I hear you, depends on where the tear is and the severity, of which we are not privy to.

These injuries are difficult to treat as they almost always strains from untreated biomechanical faults. Hence the tissue needs to heal but you also need to fix what set up the injury in the first place.

When Jones made a brief appearance a few games ago he almost immediately aggregated it when he played full speed.

Team finally learning to gel now without Jones and Noland.  I guess they are both out for the regular season.

Seems that way, which is unfortunate. Makes me wonder about our sports medicine/athletic training department and what's going on with their healing.

  3. To play devil's advocate I don't believe anyone's "fandom" is being challenged as much as their "support" either in person or financial. Which is not the same as following a team. This point was made many times so we should stop conflating said fandom and support.

I've said as much before and received the same reaction.

I'm not taking any sides but the point is well taken when referenced correctly - to keyboard coaches that know it all but do not financial support or attend in person. If you don't fit that then this is not about you.

I doesn't like the phrase "Wild West", because the "west" was never that "wild" to begin with, as Ryan McMaken points out in his book detailing how many a John Ford and John Wayne movie were actually closet-Marxist propaganda films and DE-regulation is actually what is needed (basically everywhere, more so now than before the founding of Atlantis), and let the free market fix itself!

Yes! THANKS! Unless it is specified in a given contractual clause otherwise that both parties voluntarily sign of whole mind-and-body. There can be specifics written into these.

See this poster's opening post on this thread here:

    Glorious s.o.b! /applaud

Basic contract law can cover this; make it like how the U.S. Army would promise to pay soldiers with the "GI Bill" once they got home (stimulating the first-and-second "Baby Boomer" generations), whereby if a given player does wish to pursue a degree of worth to that player for a particular side-hustle or field-of-interest outside of, in-tandem with, or after pro football, somewhere (NFL/UFL/CFL/etc..), once they're eligibility is over with so they can fully focus on either thing when they're in their prime to do such a thing! Weirdly enough....having more time to focus on one's craft, in this case football, may result in less injuries and a greater "street smarts" Gerald Graff wrote of in "Hidden Intellectualism" that can raise one's IQ outside the classroom and provide basic knowledge and wisdom from teamwork a hopeful provider as a husband and father could pass on! Males, for example, have more of a "one-track mind" compared to females, who can multi-task better. See muh post in this other thread yuh commented on:

F TitleIX altogether! "Equality" is NOT always the same thing as "Equity" and the feminization agenda has to stop! The State is illegitimate and a private firm should not be forced by such a "gang of men", as H.L. Mencken described it, to fund programs for minorities and women that largely may not even want to be there and/or that no one cares for, at least outside of their budget for such low attendance and interest! Funnily and ironically, and hypocritically, enough, these DEI-advocates and sycophants say nothing on most TV commercial advertisements catering to minorities, when they are, for example, the Negroid-peoples, 14% of the population....why are they not only represented in 14% of advertisement and the Caucasian majority are not? Why are there no all-Caucasian or all-male colleges and universities out there? Can Caucasians demand "reparations" from Sauds for the Barbary-Slave-Trade? Etc., etc..

What in the Uniform Commercial Code (UCC) is going on here?!?

  5. Thoughts on our new Offensive Line coach? Have not seen anyone post about this.

"Left with joins the staff after a one-year stint at Oregon

DENTON, Texas – UNT head football coach Eric Morris has announced the hiring of Cutter Leftwich as its new Offensive Line Coach.

Leftwich comes to Denton following one season at Oregon in 2023 where he served as assistant offensive line coach. The 2023 Oregon offensive line was named as a finalist for the prestigious Joe Moore Award given annually to the nation's top unit.

Oregon's offensive line was dominant in 2023 leading the nation with just five sacks allowed, four fewer than any other FBS team. The Ducks allowed multiple sacks just once in 13 games this season while not allowing any sacks in nine games, including six of the last seven.

Tied for fourth in the FBS with just 42 tackles for loss allowed, Oregon ranks second in the nation in scoring (44.2 ppg), total offense (526.6 ypg) and passing offense (342.8 ypg), while ranking third in yards per rush (5.86).

Oregon is the top-graded pass blocking team in the nation by Pro Football Focus at 91.3, checking in as the only team above 90.0. The Ducks are also the nation's No. 2 graded rushing team by PFF at 95.0.

Leftwich also spent one season each on staff at UCLA (2022) and UTSA (2021).

A native of El Paso, he played collegiately at McNeese State from 2018-19 where he started 20 games at center. He is the son of former UNT assistant coach Spencer Leftwich, who had two stints on the Mean Green staff from 1994-02 and 2007-09.

Leftwich earned his degree from McNeese in December 2020. "

    Coaching History
    2021: UTSA, graduate assistant
    2022: UCLA, graduate assistant
2023: Oregon, graduate assistant/assistant offensive line
    2024-: UNT, offensive line.

Thanks. I love the Mean Green and wish I'd spent more years in easy driving distance to our games instead of moving to Florida.

I just spent the evening on FSU's campus in Tallahassee watching tens of thousands of fans leaving the game, camping and cooking out in the RV parking lot and loving life. Gameday here is an enormous street party. I can still here it going on at Potbelly's from my son's apartment. They started partying and drinking at 10 a.m.

If I had the money to make Denton that kind of scene I'd spend it, but while Brint Ryan was getting his UNT degree in accounting with an emphasis on taxation I was getting mine in journalism to be a newspaper reporter. Half the papers I applied for jobs at are dead.

I appreciate you sharing that. We all know it ain't easy being green. But we can't help that we bleed it.

All of our time and financial contributions matter, no matter how large or small. And we should all have a voice, especially with warranted criticism.

I'm not here to shame, guilt, or coerce people into donating to the school or team. But if someone is routinely negative while admittedly not supporting the team that doesn't sit well with me.

When will we get mad enough to go beyond the keyboards? That is my question.

Calling people haters is an attempt to score points on the Internet.

The things I do to support the Mean Green are because I enjoy doing them. We should stay in our lanes. I am in the fan lane. Eric Morris is in the getting paid $1 million to win games lane.

No, I don't care about internet points. The posters I am talking about are legit haters, like by definition.

I love that you support the team. That's really all I'm asking from said haters. It is that simple.

But if someone is here sharing warranted criticism while not literally supporting the team it gets real old, real fast. Especially for people who are financially contributing, and no matter how much or little.

What a ridiculous notion. Wouldn't that make you a fair weather fan? Sounds like people think they can post here and that will change things. What a pipe dream.

Same thing with not purchasing apparel, or going to games, etc. The lack of support while expecting better is absurd.

I know I'll get eyes rolls and whatever from the haters that are more concerned with being right about their nihilistic and self deprecative  predictions than supporting the team they are apparently fans of.

I'm going to assume that we are mostly average fans here, not donors writing big checks.

Some people on GMG think they can shame us into giving more in the hopes that money will produce wins on the field, but that's unrealistic. Non-rich alumni give money to their school's athletic programs when they are excited. They don't see a bunch of losses piling up, a new coach stumbling out of the block and open up their wallets.

For us, the money follows the success, not the other way around.

The only people capable of turning their money directly into athletic success are the big donors living the suite life who could bankroll an NIL collective and better facilities.

That ain't us. We aren't loaded and we are completely immune to shame, otherwise we wouldn't be UNT fans at all.

Let me just clarify my whole position, we suck and it’s unacceptable.  We have a ton of bad players.  We have got to fix that fast.  Eric is not an idiot. He knows the reality that we all do. I’m pissed.  I hate this shit.  We can’t afford better, so let’s invest. Some of y’all just gripe and don’t give and you might as well leave if that’s the way you’re gonna treat it.

Some here are more interesting in scoring internet points with snarky digs at other posters while armchair coaching.

All while admittedly not financially supporting the team. It begs the question of whether or not they are fans or just haters.

Maybe we're protecting them. Allegedly the green basketball jerseys were stolen in Ruston, too.

I find team jersey theft to be incredibly perplexing. Is it done out of spite, for resale value (doubtful), or because of some other reason?

Any thoughts on how or why this happens?

Back in the 70’s I would drive up many times from South Oak Cliff after work on a Friday night to attend a North Texas pep rally. Fry would be on a about 1 foot high small wooden platform on the south side of Kerr Hall encouraging the 80 or so fans to support the team at Saturdays game. This was at a time when many students were pushing to abolish the football program. I would drive up again Saturday for the game by myself because I couldn’t get anyone to go. Same for basketball. Fry is the best Coach this University has ever had bar none and the Administration would not support him. Not at all. He left and is now in the College Hall of Fame

Dr. Hurley a great academic President allowed the school to drop to 1aa football. Many on this board recognize and claim this as the most damaging move the Administration could have ever made and point to this failure as the reason for our lack of real success to this present day.

Helwig banning tailgating and changing our school colors, adding blue and orange.

The Dodge hire and allowing him to bring his high school defensive coordinator and coaches. Enough said.

    Trilli, Benford. Enough said

Allowing Rick Villarreal to stick around for 15 years. Enough said

Instead or hiring a young, vibrant enthusiastic head coach we hire an aged coach clearly on his way out, McCarney,  and pay a 1.3 million buyout. Or was it 2.3?

We next hire an unproven head coach in Littrell allowing him to learn on the job, get hoodwinked in contract negotiations because of our lack of knowledge and understanding and then can not fire him at a crucial time for the program because of the huge buyout we agreed to.

I’m on this board because I fell in love with NORTH TEXAS the first time I laid eyes on it in the Fall of 1969. I’ve listed a few  of the foolish and damaging decisions this Administration has made over the years that has stymied the success of our programs. I’m sure there are more.

You can label me a fatalist if you want, that’s fine, but actually I’m a realist and believe it or not an optimist. I can put on the green glasses and I have at times.

I love this school more than any employee ever will. Most on this board do. But if we want this program to excel beyond our wildest dreams than all of us need to take off the green glasses, see and tell the truth and hold those making huge salaries accountable for failure by not being timid or afraid to speak out and tell it like it is.

"see and tell the truth and hold those making huge salaries accountable for failure by not being timid or afraid to speak out and tell it like it is."

Completely agree, we just need the voices of disapproval to also go beyond the forum walls.

Thank for your tried and true support of all things UNT. Respect.

That money is likely not getting bigger because of fans (exemplified by dropping attendance across the board at football games), but by the school and donors who are learning you can now buy wins instead of working for them.

I don't mind if a player gets paid his fair share for usage of his value to drive revenue. It's the uncapped, uncontrolled, and uncompetitive amount they are playing ball for.

And funny enough people here are suggesting we go whole hog in on transfers while we sorely lack an large NIL collective and donors in general. And some of those people admittedly do not even donate to UNT! How would we keep up?

@TIgreen01 I'd certainly be up for testing the theory. I am not a huge giver by any means...I think there are something like 19 that can claim that. And that is the point. When there is only a few billionaires and millionaires, even they have an upper limit they can give. I bet they are praying other similar dollar givers to join them. Soon.

If I had my way, we would all post the amount of money we give to the program next to our (mostly) alias names. It wouldn't change our right to voice an opinion....just provide context as to the commitment of he who opines.

My point: The person who calls out "fire the coach" after that coach's first game is rarely the guy responsible for the million+ dollar buy out. I want to hear the opinions of the guys that are coming out of pocket.

(Caveat: I fully understand we all have different circumstances that affect what we give)

(Caveat 2: apologies to @UNTethered Eagle...just reading some of the other threads and it appears you already fought this battle)

    GMG

    I appreciate you for that.

It astonishing that some of our fans believe redacting financial support as a form of punishment to the school/team for poor performance will result in better....anything.

And I too understand we do not all have the same resources so if funds are not available to donate then keep a positive attitude. And if all that fails - tell somebody/do something. Otherwise in an effort maintain mental health they should find another hobby, or at least take a break.

(For those who care - I am an alumni of almost 20 years. And have long been on this board prior to ever creating an account and posting.)
