  1. I honestly believe we see the re-emergence of Jamario Thomas tomorrow night. This is a nationally televised game and a conference game. Coach Dickey takes those games even more serious than the others. I dont know that he would pull PC from the starting lineup, but you can bet J-Mo will get some more carries. The wild card in this whole deal is still the offensive line. Troy blitzes almost as much as Tulsa. The OL better get it's act together quickly. They have to start jelling eventually? Who knows, this week could start another run to the title. OR... we could lose by 30 and start another run to the Beer Barn.

Either way, I'm not putting too much stock in this season. It's a young team and growing pains are a part of it. I honestly want to see what Coach Dickey does with this talent next season. Just play the Troy game to win and let the chips fall where they may. In the mean time,

I'll have beer and Rum in the cooler; here's hoping Flannigan has his cooler stocked too...

  2. We're there. Tues night is a tough one, but the faithful will attend. I took half a day off of work to Keep my home-game schedule. So far I have beem right on the money:

    1:00: tailgating

    2:00: throwing the pigskin

    3:00: Eating

    4:00: Rum and coke.

    5:00: Rum and anything

6:00: Kickoff (most of us are in the stands by then)

Halftime: Beer (Pierow's truck-talking about the adjustments we need to make)

5 Minutes after second half kickoff: No adjustments made.

    9:00: more Rum

10:00: read posts on replacing DD with Bobby Bowden or Bill Parcells.

Yes, we're a strange bunch..but we are a devoted bunch!!!

I LOVE NORTH TEXAS FOOTBALL SEASON!!!

  3. Travis Thompson is NO QUITTER. Anyone who spent even one day at practice saw the kid give up his body and go full speed 100% of the time. He was a team guy, and should have been a nice player for us this season if the defense were different? He just happens to play a LB spot where everyone and their dog is already slotted. The guy is an animal out there, but so are the three guys who play that spot ahead of him. (Monroe, Mendoza, and Holman plays all three spots). We have lots of talent in the LB ranks, which is why I had expected DD to go with the 3-4 defense? Well, we didnt. This defense needs leaders to emerge and a LB corps to play together. Dickey is trying to get them there. Travis Thompson was a true competitor, but how do you get him time on the field? He wasnt as strong against the run as Mendoza, and was not as fast as Monroe in coverage? (These are just observations from the practices I attended) I talked to Travis a couple of times and he was always a great guy. (the mini-mohawk was greatness) Everyone who watched him out there wanted him to play. If TJ Raymond had been eligible, we could have gone to the 3-4 and Thompson gets time. Without TJ on the DL, we really have to be a 4-3 team. Sucks how things like that affect other aspects of your game planning and prep.

I wish the best for TT, but we have players in there now strating to play together, and they are improving. Looks like we go with what we have. I wish Travis was getting time, but we back whoever DD puts out there. Good luck Travis, with whatever you decide is best...

  4. As far as I can tell, we have only lost one game this year that we should have won, the Tulsa game.  Was it an ass whooping?  Absolutely.  But it snowballed on us and things get out of hand when they go that way.  Folks, we are 1-2 right now and could be back to .500 in 1 week.  We have started off much worse in my opinion.  I am chalking this year up to a growing year either way - we need to get better this year, not worry about winning a 5th consecutive Sun Belt championship.  If we rebuild properly this year then we will be ready for SMU next year.  That is my focus right now.

THANK YOU!!!!...That is it in a nutshell. No need for any more bickering about any of this. Young teams need time... I'm all for doing the best we can this year, and let DD work his magic on them for next season. Not giving up....wising up. Wins or losses wont determine my views of this team this year. Way too much inexperience out there. But also a lot of talent.

Play their best...win what they can. Either way, they've earned our faith. As for the season good or bad, I'll be there to see it. Cant be worse than what we've seen already? No way to go but up.

  5. As much as we like the MTSU fans, and we really do, there is no need for a Blue-Raider wake-up call? We are out of it. If there is one thing this team can count on, it's the ability of the true fans and alums to bounce back. We are still behind Dickey and this team. This "venting" thing happens every year when we lose the OOC games. Dickey is a winner, and minus a few posts, most on this board know the caliber of the head coach on this team and are damn glad he is here.

I've said it before and I'll say it again. EVERYONE has a down year or two. I just figure this is one of those and wll accept that. IF we win our conference games...great. If not, we have to build this team with our young players. I can live with the hope for next season. Doesnt mean I dont want to win now, just means I'm patient with what this coaching staff is doing. Give Meager and Phillips some time to learn the ropes. Both Quinn and J-Mo will be here next season. We only get better from here on. We still have Cobbs for this year, and he is looking very good so far.

Bring on TROY and let's see what we do against a conference opponent.

    GMG!!!

  6. I'm there plus one. It's never a bad thing to show our players we are still there for them. If we win, we win. If we lose, "Hey Pierow, you got a Bud Lite?"

Oh, my son's current bedtime prayer:

"Now I lay me down to sleep, and hope my Eagles can throw deep. Our quarterback has some trouble throwing...our next win may come when it's snowing. J-mo doesnt get much time, unless it's more than third and a dime. Still Cobbs will battle and never stop...Dad says play Emmitt, but he's a cop. I love the games and cotton candy, Dad's weeping towel will come in handy. Coach Dickey says we're getting better, but that weeping towel is getting wetter? All I know is games are fun, and cant wait until another one. Win one or lose one this team is great, let's see if ESPN calls us North Texas State????"

  7. The fire Dickey stuff is crazy talk.  I can't think of another coach since Hayden Fry who has done more with this program.  This coaching job is a fight on and off the field....

At this point in the program, I'm backing Dickey until we post back-to-back losing seasons.

Thank You!!!! You dont fire the coach for one bad year? Bobby Bowden, Joe Paterno, etc... all had similar down years and all made it back. Do I think Darrell Dickey is on the same level with those guys?......YES. FOUR conference Championships, FOUR TIME Conference Coach of the Year. Jeesh guys, what does he have to do to get some faith around here? EVERY team has down years, and this could very well be ours. After 4 straight winning seasons, you guys are a bit spoiled. If Florida State, Notre Dame, and Penn State can deal with a losing season or two...I think we should be able to.

Dickey stays because he is a winner. We have a young team and a greener QB than the new jerseys. We have to deal with the fact that every team has down seasons... I would just assume this one is ours and let DD do his job! He has already shown you he knows how. So we dont go to a bowl this season...it had been fifty years since we saw a bowl BEFORE Dickey got here? Now after a couple of OOC losses you want to cut him loose?

I love you guys, you know that...but some of you picked the wrong week to stop sniffing glue...

    GMG!!! biggrin.gif

  8. Now THAT's freakin funny. Are the lights made from empty pill sleeves? If this one is really GG's, that would explain a lot. Great model... now we need to figure out who dresses up as that 50 foot tall Cowboy in the end-zone? We would need someone with experience...a Village People Fan.

I nominate Justin!!!!................. (Break my collar bone will ya?)

    GMG!!! biggrin.gif

  9. Wow? If that list is accurate, the FIU head coach makes more than Dickey in base salary..and insnt far behind Howard Schnellenberger at FAU. I would have started any Head coach at FIU in the mid 140's. Got a ways to go for that program to grow up, and 250K is a lot of money for several losing seasons.

Oh well, if they offerred...I'd take the money too.

    GMG!!!

  10. Emmitt is right. There are still positives for this year. Tulsa had the correct game plan against this offense. We took a setback, not a failure. It is still too early in the season to write anything off. So we learned a thing or two about our young QB. There is still plenty of time for this team to re-invent itself. Our success this season will be based on their ability to come together quickly after a devastating loss. It can be done, but two things have to happen and there is no getting around either:

    1. We need a QB to emerge and assume leadership of this team. I know that is asking a lot of a Freshman QB, especially when each of them know the other is also going to get reps. Quinn and Muzzy are leadership influences out there, so it can be done. Learn as much as possible from those two guys, and then push this offense they way they do. As Fans, we are always expecting too much from our players...it's our business. However, we can be realists, and will be patient if we see this team come together.

    2. Offensive Line: not much left to say here. We have the talent, they just need time to jell. Coach Dickey WILL get this fixed...I just hope it's sooner than later.

1-0 in conference...that's the way I see it.

    GMG!!!

  11. Oh come on, guys... It's one OOC loss. Everyone (including myself) panicked after the Baylor game last year too. Yes we looked ridiculous in the Tulsa game, but this is a VERY young defense and a Freshman QB. Darrell Dickey has given you four conference titles, and four straight bowl games... Is there a coach out there you think can do better than that? Please name him, an then tell me how you get him here? Darrell Dickey is not just a class act, he is a motivator and a proven winner.

We played a flag football game in April for the Andrew Smith Scholarship Fund and raised almost $500 from just the players. Coach Dickey was there for us. How many Division-I coaches show up to watch their alums and students play a game like that? Their time is extremely valuable. He also brought a boat-load of water and siged new hats for EVERYONE THERE... this coach is a rare breed, and we are very lucky to still have him. He wants to be here or he wouldnt be.

This is an easy one. Coach Dickey is here, and most of us hope that doesnt change aytime soon...

Just my two and a half cents.. GMG!!!

  12. This may sound silly, but after reading the great 6 column article about his great QB days at Kansas State, and how great it will be to see some of his old teammates, I'm thinking he might get an offer he can't refuse in Kansas. They have some high school coaching jobs open, I'm sure. Maybe he can take Ramon with him. We could make Kenny Evans head coach and make Bruce Bell offensive coordinator, and Van Malone defensive coordinator.

GG, the doctor told you to breath OXYGEN at night. (Green bottle) The stuff in that glass tube is illegal. Just say NO, man....just say NO.

  13. K-Scrape: 55

    North Texas: 10

    ---------------------------------------------.

Danny Meager: 6 of 14 for 70 yards

Patrick Cobbs: 40 Carries for 120 Yards and one TD.

Jamario Thomas: 3 carries for 8 yards and a really nice excercise bike ride...

Nick Bazaldua: 53 yard field goal and extra point. (also screams "Yeah, you're winning, but there's no kicker in YOUR conference can make THAT kick!!!..at the K-State sideline)

  14. Yes we did...and thanks RV for being wise enough to tell them NO THANKS. We get NO benefit from being a WAC team? Travel costs, same strength of schedule as Belt, non-regional opponents, fans cant attend as many away games, etc....

We are in the Belt until C-USA decides we are ready. Works for me!!!! Trust in RV to get that done in the near future. He has delivered on his other promises so far...

OOC wins, a new stadium, attendance improvements, and C-USA will follow. We have a few tasks to go in this conference first.

  15. seriously, until Maydayger can throw deep and is healthy play Phillips...

"Maydayger"...Havent heard him called that before... pretty freakin funny. Danny is a good kid, and plays smart. There just seems to be something wrong with his arm strength. We need Meager at 100%, so I say give Phillips a start and lets get the stronger arm in untill Meager is ready. I know arm strength doesnt equate to wins, but we need to try something to spark the passing game.

Of course, I will be okay with whatever the Ole Ball Coach does. This week has become the test of many of our levels of confidence. I have become a Darrell Dickey L&A, and think he has earned that after four Conference Championships.

    GMG!!!

  16. Darrell Dickey is not the problem here, guys... he is the solution. Ramon Flannigan is the problem. I know this "run, run, run" crap works against belt teams, and probably will again this year. Darrell Dickey needs to start calling more plays and taking control. We love Patrick Cobbs...no question. But for God's sakes please play Jamario Thomas. The offense now resembles the Galbreath/Cobbs backfield in 02, but Cobbs got more carries that year than J-Mo is getting? I trust DD to fix that this week. DD is a winner, and will fix this. The season is still early, and this happens every year. We get clown out by a OOC team, and then DD works his magic in Sunbelt play. Our issues for the long haul are simple: we want to move into C-USA, and cannot do that getting beat by a C-USA team by 50 AND playing them in a nicely-turfed high school stadium?

Stebo is right on the money here... Dickey bashing is not productive or warranted. IF you want a head, take Flannigans. The offensive gameplan and calls come from the Flannigan "Hall of Shame". Trust in Darrell Dickey because he has shown his metal.

    I'll back that any day.

  17. That was an illegal block. We called it a "pick" when one receiver came over an blocked one of us off our our guy while the ball was in the air. That used to draw a flag every time? The commentators for the TCU game did catch it, but the game was over with a "no-call". You could see the Utah coaching staff screaming at the officials the second it happened. I know mistakes will always be made by officials...they are human. I have to think that if there is an error made, at least it was in favor of the home team. Should a similar issue cone up in a NT game, I think we would all feel like TCU does today. A win is a win....

  18. NT - 35

    Tulsa - 24

    Cobbs: 140 yards rushng (2 TD's)

Thomas: 120 Yards rushing (1 TD)

Quinn: 4 catches for 80 yards (1 TD)

    Nwigwe: 3 catches for 110 (1 TD)

    Attendance: 20,500

    Program: $5.00

    Hot dog: $3.00

    Soda: $2.00

Debut of the new #21 Jersey......PRICELESS!!!!

    GMG!!! wink.gif

  19. Yep...should be Green -#21.

I know, I'm breaking tradition....but the ole #37 jersey has not been retired. It has been passed to another Mean Greener. James Mitchell will still be well represented at the tailgate and in the stands, and honestly that jersey never looked as good as it will now.
