  1. My hubby called and told me about this but he didn't give me specifics. Something was in yesterday's DMN or Quick I think. Does anyone have details???

He is a back-up quaterback, and he is coming into a program where breaking into that starting lineup will be almost impossible. Forget this year.. look at next season? Giovanni Vizza, Danny Meager, Riley Dodge, Nathan Tune, Matt Philips... you get the picture. I would have to think this kid is willing to switch positions, or run the scout team as suggested in another thread.

He may have been better off waiting for his chance with the Ponies? I trust Todd Dodge, so I guess we can never have too many QB's at NT.

    GMG!!!

  2. The QB battle will be a good one... I still think Vizza gets the job, but I'm glad everyone gets a fair shot. (that would not be the case if Flanny was still here) I'm more concerned about a true freshman walking onto that field in Norman? He ges to attempt field goals on one of the most hostile playing fields, in front of 93,000 of the most rabid fans in college football? Talk about pressure? IF the kid who kicked in the Oil Bowl gets the job, at least he has some real talent. There is no real way to prepare a kid for a crowd like OU, so he will have to be tough. I dont know why Winward left, but he sure didnt do Todd Dodge any favors? Oh well, things happen...

Here's to another Mean Green opening day game! Lets please have good weather for a change in Norman?, then let's have a beer or two for whoever ends up kicking their first Division-I college game in front of THAT crowd.

    GMG!!! ;)

  3. Hard to make a prediction when we dont even know who the QB is going to be? But what the hell, there's no harm in guessing.

9/1 @ Oklahoma- Loss, but we score three TD's. (42-21)

9/8 @ SMU - win, and the second half sees the start of the "God-Father" era in NT sports. Here comes Giovanni Vizza. (38-17)

9/22 Florida Atlantic - win, Vizza throws 4 TD's and Jamario runs for one. (35-14)

9/29 @ Arkansas - Loss, Vizza is good on Offense but he cant play D.. I dont know where Roy Loren is, but I know where he aint? Help us Bron..(38-21)

10/6 @ UL-Laf - win, The spread-O is too much for the Rajun Cajun D. Great fans in that town! Well worth the 9 hour drive. (42-28)

10/13 Louisiana Monroe - win, Brandon Jackson has 200 receiving yards. (ULM comes out in a worse helmet than our old Daffy Eagle helmet) (34-14)

10/20 @ Troy - Loss, close game. Isaac Thomas and Blake Burruss get a sack each. NT kicker Jonathan Ieans misses FG with seconds left. (24-21)

10/27 Middle Tennessee - Win, The MUTS are good, but the God-Father is better. Casey Fitzgerald coming out party, Jamario gets his 100yds. (31-20)

11/10 Navy - loss, but this one goes down to the last play. Navy kicks FG to break the tie (34-31)

11/15 @ Arkansas State - Loss, Ark. State is the most improved team in conference. Vizza still gets the pill in the paint twice. (28-21)

11/24 Western Kentucky - Win, welcome to Division-IA. Jamario 2 TD catches out of the backfield, Jackson has two scores. (45-7)

12/1 @ FLORIDA INTERNATIONAL - win, Playing for the conf. title. (Troy and NT both have 7 wins) (38-10)

    12/21 @New Orleans Bowl: North Texas(7-5) vs. SMU(7-5)

Just enough truth to be dangerous!!!...(although I wouldnt put much money on the John Ieans kicking thing????)

  4. HAHAHAHA.... Now THAT'S funny! My entire company was just sold to Morgan Stanley, and I had to talk to the "Bob's" yesterday. I didnt think anything could cheer me up?

Thanks Justin... that was gold brother.

OOOPPPPSSS....sorry 23, I thought that was UNT_FAN_92. Thanks for the laugh anyway!

  5. Josh Alexander (unsuccessful knee rehabitation and Roy Loren undisclosed reasons are no longer on the team. Dodge says he wants to find an undergraduate staff position for Alexander, a graduate of FW Southwest.

CRAP!!! Loren is currently leading my team in INT's on NCAA 08. I realize it's just a game, but now Warren will start SS. He hits like a freight train, but gets beat deep a lot. (at least in the video game?) You gotta love XBOX 360! Oh well, Let's see if Warren or Bron Hager can fill that gap with a different scheme. I sure will miss Loren's speed. As for Alexander, Josh is a HUGE loss for our OL. I hope things go well for him. He is really one of the good guys...

  6. Now that practices are starting we will get a better idea of "who fits where" in the 4-3 again. My predictions?

LOLB: Maurice Holman / Germaine Dawson / Penson

MLB: Derek Mendoza / Tobe Nwigwe / Justin Padron (he is a born leader and I think he could contribute this year. He just needs to put on a few lbs)

ROLB: Brandon Monroe / Colt Mahan / Robertson

Just a guess, like everyone else. I also think Woody Wilson gets some time at ROLB this year!

Calm down EMM. I'm only kidding!!!!...Hehe.

  7. His arrest is not really a shock after seeing his website, but damn... a felony? I dont remember much about his playing ability, just that he was a big guy for a QB. You hate to see a young man throw his future away like that.. makes no sense.

In the "where are they now?" catagory, I was wonderring what ever happened to George Marshall? He will forever be rememberred for a dropped ball on ESPN2. I wonder what that guy is doing now? I also wonderred about Jonus Buckles and what he is up to? Seems we hear things about the other players from those teams.

Anyway, good luck to Joey Byerly and his crew. I hear prisons have football teams for inmates, and they get special treatment if they play? Wait, no... that was a movie. Looks like someone is just screwed....

  8. How are you related to Meager? Brother, sister, mother, father, uncle???

Haha... I dont know if you meant me, but despite the sarcasm, no relation. I have been watching NT football as a season ticket holder at Fouts since 97. I have seen good and bad QB's in that time, but never a worse offensive coordinator then RF. I will back anyone who steps up to center on gameday, we just need to remember that ALL of the QB's played the last two years with their hands tied. None of them should be judged until we see what TD does with them. Personally, I think Vizza will end up with the job. He came from a spread offense, he has played with Sam Dibrell and there is already chemistry there, and his game film is amazing.

I just want everyone to get a fair shot... and YES, that includes Danny Meager.

    Signed... Danny Meager's new uncle....hehe

    GMG!!! :)

  9. Wow? That was a Plum-like post. As rants go that was a bit harsh, but a fair opinion. Since I am one of the last of the Darrell Dickey apologists, I will chime in here. Dickey is responsible for his coaches, and payed the ultimate penalty for it. Danny Meager has had a few things work against him in his two REAL years here... The biggest of those was Ramon Flannigan as the OC. The reason Kellen Haynes left this program was because of Flanny, and his inability to take a raw QB and improve him. RF wanted every QB that walked out there to be as polished and programmed as Scott Hall. RF never saw potential in the young guys coming in, or bothered to teach more than X's and O's. (Kellen Haynes is now about 6-2, around 215 lbs, and by the way... was a PASSING stud in his high-school in Houston)

The point here is that Meager was in the same offensive HELL as the other QB's...and that hell is gone now. ANYONE who watched the spring game saw BOTH Meager and Wilson play much better ball in the Todd Dodge offense. Even if you had issues with Meager before, you have to give him a chance in this system because he has earned it. Give the kid a chance to play in a system designed to fit his skills, with a real teacher to help him get better. Yes, we were all frustrated with Danny's play last year... but the spring game showed he can be effective if given a reasonable chance to learn the offense. He didnt have that last year, but he does now. (the draw play on 3rd and 23 does NOT allow the QB's to make a difference in the outcome of the game) Some of those games were lost in the coaches box before the snap ever took place. I look at it this way... If Danny doesnt win the job while Vizza and Wilson are taking snaps right along side of him, then you get your wish and someone else plays QB. All I'm asking is we dont be so quick to write off ANY QB who had to play under Ramon Flannigan. Opinions are good and keep us all talking football in the off-season, but we have to trust Todd Dodge and who he thinks is the best fit for this offense. We need to stay on the band-wagon long enough to find out if the doubt about Meager is really warranted? You may be right about Meager's ability, but we really dont know yet?...we cannot know based on Ramon Flannigan's fiascos we called gameplans? Give the kid a chance to play for us while learning from a real teacher. Todd Dodge is a winner, this much we know. If he says Meager is the guy... then we back Meager.

    Fair enough?

  10. If you have ever held a bathroom conversation with a cricket?...You might be a Mean Green Fan.

If your offensive coodinator is more aggressive in the stands than he is with his play calling?....You might be a Mean Green Fan.

If you've ever bought a team jersey, only to wonder if that will even be the right color next season?...You might be a Mean Green Fan.

If you go to a football game and the "Eagle-screech" from the PA system scares 5 years off of your life?...You might be a Mean Green Fan.

If you have ever spent the entire night in a parking lot waiting for an SMU game?... yeah, SMU? ...You might be a Mean Green Fan.

If you taken more than one road trip to watch your team play the reigning National Champions?...You might be a Mean Green Fan.

Finally, if you've had the urge to stand up at a football or basketball game, start clapping and scream "Mandy McKinley everybody...Mandy McKinley!!!"... YOU are ABSOLUTELY a MEAN GREEN FAN!

  11. I mentioned this on the board a while back, but I did a year there in 96/97. (sounds like a prison sentence?). We watched several basketball games in Texas Hall (the stage) and it was a riot! The ball went out of bounds into the floor seats, and they couldnt find it? I also thought the Stephen F. players were really cool... They did their shoot-around before the game and were laughing about the drop-off, but showed a lot of class when the game was over. The student section is against the back wall, and the fans in the auditorium were looking UP at the game. I have to say that is probably the second strangest place I have ever seen a sporting event. (Anyone who has been to Idaho knows my #1)

The simple truth is that UTA at least has a place to play basketball. It may not be good, but at least they have that team. After football was taken away from them, I worried that other sports would soon follow. Anyone who has spent more than two semesters there since 1995 understands the demographics are quite different for UTA now. Sports are a difficult sell with the majority of students. I am happy for the students, who get to have a homecoming celebration during basketball season... but that is better than no homecoming at all. I'll go back and watch a game in Arlington. UTA beat us last year, so this would be a great time for a "Pay-back" game!

As for the players?, watch where you are walking...

  12. Good info... The program is moving in a positive direction, and bringing in Todd Dodge is a MAJOR part of the new excitement. RV helped get us a coach that could not only carry us into another bowl, but possibly into another conference. I dont know what other universities expect from their AD's, but we are certainly getting our money's worth out of ours. Count me in for having some patience with the rest of the growth. We will get there...

Thanks again for the info Rick. I dont think you'll find many doubters on this board. As for the stadium?, Fouts will work for now. I just think it would look a little nicer with a big CONFERENCE USA insignia at midfield!!!!....hehe.

  13. Cam Montgomery played well in the spring. He seems to be more of a "get three tough yards" kind of back, but he will fit TD's system nicely. He also picked up the pass-blocking very well. (Got a good block on Big-Mo Holman in the spring game).

I cant wait for practices to start..

See you guys August 4th at the BBQ.

  14. Not exactly, Jeff.

The two free tickets are for season ticket RENEWALS. If you're a new season ticket holder....you don't get two free tickets to the Cookout. I have had season tickets in the past, but didn't have them last year, so I had to buy a ticket to the Cookout (as will others).

Hope this clears things up. The two free tickets are ONLY for folks who renewed their season tickets.

Almost... The free tickets are for those who renewed their tickets by the March deadline... everyone who renewed after that or new season ticket holders will have to pay for their tickets..(I just talked to Megan at the ticket office)

Sorry...but the cost is not that bad.

  15. Brings back a few memories from reading this article; I do remember the large crowd and it pouring rain in the first quarter......

You will also note the class act that is Bob Stoops. After pulling to a comfortable lead in BOTH games there, Stoops pulled ALL of his starters and played the backups for most of the third and fourth quarters. I can think of another Big-XII coach who could have done that, but didnt. As for the OU trip, yes... it rained BOTH times we were there. They also stuck us in those corner seats, all jammed in like sardines. I would take it personal, but they do that to everyone who plays there. Still, Meen Green Football is greatness anytime...in anyplace.

Bring on the season and the spread offense!!!!

  16. Great fun for the young-uns at very little cost. My son has been in since it started. He had Blake Burruss last year for a player-buddy, and Blake is a great guy. Chris is 13 now, so he has been spending more time with us tailgaiting, and is done with the JMGC. He always had a great time, but is ready to be a full time tailgaiter. I just have to teach him not to repeat everything he hears? I can deal with the "WOODY...WOODY", he gets that from Emmitt. But hearing "UT is a very good football team, let's just get out with no injuries"?

    NOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

  17. No question... Cody Spencer. The guy could hit, cover, and read the QB's thoughts. He always seemed to know where the ball was going. I remember the shot Cody put on a MTSU receiver (I think it was Tyronne Callico) at FOUTS. The crowd all at once screamed "OOOOOOHHHHHH MAN!?" Callico got up, but he didnt catch another pass on a crossing route.. and he had two more thrown to him? In the back of his mind he was already hearing Spencer's footsteps. THAT is what the best LB's do... they intimidate. Cody was great at that! (He also has the best "I got kicked off of an airplane" story. THAT story is for tailgaiting...hehe)
