That is a great hire!!!!!
Now we'll get to see if he can recruit in Texas with his "old" Texas connections.
-
The way I read it, they can apply for a hardship waiver to avoid him losing a year of eligibility.
If he burned his red shirt, then he might be granted a 6th year to play 4 years.
It seems this replaced the immediate eligibility waiver.
Correct me if I'm wrong.

What would be a good recruiting class this year?
Forget stars and look at offers. A recruiting class with 100 D1 offers would be a good goal.
The 2015 recruiting class had just over 40 offers by other D1 schools.
Kevin Dillman had 14 of those.
Let's hope this staff can flip some recruits in the next few weeks.
-
Stars are one thing, but offers are another.
T J Henson shows 2 stars, but he had 9 offers from D1 schools.

How can anyone judge Littrell's ability to recruit?
High school recruiting is in a dead period from 12-14-15 until a week or so in Jan.
That basically means hands off.
As far as the number of stars, that is so misleading.
If UT recruits a player, he may jump up from no stars to three stars or from 3 stars to four stars.
Then UT ends up with a highly rated recruiting class that, in reality, is just not that good.

Any offense works if you have the right personnel running it.
The spread without a good QB is boring and can be down right embarrassing.
A pick 6 takes about 10 seconds.
Hopefully Littrell finds the right QB.
If he can't, next year could be another train wreck of a season.
-
If he starts to flip committed recruits from other FBS schools, I'll get excited.
Keep your fingers crossed.

Put him on Secretariat and he knows how to get to the winners circle.
Right now he's riding American Pharoah.

The HUDL video is awful. Watch his junior year at QB in California. Impressive,

A guy who got offered by alot of schools and our last grandpa of coach didn't think to have him with the QB's.
Offers from 17 schools.
To me the most interesting was Washington. He sounds like a Chris Pettersen stelth find.

I hope Littrell will take a hard look at Kevin Dillman with a fresh set of eyes.
There's a reason Dillman was so highly ranked nationally at QB in his junior year before he moved.
Because he transfered and couldn't play QB as a senior, he was never given the opportunity at QB here.
It will also be interesting to see what Littrell does with Caleb Chumley. Both are big and fast. Wildcat offense?

I'll be amazed if we aren't underwhelmed by how this ends up.

Of the names thrown around, what coaches would you fear the most if they suddenly showed up as head coaches of CUSA opponents?
Fritz, Withers, Babers, Thomsen, Applewhite, etc. ???
Will our new head coach send shivers up the collective spines of other CUSA coaches?

Somewhere there is a topic about being underwhelmed.
Applewhite even though Cumby is 5" taller.

Dodge was 20 years removed from that college experience when hired and we were I-AA at the time so it wasn't even I-A experience.
How about this one?
Candidate X is in his late 40s with 20yrs as a Texas high school coach and 4 Texas state titles and 3 years coaching at the FBS college level in Texas.
University Y hires Candidate X to take over a team that has gone 5-18 over the previous two seasons(sound familiar?). Candidate X ends up leading University Y to 4 bowl games in 5 years with one conference championship and a ten win season while only having one losing season in those 5 years. Candidate X is hired away by University Z.
University Y has gone bowling in 7 of the 9 years since Candidate X's departure. Prior to Candidate X's arrival the previous two coaches combined to win 28.6% of their games. Candidate X won 55% of his games and the two candidates after X won 62% of their games. Candidate X was a program changing hire and his name was Art Briles.
What?

I think comparisons are in order.
Jinks is in his early 40's with 17 yrs as a high school coach and one state title and 3 years coaching at the college level.
Withers is in his early 40's with 20 yrs as a high school coach and 4 state titles and 2 years coaching at the college level.
Oh, excuse me, I confused Withers with Dodge back in 2006. Withers has only coached at the college and NFL levels.
Never mind and carry on

Since this is about Jinks and Withers, it would be Withers by a mile.
He would probably bring some of his staff with him along with some of his better recruits.
He could hit the ground running.
Now picture the HC trying to close on a 4 star defensive back who asks "Why UNT when I want to get good enough to play in the NFL."
Would Jinks have the answer?
Withers is known to be a good recruiter who coached 7 years in the NFL.
Withers would say "Son I coached DBs in the NFL for years and I can show you how to get there."

Matt Viator isn't at the top of my list, but he is 10-0 and ranked #2 in the FCS.
He is 77-32 at McNeese State.
McNeese is the only undefeated team left in the FCS.
They were 0-0 in the LSU game when it was called off due to lightning.

Erick Evans was just named Adidas OVC newcomer of the week.
He had 111 yards rushing with 2 TDs and 57 yards receiving Saturday for Tennessee State.
As a freshman for UNT last year, he had 204 yards on 24 carries.
-
Fritz is a long shot and so is Babers, but either might be interested for the right money.
Withers and Thomsen might be more realistic good choices.
Fritz or Withers would be at the top of my list.
-
Withers team beat Villanova and is now 9-2.
He's a really good coach.
Some FBS team is going to hire him..
It just won't be UNT.
-
Withers is 52. Right now as a HC of James Madison, he has them at 8-2 and averaging 45.5 pts. per game and ranked 10th.

-
Hire a coach who has won as a HC at both FCS and FBS with no losing seasons and has several years of NFL coaching experience.
One who would probably take the job as it would double or triple his current salary.
The only HC to meet that criteria would be Everett Withers at James Madison.

Since we're talking about former QBs, let's not forget Steve Ramsey.
He was a 5th round pick with 7 pretty good years in the NFL.

Jamal Powell, his OL coach, was an all american at TCU in 2003 and played in the NFL for Tennessee and Houston.
Powell also coached for A&M.
Withers coached for Texas from 1998-2000.
Interesting tidbit, his OC threw for 61 TDs in one year in college and was signed by the Chargers.
