  1. Worst loss in several years and Hodge took the blame for not calling time out but he got out coached all day. Hopefully he learns from this. Lowest point of the season. Will be interested in how this team and coaching staff respond.

Yeah, if Memphis decides they want to play, they're a problem.   I don't know if they'll flip that switch with a Championship on the line, or they may fold in the early rounds if they continue playing this half-hearted basketball they've been playing lately.
And yeah, a healthy UNT should worry every AAC team.

The only thing that may derail us in the tournament is having to play 4 games in 4 days. Hopefully with everyone back we will be able to go 9 deep and give some guys a little rest.

That is one heck of a coaching staff.  Blakely in his 70's necklace, Jimmy Gales and Billy Tubbs.

His teams were definitely fun to watch. About the complete opposite style of play then what we do now. That was probably the problem those teams had, they didn't play much defense but got up and down the court and scored a lot of points.

  4. They reported that he had an MRI and it was clear so no serious tear. Talked to an athletic trainer and he said probably 2-3 weeks for a strain. Not as long a recovery time as with a hamstring, so hopefully he should be able to be back in another week or two. He told me each injury is different and the player has to feel confident before they can go full speed again. They aren't going to rush him back.

    Upset?  Nah.
And you're right, there are a couple guys here that say something over-the-top out of frustration.  Those guys can be dismissed.   But for the most part, you and the rest of us are saying the same things, just in different ways.   That's all I am trying to point out.

It's all good. Let's get a win Thursday night!

You're taking the words of virtually every other poster here, and just moving them around to say the same thing.  But then you accuse us of "bashing" Stone.
He absolutely works hard.   All the guys do.
He's a great teammate. You'd better believe it... or he wouldn't be here/play.
Has a role on the team ("good defender and rebounder for his size").  Absolutely.  We all know he's not Allen Iverson out there.
He's being asked to do more than normal now, with Rubin & CJ out.  He's gotta step up.  No one is asking him to replicate Rubin or CJ's production point-for-point, but man...  26min... Give us something!
"He's a good 9th guy off the bench"... "5-8min/gm" -  Uh, buddy, YOU said that.  Stop bashing him!!

That isn't bashing the guy. That is saying he is a valuable role player. I don't get mad and complain about him every game when he doesn't score. BIG DIFFERENCE! Sorry I upset you. I should know better than to have a different view than some of you on this board. GMG

  7. People need to quit bashing Stone. He plays hard and does what the coaches ask of him. He's seems to be a great teammate. IMO he is playing more than he should because of injuries. He isn't the offensive threat we would like him to be for this team but is a good defender and rebounder for his size, when not overused. With a healthy Jones and Noland, he probably plays 5-8 minutes a game giving Scott and Walker a short rest. He's a good 9th guy off the bench. If he was hurting the team, Hodge wouldn't play him. I trust the coaching staff, we aren't at practice and don't know what goes on behind the scenes.

I am trying to think that way, but leaving the arena after each loss is still suuuuch a bummer.

Close loses really hurt but I don't think I could take getting blown out by Smut like we do in football. This team is far from perfect, but they play hard and are in a position to win every game.  It seems like every opponent has bigger, stronger athletes, but we find a way to play with them. A lot of that is playing style, defense, coaching and guts.

This is exactly my feelings too! Let's just try and get that 4th spot if we can.

We would probably have to win out to have a shot at the 4th seed. I don't see that happening. We just need to get healthy and try to get at least the 5th seed. That is possible. It would give us the highest seed left in the second round. Hopefully Rubin and CJ can play in the last couple of conference games in March to get back up to game speed.

I don't think we see either until March.

I think the plan will be for them to come back and play in the final 2-3 games before the tournament. If we don't get a top four spot and the double bye, we will have to win four in four days. We will need all hands on deck.

  11. Tulsa plays zero defense but can light it up offensively. It will be interesting to see how we play and if Moore and Cotton get any PT. Don't think Hodge plays them unless we are in foul trouble. Scott needs to have a bounce back game on the offensive end to take some pressure off Edwards. Buggs should get plenty of open looks.

It’s crazy to limit this team to only 6 or 8 useable players.  We can carry up to 15 on the roster.  If the bench guys are not worthy then replace them with new recruits.

I think it is probably pretty hard to fill out a roster when only 8-9 will ever see the court. Grant and now Hodge find guys that are high character and will bust their butt in practice everyday. From what I hear, their practices are brutal. I see guys on the end of the bench for Baylor, Houston, Duke, ect. that you never see in a game. Those guys are just glad to be there and probably aren't getting much if any NIL money. Hopefully some will develop into rotation players but some just aren't good enough but do their job at practice and don't complain. That is hard to find these days.

    Well... NIT? Consolation AAC ?

What's the goal now? I bleed Green as much as the rest, but I will be the realist every game.

3 straight loses, 2 at home. What's our goal?

Get healthy for the conference tournament and try to get as high a seed as possible. Top 4 get a double bye but that is going to be tough without our full roster.

We have potential to be really good, but we have some things we have to figure out.  Holding onto leads is one of them and breaking a press consistently is another one.

When healthy, we can beat anybody in our conference. Sadly, we have some weaknesses that can raise up and get us beat by anyone in the AAC. The real concern should be trying to get a top four seed and the double bye in the tournament. With the loss last night, that is going to be tough. We will probably have to go 8-2 the rest of the way and without Ruben and maybe Noland, that will be hard to do. Winning 3 in 3 days in Ft. Worth is doable, 4 in 4 with our short rotation/bench is a stretch. Still love this team but we need to get everyone back on the court.

We have got to figure out the press. Up 4 with 30 seconds to go. Never should have went to OT.

As much as I love Jason, add two more misses to his long list of failed dagger attempts this season. He is desperately trying to hit those daggers and I don't think a single one has dropped all year.

Once Ruben is back, we will be able to handle the press better. Only having one true ball handler hurts.

It was protecting the stitches in his mouth from last game

Hodge said Allen also had surgery on his teeth, two were knocked loose. Trainer said it was the worst cut lip he had ever seen and that Allen was the toughest kid he had been around.

  16. Visited the UAB fan board and love that they hate playing us and put us down for our slow down offense. I have grown to appreciate our style of play and the results that have followed. It seems to be the best way for us to be able to compete with the bigger budget programs. It would be great to have an up-tempo offense but we aren't able to get those kinds of players. I have come to acknowledge that the old saying "Defense travels" is true. We are able to play teams tough on the road because of our defense.

  17. I was at the Wichita State game and they did something I thought was pretty cool. Their fans stand up until the opponent scores their first basket. The season ticket holder sitting by me said that it used to be a really cool deal when they were selling out games a few years ago. We need something like that since we are such a strong defensive team. Just something to identify with what are team is known for. Go Mean Green!
