then end a game barely hanging on to a 44-41 win.

After the past 3 seasons, I'll take a 44-41 win every week.

May want to go with a guy with college defensive experience.

Coach Clark Lea at Vanderbilt and Jim Harbaugh at Michigan hired new DCs (Jesse Minter, 38 & Mike Mcdonald, 34) from the Baltimore Ravens back in January. We should do the same and give Zach his shot.

You obviously have a grasp of former (and current!) Mean Green coaches.   It also appears you know of former Mean Green players who are in the coaching realm.   That is fantastic, and I hope they all do well!

However, why would you willingly limit your coaching search to former Mean Green coaches/players?   Like, are these guys the only ones qualified to coach here in your opinion?

    How 'bout these other guys?
    Darrell Dickey!  -  OL!
    Freddie Kitchens!  -  TEs!
    Jeff Rodgers!   -  ST's!
    Mean Joe Greene!!!!!   - DL!
    Gio Vizza!  -  Outside WRs!
    Riley Dodge!  -  Inside WRs!
    Ryan Walters!  -  CBs!
    Marcus Trice!  -  Ss!

I mean, we could really put together a who's-who of Mean Green alumni!!!
We wouldn't win crap, but hey!  We'd really love our coaches!!!1!1!!

You're putting words in my mouth and you look like a 🤡 with all of your exclamation marks.

GH proved he could run our offense well and I have faith he would turn the program around.

Cobbs is a motivator, great RB coach and has been a bright spot in this dumpster fire.

Zach is a an up and coming NFL defensive coach who studied under one of the NFL's best defenses and has now coached under Harbaugh and Meyer. The talent is there and it's obvious, to some of us.

At our level, developing talent shouldn’t only happen with players.

If we did that, I don’t even want to see the meltdown on this board when we go 2-10 the first year

WHEN we go 2-10? Are you watching this season? Our only win is vs a FCS team. We're halfway there, bud.  The board is going to bitch and moan no matter what happens.

  4. I like your thinking. If I were Wren, I’d go with energy, excitement, and youth with our next coaching staff.

Bring back Graham Harrell as HC & Playcaller

Promote Patrick Cobbs to OC along with his RB coach duties. Allows him to learn under Harrell so that when GH leaves in 3+years, Cobbs is next in line for an interview.

Bring Zach Orr home and hire him as the next DC. His time playing and coaching D for the Baltimore Ravens would be an asset to this team. Knowing what he knows, I would love to see what he could do with our defense.

  5. Here’s what I would love to happen:

Bring back Graham Harrell as the new HC and play caller. We all saw the offensive dropoff after he left. Even Mason Fine wasn't the same after he left.

Promote Patrick Cobbs to OC and still oversee the running backs.

Steal Zach Orr from Urban Meyer & Jacksonville and hire him as the next DC. Zach spent YEARS playing in, and learning the Baltimore Ravens defense. The guy is smart, young, and would bring that Baltimore D aggression to UNT.

Why in the world would Littrell take a reduced buyout?  It maybe could be reworked to spread the dollars out, but that would probably take more dollars not less.

Coaches have agents,, and they are not going to allow even a dejected coach from taking less money.

I fully understand how agents work, I work with them all the time. When I say reduced buyout I'm talking about spreading the dollars out over multiple years.

Is it possible that Littrell might prefer just to be bought out at this point?  The longer he stays on this season, the more damage will be done to his coaching reputation.

Exactly. This is not a good look for either party. My hope is a reduced buyout they both can agree on.

The Big 12 commissioner said that they evaluated applicants with 75% emphasis on football, 25 % on basketball , with population being tie breaker. On a scale of 1 to 100 that puts us at a score of 25 and unless the AAC or MWC  is grading on an Alpine Mountain curve leaves us SOL. As someone pointed out, we bring nothing more to the table than SMU, and if truth be told we bring a lot less.

    Ouch. The truth hurts.

Unless the MWC wants to make a play for Texas schools, I don't see us going anywhere. I think the realistic and pragmatic play is to gain as much influence and power as possible inside CUSA, and remake it from within. First, get rid of Judy and bring in proven leadership to help consolidate the league footprint. Marshall and ODU are working their way out so let them leave - as well as a few other schools from CUSA East. Grab three regional teams from SBC and you can create a 12 team league with a tight geographic footprint. I think it's wise and works in our favor that UNT Prez Neal Smatresk recently became the new Board Chair of CUSA.
