonio and will step into the offensive spot light next year as the team loses Tara Hooser. The team feels we have recruited some great talent and most importantly athletes that want to be apart of the building of this program and the university. Many athletes still do not want to know about this program because of where it was during the Big West. The coaching staff is doing it's best to break down those walls. There comes a time as a coach when you know that athletes are not interested and you have to move on to those that are. That doesn't mean we aren't trying to get the top players Those of you that may be interested please come out to the new Mean Green Village tonight at 7 p.m. This team is playing for it's first divisional championship and could use your support. It is always senior night and the program will be recognizing Tara Hooser and Brittney Gregory.
  4. I know you all don't follow volleyball very much and there hasn't been a lot in the media about this team but we have lost our only Senior to an ACL tear for the season and also didn't have our ONLY upperclass MB available due to an AB strain this past weekend. Belmont is a very good TEAM that only plays one upperclassman. We at times had 3 freshman on the court at once this past weekend. Belmont was 20-7 last year including a trip to the NCAA's. They pushed Memphis to 5 and pushed ARKANSAS more than anyone at the tounament. Our volleyball team has 11 freshman and sophomores on the roster - they some things to learn before turning the corner. Give them time and lets see how they do in conference play!
  5. Grandgreen, You didn't read the article very closely. It was stated that we normally host our Mean Green Classic during pre-season but the pre-season is one full weekend shorter than normal due to the way the calendar year fell. TCU and SMU always play us during conference play due to the fact that their conference play starts a week before the Sunbelt does. We are hoping to bring back the Mean Green Classic next season and that will allow for additional home games early in the year. Luckily we have been a pretty good road team in the past and if you haven't seen us play in the past couple of years I encourage you to drop by a match this year. We are coming off a 22-14 record and a 2nd place finish divisionally. We did lose 4 starters off of last years squad but the talent we have coming in is the best in the programs history. Hope you'll find the time to support us this fall!
  6. Thanks Fletch for the support and any support that can be given over the next couple of weeks. I've been on this board before and spoke of this team. I know that we don't have a lot of volleyball guru's on this board but I am telling you that you have the chance to see some of the best volleyball players that have played here at UNT in their final games of their career. Marginas recently broke the 2,000 kill mark, something that NO other player here at UNT has done and is looking to take over the 2nd place mark in Sun Belt history. Sheppard broke the career assist record last Friday at FIU and what is so amazing about this is the fact that she did it is 3 years. Arkansas State comes to town with a 6-1 Sun Belt mark (the same as ours) but they are sitting atop the East Division. This game is huge for the girls and any support would be appreciated greatly by the players. We've had some great crowds of around 500 but the Snake Pit would be a very hard place for the Indians to win if we could double that number! GO MEAN GREEN!
  7. Hello everyone. I've been visiting this board for some time now and occassionally participate in some conversations from time to time. I wanted to let everyone know about an award that was handed out to a volleyball player (I am the head volleyball coach here on campus) last night at the Sun Belt Awards in Destin, FL. I posted something earlier this year about the upcoming season and just like any other coach here at UNT, want my athletes to be recognized for some great accomplishments. This kid is really a great player and I hope that some of you will be able to check her out during her last season here at North Texas. If you haven't been to a college game, you are truly missing out! Please check out this article on the UNT website about Corina and her award: http://www.edu/mgathletics/
  8. I don't know how many of you have seen the volleyball team play here at UNT, but I wanted to let you all know that this upcoming season should be a great one for this program. For the past three years we have been reguilding this program and have some of the top athletes within the Sun Belt Conference on this team. Next year the roster will include 5 seniors and 10 returning players off of a team that went 10-5 in conference play last year and nabbed the #3 seed overall going into the Conference Tournament. If you haven't seen this team play or haven't seen college volleyball I invite you out to a match sometime next fall. The game is extrememly fast paced and fun. If you don't follow the team there are a couple of athletes that may be of great interest to you. Corina Marginas is a 6'1 outside attacker from Romania. She broke the CAREER record for kills here at UNT her sophomore year and should be the Sun Belt pre-season player of the year next season as a senior. She received all-american nominations as a junior and she really is something to see. We have two transfers on the team- our setter from Baylor (is an all-conference player) and another 6'0 OH from West Virginia. Again, check us out when you don't have a football game to attend. We don't charge admission and hopefully find yourself hooked!
