  1. "In order for the University of North Texas to have a better Athletic program, which in turn can lead to national exposure and increased recognition of UNT; I agree to a dedicated Athletic Fee not to exceed $10 per semester credit hour, capped at 15 hours. Once the Athletic Fee is implemented, the Student Service Fee will be reduced by $3 per semester credit hour. The Athletic Fee shall not be implemented until the semester the new football stadium is complete, which is expected to be fall 2011."

    Fixed.

  2. That would be nice.

I watched the play-by-play this morning (well, it was morning in AZ) on ESPN.com. Field position was the kicker (pun intended) here. Looks like we're not the only SBC school that needs some special teams work.

I think the game really showcased the power of the special teams game. I think punting single handedly kept the Trojans at bay in the second half. They got backed up to their own endzone twice, right in front of the band and student section. NT has a pretty good punter, but the overall play on ST is atrocious, even with Jeremy Knott in there this year.

  3. Troy's 2-1 with one win over MTSU. They ran all over the OSU defense for 30 minutes and made mistakes that anyone else would in that environment. I know Troy is always praised in the SBC year after year but I think they're still legit even without Omar at QB anymore.

FAU's still my pick, even after the OOC losses because the teams they played are getting better themselves.

  4. Good game. Troy came to play today and absolutely could have won if they had gotten off to a better start. After the half, the crowd got really into it and with Troy starting inside their own 5 twice, the 102,400-person crowd got to them and they had to punt. The noise forced a lot of mistakes and caused 2 time outs and a couple delay of game penalties. Props to Troy, they gave it what they could.

  5. I know this is an NT board and I am an NT fan, but since they are in our conference, I feel it is relevant to ask this question: does anyone here put Ohio State on upset alert? Just curious...

I promise everyone, this is my last post before bed. :P Got tailgating to do in the morning.

Just bought a Pryor jersey today, so they'd better not lose. I've already 'retired' the shirt I wore during the UF, LSU, and USC games. Bad mojo. Anyways, no upset alert here, the boys will be out for blood this week.

  6. Meh. We were feeling pretty smug with 20 returning starters on both sides of the ball and plenty of depth. Everyone else here would, too. Nobody can really put a finger on it at all but I'd chalk it up to 2 consecutive NC losses. To the returning players, I imagine anything other than a NC victory would be a failure. This is what overwhelming media attention will do to a program. Stepping back from the limelight may be for the best right now.

So, yes, tOSU was overrated and rightly so. We just didn't think so. ;)

  7. Until last night? I think every writer I saw pretty much predicted the whuppin' USC would lay on Ohio State.

And it's difficult to say how overrated anyone is based on how they fared against USC this year. I think OSU's performance against Ohio was reason enough to yank them out of the top 10, but I don't know if any team will be able to hang with USC.

EVERY writer. And yet, we chose to look through the Scarlet-colored glasses. "NOBODY will hang 35 points on this team."

20 starters returning tells me it's not the talent on the field. Attitudes and coaching have been a curse in big games the last three seasons. Media hype is a huge factor, too. Unfortunately, the game is what it is. I'll be in Columbus next week watching Troy get annihilated from sheer anger.

  8. Seriously? These national sports guys have absolutely though OSU and the Big 10 walk on water until last night.

You're kidding, right? The commentators (Herbie included) were verbally fellating Mark Sanchez and Steve Sarkhesian throughout the entire game and praising Pete Carroll's coaching genius.

Watch ESPN's College Football Live, or hell, even Sportscenter and tell me how many times you hear "SEC Speed" in context with the Big Ten or Ohio State.

This reminds me of that list someone posted, "10 reasons you know college football is back"...one of them was "ESPN HATES your team", lol.

  9. Try watching ANY national media as an Ohio State fan, then come complain to me when Vito of the Denton Record-Chronicle writes a "negative" article about a 0-3 football team.

It's absolutely painful and most of the crap I have to listen to is undeserved but it's there nonetheless. Last night's pounding at USC won't help that at all. I'm sure "negative" articles have been published all around the country about my Buckeyes today. But we lost. Big time. Newspapers will report on that and there's nothing you can do.

  10. Um..yeah, I mentioned the provider thing in the first post. But good to get insight from a user...what's it look like with multiple games?

When it first comes up as a popup window, you're presented with four or five small screens on the bottom you can select from with different games. Then there's the main screen on the middle left with a programming schedule next to it. You can adjust the size to make it fullscreen or change aspect ratios, etc. Some are in HD, but most aren't.

  11. Can we accomplish the same theory (no body bag but a viable chance of winning) but not do a FSC team?

    Army

    Utep

Houston (may not be winnable now but in the future this game needs to happen)

New Mexico State or New Mexico

    Tulane

    Memphis

    Wyoming

this is where I add East Carolina but not this year, this is the powerhouse team of 08

    temple

    Minnesota

    Fixed it for ya.

I'd also throw Air Force and about half the MAC. An ideal OOC schedule would be like this:

    SFA

    @ Army

    SMU

@ Minnesota (inside joke of the Big Ten)

  12. Don't forget...there is no such thing as I-AA anymore. As to scheduling division II teams, we do not need to dip that low. A strong FCS team who bring fans might be OK.

I'm not advocating loading up on weak opponents, merely giving the fans a show at the home opener like a lot of other D-1a schools do. A strong, REGIONAL I-AA (FCS) team would be great. A lot of students have friends at Texas State, SFA, etc. and may show up.

  13. Not sure why we have to prove anything. We have to win ballgames, period.

NT needs wins. Playing "lower class" teams, you always run a risk of losing. To those guys, any game against a I-A team is a big deal. Ohio U. went into Columbus yesterday and almost caught my beloved Buckeyes asleep at the wheel before THEIR big game. You ALWAYS risk losing, no matter who you play. Oregon absolutely manhandled the Pac-10 last year until Dennis Dixon got hurt in the 1st half against Arizona. They lost the game and slid down the polls in the following weeks.

I think for UNT there's more than enough reason to justify scheduling a I-AA team for the home opener. The students go to Fouts expecting to lose and most disappear by halftime. Beating ANYONE would boost attendance in the 2nd half AND the 2nd home game of the season.

  14. With NT's record the past three seasons, I felt like throwing this out there. Is it time to bring in Texas State, SFA or another regional I-AA (FCS) team for a game at Fouts? I know there's a few of you out there who are going to thing this is far below NT, despite going 3-9, 2-10, and now about to go 0-3. Face it, folks. The Mean Green needs a victory over somebody and it's not going to come from playing a money game (as much as we would like it to happen) against a BCS team. Just to see what hte general consensus is, should RV call his counterpart at a I-AA school so NT can have a win in September for once?

  15. Just goes to show, ANYONE can let their guard down and get caught looking ahead. This one had me sweating it out until midway through the 3rd Q when Tressel finally took control of his team. OU went in there with a plan, tOSU didn't. Buckeyes got caught with their pants down a little bit and you can bet they learned their lesson and apply it in LA next Saturday. Go Bucks and GMG!

WOW, this would be an upset for sure, and couldn't come to a better school.

Aww, why you chuggin' the Hateorade?

  16. You could get really creative with the prizes: Like lunch with all the cheerleaders, a chance to play H-O-R-S-E against Johnny Jones, or a sideline pass for a football game... fun stuff like that. T-shirts and free food is boring.

Sideline passes would be awesome, barring approval by the HC himself. The view there would be arguably better than a lot of the seats in Fouts. :ermm:
