  1. And likely costs them at least twice as many. They are the most laughed-at and disrespected fan base in their conference, even moreso than A&M.

Let me guess....you like Philly Eagles fans too.

I don't think the 60,000 who pack their stadium in LUBBOCK think they're disrespected. I'd love to have a fan base like Tech.

There's a difference with Philly. That's crossing a line. Philly throws batteries at their own team.

  2. Wait, the guy that started this thread rushed the field when we beat Indiana, but is talking down on doing it for Monroe? Indiana is/was atrocious. There was no reason to rush it then either. But, who cares, as long as they're at the game and not tailgating with the frat boys on the hill, let them rush the damn field.

Big 10, first win at Apogee, first win under Mac, first home win in 8 games, there was more than enough reasons to rush then.

  3. I was right next to the Talons, and they were stupid as hell. One guy came up and tried to explain football because we kept heckling their punter saying "You're not gonna get in the game". No one heckled, they didn't cheer, and sat down. Stupid.

  4. None of us parents expect you to understand how we cringe when F-bombs or other curse words are yelled out, you are in college with no kids. We were once in college with no kids and heard the same things.

The student section is awesome with it's intensity and energy. It just does not benefit anyone to ruin the fight song with curse words. Be as loud as you want and that is certainly encouraged...just please represent your University in a positive manner.

Of course everyone tends to think Ohio State is a trashy, horrible fan base; and the Aggies. I could care less what Nebraska does, Nebraska fans suck. Look, you're gonna have to accept it, if we get big, the fans at a crowd aren't going to be polite, good-mannered fans.

I was taken to a Browns game when I was 7, and I'm sorry, sheltering your kids from what's out there is just dumb. I'm not going to get into a parenting discussion, but I was brought up where cursing was taught that it wasn't something you'd every time because it's trashy, but was brought up around and it and accept it. I'll curse up a storm all I want at UNT games.

Say what you want, I've been to Ohio State and Cleveland Browns games; two of the best football atmospheres, and there was plenty of cursing. I'd love to replicate that atmosphere here.

Buffoonery won Tech plenty of fans, which at this point, is all I want.

  5. You must be proud. It's sportsmanship at its best. (sarcasm) And we wonder why we have no friends.

Taunting often works against you rather than for you. If it gets to you your response will be to go out and knock the crap out of your opponent.

God, I hate our fan base sometimes. Seriously. I have never seen a more uptight group of out of touch "football fans". Why don't we golf clap when we score a TD? I bet you found it outrageous that our band played over their fight song and finished their chant.

If we don't have a typical FBS atmosphere, we won't have attendance. Guarantee you McCarney and Villareal like what WE do, and not what YOU do.

  6. Well, ours used to be. Just because everyone else does it (I am not convinced they do) doesn't mean we should. Show you are educated and use a vocabulary of more than a handful of four letter words.

Does being family friendly put you on the level of being one of the toughest places in football to play at? NO! I've been to Ohio State games. All of which have furious cursing and are brutal and INCREDIBLE atmosphere. I'm not going to get into this, call it trashy, call it classless, all I know is Nice Guys Finish Last. Ohio State=rings UT=rings. Fan base curses up a storm at the games and is pretty much violent. This is my point. I'll keep cursing up a storm and leading the student section in chants with cursing in them.

I would be unbelievably pissed off if UNT games were quiet and "family friendly". Why don't we just golf clap? It'd be the same difference.

  7. And, in reference to your chants in another thread, yelling f'bombs is is not "moronic and.....belittling to our program" - but rushing the field is?

    Gimme a break!

Have you ever been to a UT game? Or an A&M game? Cursing, brutal fans and no rushing the field.

  8. Negative...there are alot of kids in the stadium. I cringe when the students do it next to us at the basketball games, and I wish it would stop.

    Please.

What college games have you been to that are "family friendly"?

At every college game I've been to, I've heard upwards of 50+ curse words during the game. We're right on pace.

  9. :thumbsu:

I don't get it either. If Coach Mac encourages this behavior (and he's coached in the B-12 and the SEC) than I say.....be sure and wear comfortable shoes to the game, that gives you good traction on artificial turf.

Good point. Look, I'm just cool, excited that we've got a good fan base this year.

  10. This topic again? It's bordering on obsessive. Why does anyone care *where* someone else doesn't attend the game? Would it be better if they didn't attend the game back in their dorm rooms, apartments or frat houses? Maybe they aren't sports fans or hate football. What about all the students that leave Denton every weekend to go back to mom and dad's house? At least these individuals are coming out of their caves and participating. That is huge IMHO.

Step 1 - Build awareness and some semblence of school pride.

Step 2 - Get or keep students on campus and get them close to the stadium so they can experience the game day festivities and reinforce that budding school pride.

Step 3 - Get them in the stadium.

Step 4 - Fill the stadium.

Step 5 - Feel sorry for all those that *have* to hang out on the hill during the game because that's as close as they can get.

    We're at about step 1.5.

    Keith

The school pride is building...huge...this year.

  11. I want to see the whole stadium filled with rabid NT fans. My point is that it really does no good to complain about the alumni attendance on this board. We're the ones that are showing up, LOL. It's several on the board that do that. It kills me that I don't get to stand the whole game like I did at Fouts. If we can get small groups of students to go sit in pockets on the alumni side and help get them to start cheering. It will take time, but I have noticed more and more of them standing and cheering at certain points of the game.

Don't get me wrong, I got nothing against y'all! Y'all paved the way for the students and this stadium. I'm just so disappointed with the "meh" vibe I get from a good majority of the alumni side.

  12. The ones that do show up do cheer. Maybe they don't stand up, but it will take time to change that. I'm not saying buy tickets for the alumni side. I'm saying take your happy ass over there and cheer and help get them excited. I know the players sure loved the whose house chant that came from the alumni side at the end of the game.

That's actually a pretty good idea. At least for a few plays.

  13. People complaining about enthusiastic fans rushing the field after a win? Are you kidding me? You must be the remnants and/or sons and daughters of the old North Texas fans that sat on the alumni side at Fouts and acknowledged great plays with "tennis applause"......and complained when someone stood up more than a few seconds during a game.

No, not at all, in fact, I'm one of the most vicious fans in the student section. But rushing the field makes us look like a high school.

  14. I am tired as hell of hearing many of you slam the Aumni side. True it could be better, but it has been pointed out many times what we are trying to change over there. All of you who are bitching had better be buying tickets on the home side when you graduate.

Until then, since there are so many on the student side, why don't you walk over to the almumni side and sit with us. We could use the added manpower since our numbers are sooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooooo horiffic.

Hell no I won't be buying tickets on the alumni side. Not that your numbers are horrific, but the fans could obviously give a damn on the alumni side.

  15. Now HERE is an great tradition to build on.

FAU game we kept "reeling them in", and ULM it was also pretty ridiculous. I'm keeping the heckling going, it's quite amusing. I can't think of many other college football teams who are, first off, as close as we are to them, but also, as vicious as we are. It's pretty much a home field advantage to make up for lack of attendance. Student section is just making Apogee loud and angry at visitors.

  16. Sorry...I just don't agree. I don't like that folks stay outside anymore than anyone else does, BUT they do add to the pre-game atmosphere that will help, over the long run, build a tradition of a great tailgate atmosphere. The word will spread, more will come to enjoy the festivities of a Saturday Mean green game, and more will find their way into the stadium If you send the cops out to close it down, they will just stop coming altogether and then you have ZERO chance that some may decide to start making the game a part of the deal.

I am as frustrated as others about these folks, but to send the cops in would do no one any good at all, and I think, much more harm than any perceived good. They do close down the "authorized" tailgate events...

To be honest, I don't want the Frats on the hill. I'd love to see them be forced out.

  17. DT said in the postgame that Canales took the chains off him this week and they went into the game with a plan to throw the ball. Frustrating it took 6 weeks to try throwing the ball, but better late than never. I'm a harsh critic of DT, but he played great last night. I hope we stick with the pass first offense because we don't have the oline to be a run first team.

I'll buy into the "turned a corner" idea when we win on the road or win two in-a-row.

If they call the game and play DT like they did yesterday, we've turned the corner.

  18. I've heard several stories about our students heckling the visiting players and fans. I think its great. I hope we can continue to make Apogee a place where teams hate to play, the more distracted they are the better. Has anyone heard any other stories about our students getting in people's heads? I have heard/read about the irate FAU player and the ULM mascot throwing water on our fans.

Yup, I'm on the 50 on the student section. Our Super Pit is notorious for heckling the visitor bench, we could never do this at Fouts. So, yeah, we've been ABSOLUTELY BRUTAL to the Visitors. They are not going to want to play here, I guarantee you most other stadiums other than some one like Tech or A&M aren't as vicious as we've been the past few games. I love this new tradition. No one will want to play here.

  19. You guys crack me up. First, you blame the Greeks for not coming in since they don't have flasks and would rather drink, ten later in the week you all start a thread about how you wish they sold beer in the stadium.

Then we've got Green Meaner stating all frats are "douchersm". Nice. Do you know any personally, because many of the season ticket/ Mean Green Club members I know were in fraternities while in school. Don't be so fast with the labels.

There was this frat blasting music you could hear inside Apogee who were doing beer bongs.

  20. Hey, don't y'all start bitching at me, seriously. I was celebrating the win, totally. I'm just not on board with this whole "rush the field every game" thing. Doesn't make me not a fan, or worried about image, in a way. I just don't like this idea or burgeoning tradition. This is the best kind of post-game argument.
