I understand. But the dynamics in this scenario are a little different.

My focus is on this conference getting 3 bids and making deep runs so we get more tournament units. If FAU and Memphis lose in the conference tourney but get at-large bids, I want our AQ (hopefully us) to get a decent seed. No, we're not getting an at large barring the complete collapse of a good 5-10 bubble teams but our seed can still go up depending on our resume as the AQ, if we get it.

This is a quad 2 win that I wouldn't mind seeing turn into a quad 4 win. Realistically, we aren't getting an at-large. The committee has to make room for 14 loss SETHEE and Big10 teams. Nevertheless, the success of SMU has no measurable standard of continuing to develop and further grow the AAC basketball reputation as they are leaving. So, piss on them. If anything, commentators would comment on their struggles in the AAC last year in every TV broadcast they are on in the ACC next year. I'd much rather prefer that. On the contrary, commentators will comment next season how they were dominant in football last year while they lose 7 or so games, disparaging the AAC football reputation. They don't deserve a right of passage. They deserve to lose at everything at every turn.

That's all fine but you never want your best win to turn into a bad win. I guarantee you not a single ACC team that beats Duke or UNC wants them to have a complete collapse and go on a big losing streak.

are we that excited about Chandler Morris?

    an oft-injured/oft-replaced QB?

If we get 6 games out of him, I'll be happy. It will give others time to learn the playbook and get experience. Better than the alternative which is throwing a green QB out there day 1 and hoping for the best.

Had to watch it on tv and that might be the first time I can remember ESPN announcing being that pumped and excited about anything UNT sports related.  They were literally slobbering over us.  It’s about damn time.  Loved it.

Wish I could’ve been there in person…missed what looked like an epic atmosphere, and it absolutely came through on TV.

UNT alum was doing play-by-play on ESPN2. You know he had to be excited. He got to do his exact college job on national TV.

How many stopped breathing at the end of game when $mut launched that 3-ball?   Shouldn't have been that close.  More free throw practice for everyone tomorrow!!

For sure. Should have been a 10 point win but considering what they battled through this game, it's an incredible win. My Mavs would do well to watch North Texas to get a lesson on mental fortitude and fighting as a team.

  6. They're killing us in the paint, as I expected. I'd like for us to make them earn it at the line in the second half. Can't let them shoot 52% from the field on the second half. The best part about the first half? We have 5 total fouls which should allow our guys to play more physical when SMU gets the ball inside.

Its the last time SMU will ever play at UNT.  If the students want to rush the court let them have a good time.

Agree with this (although it's probably not the last time for OOC/tournaments).

I wouldn't rush the court but if the students want to, let them. Maybe they have fun, become more invested in the program, and keep coming back. Don't expect the kids coke to games when you won't let them have fun when they show up.

That's one of the "go to" phrases that's always annoyed in regards to college basketball (not even related to SMU).  It would be our National Title Game in that scenario, not Super Bowl. 🙂

I really would like to defeat the Mustangs, but it's not a bigger game than many others we've played in recent years.

I agree. Personally I viewed Charlotte as a bigger game simply because they beat us last year. UAB and Rice are others I'm looking forward to more than SMU for basketball reasons. This doesn't include the obvious big games against FAU, Memphis, and recent postseason games we've played. For local press, this is likely a big game though.

From all accounts, is that really what led their QB to transfer out? If it is, what a terrible outcome.

Yes, Finley left because they brought in De Laura. Finley is now at WKU but when it was found out that De Laura settled a civil suit regarding a sexual assault, Texas State students planned a protest. Apparently he acknowledged guilt as part of the settlement although his attorneys have said that's not true. Regardless, all a big mess.

    Try to keep up.

They are using SMU as a warning to the PAC-2 that they can't just elevate a gaggle of G5's and expect to get the CFP $$$ and autonomous status.  The legal argument for not giving SMU the CFP money is hilarious considering the Big 12 added BYU, Cincinnati, UH, and UCF last year and they received their shares.  The issue with SMU will get resolved without any issue which has been communicated both to SMU's administration as well as the ACC.

Its all about letting the other conferences know the last life raft from the G5 has been taken.

The last life raft was taken by those who joined the BIG12. SMU is being used as the example of that. Otherwise the legal argument for not giving SMU the P5 CFP share when they gave it to the new BIG12 schools extends to any other G5 school wanting to make the jump.

This is about sending a message to Wazzu/Oregon State that they can't just elevate a bunch of G5's and expect them to keep "P5" status and get the CFP $$$.  This has absolutely nothing to do with SMU and will be resolved accordingly.  Not the slightest bit concerned.

You clearly didn't read the article as about 80% of it is strictly about SMU and how receiving zero CFP payouts would affect SMU since your leaders believed they would receive that money to offset some of the lost revenue from receiving zero ACC media dollars. I'd copy and paste the SMU-related sections but so much of it is about SMU that it'd be reposting almost the entire article.
