Disney spent over a billion dollars to acquire a streaming service to use for ESPN+. Not the same as previous ESPN streaming services.

Disney has invested millions of dollars to have as much content on ESPN+ as possible. If you don’t remember ESPN was losing subscribers at an alarming rate causing Disney to shake up the company.
