  1. Why you ask???

Rick is god on this board, well maybe the second coming. Move this Bus, I mean post.

Easy guys...this is the right place for this post. Rick is probably talking about the service from ticket office and some shortcomings in the Ath. Dept. I hope some of them read that list. I have had mostly good experiences with the Athletic Dept. (Gabe in the ticket office is great, Mary at Coach Dodge's office very helpful, and Brian Bethea is fantastic in the AD), but there are some others over there who need to read this post. I believe Rick put it here for them. I know of an alum who has had to go around the horn to get any season ticket information for next season because no one from the ticket office would call him back? He has never had a season ticket and he graduated in the early 90's? This is a new fan and returning alum. I know they are busy over there, but every seat sold helps? I suggested he call Gabe direct, or let me call for him to see if I could get some info. The point is simple... Customer service is important to all of us when dealing with the NT Athletic dept. If NT ever gets to the point of an A&M or UT, where there is a waiting list for tickets, then dont return phone calls.. but we are not there yet?

Good post Rick... most of us got it.

  2. Wow?... that stadium is tiny. I guess Fouts looks pretty good to a recruit who has seen fields like that one? The kid has size, and that is enough to start with in my book. Let Coach Deloach figure out how best to polish the kid. (Yes, I'm still counting on Coach D)

    GMG!!!

  3. Deloach knows what he is doing..plain and simple. I do find it a bit ironic that Todd Dodge is not comfotable with the blitz, but anyone who watched UCLA play USC or Oregon this year saw the Deloach players attack like wild men! Oregon had a pretty good offensive line, and the UCLA defense was really getting pressure. I think the proof is in results. The NT defense was great when he coached here, and the UCLA defense played better when he got there.

No more wasted time. get Deloach back here! I hope the announcement comes soon.

  4. Yeah...yeah...yeah..., enough already. We know, our season was terrible. We dont need to be on any list to remember that? I know we deserve most of what they are saying right now. BUT, with a new defensive coordinator comes renewed hope. I could be jumping the gun a little, but on the slightest chance that Deloach comes back and ressurects this defense... think about what we could be seeing next season? Could there be another Brad Kassell, Cody Spencer, or Chris Hurd in this group? Toby Nwigwe, Colt Mahan, Craig Robertson, etc... there is big-time talent on this defense. I say it can be done if Deloach says it can be done? Do we have another Darrell Daniels, Adrian Awasome, or even a Even Cardwell out there?... It might be a bit much to expect the second coming of Brandon Kennedy, but I see Eddie Gilmore and Kail Krider with a lot of talent. Joesph Miller had a monster year at DT and could be huge as a senior under Deloach. My point is that we could be on the verge of seeing something very special in these players, they just need someone who can convince them they are better than the guy across from them...no matter the jersey?

Count me in for more money if RV manages another miracle and gets our guy. (yes, I know Coach Dodge really hires the DC, but RV got Todd Dodge to come here, and most of us didnt think that would happen?) Now let's get Deloach back here and get on with this thing! I know we are all tired of talking about it, so why do we? Simple; we got used to winning, bowl games, and New Orleans vacations. Three straight years of losing is enough. We've paid our dues.

Get Coach D back here, and dont look back.

  5. I know I will!!!!!!!

    Rick

HAHA.... good one Rick. Emmitt and I are going to write thank you messages on our MGC donation this year, and mine will read something like this....

"Here is my 2008 contribution to the Mean Green Club. You will notice the amount is much higher than last years? No, it is not a typo. Our offense was phenominal and made us all very proud! As we will thankfully have a new Defensive Coordinator this year, and thus need 30 less points per game to win?, I am donating the weekly money I would have spent sending CLUES to the DC's office. I believe our new guy will have one.....Thank you".

  6. Is there any way we can provide our own shirts for the screen-printing? Last year I got one with a pocket and it looks kinda ghey.

Sorry, shirts were donated y Walmart in Irving (Thanks again Tanya) so I dont know how many came with pockets. My shirt didnt have one? This year I am hoping to get the shirts and printing from the same supplier. Let' see how much I can get out of him before we start worrying about supplying our own stuff.

    Thanks...

  7. 2 things I noticed and have questions about...

What kind of injuries have we had MED... I dont remember? ha

If JB (Barnett) does play... we have to have a equally football skilled collegiate Athlete on the other team???? Where are we going to find that?

HAHA... okay, for those who do not remember, Some SHMUCK broke my collar-bone in the GMG Bowl II. It wouldnt have been so bad if he had dropped the stinkin ball after the hit, but he hung on to it? Insult to injury I guess. (Thanks Justin) Was an accidental collision and the game was still a blast. I just got to spend three quality hours in the Baylor Irving Emergency Room getting XRAYS and bad news...hehe. It was worth every second to play in that game. We all had a great time as we always do, and that is the only injury I can remember. (Well, Pierow leveled me on a late hit a couple of years ago and I think he got ejected, but that didnt hurt...and it was damn funny)

The point is we all have a great time playing in this thing every year, and it helps us remember a great kid who gave so much to our Beloved North Texas.

As for the second question, JB was not a scholarship football player. Let's just try to keep this thing as even as we can.

    More to come later...

  8. Sorry about the slow response... The same eligibility rules will apply this year as the last four.

    1. Player must be a member of the GoMeanGreen.com message board to be eligible.

    2. Player must be at least 18 years old to compete. (injury and alcohol concerns make this one mandatory...sorry to the kiddo's, but it's a rough game out there and injuries do happen on occasion)

    3. Player must be drafted on the night of the live draft. No surprise entries or last minute exemptions unless agreed to by both captains.

    4. player trades are allowed if agreed to by both captains. The commish..(me) may deny a trade in the event it makes the teams un-even. (has never happened)

    5. Former scholarship athletes are draft eligible if an equal number submit FACTUAL draft bios. There MUST be an equal number on both teams.

Hope that clears things up.. most on this board have played in these games already and have a good grasp of how this works.

I'll post the game rules and event schedules as usual. Watch the board for those updates.

  9. So far it looks like the 13th works for everyone? I'll go ahead and confim that with Brian today. This date will be set IN STONE. Brian and I looked at the big board in the Ath. Office and there is nothing to bump us out this year.

    Now for the Ringer-rule...

Article 124 of the GMG.com Bowl regulations... "the roster addition of a former scholarship football player is allowed if an additional former scholarship football player is added to the opposing roster. Both players must be on and off of the field at the same time. Also in effect is the "Blount" rule. Any former scholarship player scoring four or more touchdowns in one game may be ejected for showing up a bunch of beer-drinking, non-scholarship, athletically-average players. This rule was enacted to prevent game blow-outs, and may also be referred to by the refferees as the "Good-Sheppard" Rule".

    GMG!!! :)

  10. I met with Brian Bethea yesterday and worked out the dates. This is the Sunday after the spring game, so it is probably the best date we can get. (we can play the game anytime that day..early or late) Post your general opinions here about that date (works or not) and I will give Brian the go ahead. He has been really great to work with and said he will do whatever he can to avoid the fiasco that was last year. Also everyone should know that Brian is getting married this summer (July 19th), so we should all give him some huge congrats!!!! Of all the people I've worked with over these past few years in the athletic dept., Brian has always been the most cooperative and helpful.

So, speak up and give me the okay if the date works for you... I really want to play this game at Fouts this year. We already have a backup date, but it would push the game into early May. Let's try to get everyone on board for April 13th. Check your calendars and post what you think.

  11. My Brother is the proud parent of a SLC player. They are under the impression that Mendoza had no talent to work with on Defense. His exact quote was "Todd Dodge always put his best athletes on offense here, and Mendoza still put top flight defenses on the field with lesser performers". My response...

"Really, did Mendoza have to find a way to hold on to a 62-POINT LEAD at SouthLake? He couldnt find a way to do it in Denton with EXCEPTIONAL athletes?"

Sorry, I'm just glad a change has been made. Way to go Coach Dodge!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

    It's over and I'm out.

  12. My vote... Coach Mendoza.

Forget he had one of the worst defenses in the history of college football (not my statements, Arkansas, Navy, and Oklahoma Media said so), and forget that he took a 65th ranked defense and made them 117th... He gets my vote for that crap he pulled at Fouts with FFR's son standing right next to him? What kind of coach shows any aggression towards a fan in front of a child?

If I had three votes, Mendoza would get all three...

  13. Haha... I love ultimatums. That is the fastest way to get eliminated from a relationship. I guess SMU is ready to back to the last candidate.

Good luck Ponies... I really do hope they find someone soon. If all else fails, I have a word for both SMU and Coach Fran..

  14. Strange? Inside source still says Coach Fran the front runner, but there are some real issues in getting a deal done. (Heard the odds that Fran takes that job now dropped to 50%) I would be shocked if June Jones left one of the hottest programs and recruiting hot-beds in the NCAA, and jumped into one of the least desdired head coaching jobs in football? Although it does happen, I would'nt count on JJ. My guess, their HC list looks something like this...

    1. Dennis Francione (front runner)

    2. Mike Singletary (Interested also in Atlanta Falcons HC job)

    3. Terry Bowden (Yes, he is looking for a Head-coaching job and would boost recruiting almost overnight)

    4. Chan Gailey (not sure of his status)

    5. Darrell Dickey (Two-time SBC coach of the year, Four consecutive SBC-Conference titles and four consecutive Bowl appearances)

Again, this is SPECULATION... but fire away with your opinions.

  15. I bid on it.. I call that one the "Brad Kassell" helmet. I remember him picking off that pass at Texas Tech and scoring. While the players celebrated in the end zone, the helmets looked like a bunch of ducks jumping up and down. Was kinda funny really... but great! Oh yes, the old Texas Tech Rivalry... Imagine if Scott Hall had played that entire game?, or if Mac hadnt fumbled the ball right in front of us? I would love to have that TT series back. Imagine with these two offenses on the field now? A offensive shootout like we've never seen!

Well, except for this years Navy game.... never a dull moment in that one!

  16. Forget the contracts... how does Petrino convince an 18 year old recruit to come to Arkansas, only to have a new head coach in two years? Player parents arent foolish enough to trust a guy who jumps ship when things get tough? Yes, it is an SEC coaching gig, but less than ONE year in the Pro's and he's already quiting on those guys??? DeAngelo Hall is right..the guy is a loser. Makes you wonder what Petrino will say to a High school quarter-back who is deciding between Arkansas or Alabama? I can already hear it...

"Look, we play the same type of offense you play. We have the finest facilities in the state, AND... if you and I dont get along, I'll be gone by the Spring Game!"

Gotta love a head-coach who fights through the tough times..... <_<

    GMG!!!

  17. I guess the "I told you so" thing just doesnt quite cover it here. In all fairness, Francione loves the run offense, and DD has won four conference titles doing just that. When I posted this last week, some of you thought I was crazy... now I think we can agree that the only really crazy people wear the initials SMU. I got the info from a friend/player at SMU, and he said they would be very happy to get Coach Fran. They were'nt as enthusiastic about the posibility of Coach Dickey being the OC. How great would it be if this happened and we played them this year at Fouts? What could have been.....

The exact statement he made to me was this .."Coach Francione would bring credibility to our team and our school. He would also help us recruit against guys like Todd Dodge." Whethet you like Coach Dodge or not, you gotta LOVE that!!!!

    GMG!!!

  18. Not so fast... I learned this morning that SMU is already talking to Dennis Francione. (I would be shocked if he took that job, but if was offerred to him) As if that is not wild enough info for ya, Coach Fran is rumored to have his eye set on a former NT coach for his staff. That coach won 4 SBC titles back to back as a head coach. That's all I was told, but the info has always been good before.... it ought to be. Those who know me know who I get my info from over there.

I would be really surprised if coach Fran takes the HC job at SMU, but they sure have a lot of money to throw at the guy. As I was told this morning, "Hey, we got Forrest Gregg to coach here, and he coached in the Pro's...is Francione a bigger name than Gregg?"

I guess there's a point to be made there.... we'll see.
