  1. You know it must really suck to be UTSA.  First, they have a used car salesman as a head coach that is the biggest conman in college football.  Secondly, they play in a rented stadium that is 20 miles away from their shitty campus.  Their basketball team plays in a high school gym and is an embarrassment to the AAC.  Traylor has been so lucky with Frank Harris, a guy he didn't even recruit.

I love that you singled out a flop in this class

Singled out a flop?  The #1 recruit in the class and they crowed about it and let everyone get their hopes up knowing he would never qualify the entire time and then waited until almost the 1st game to sheepishly let everyone know he didn;t have his grades.  Sorry Charley, but you really need to stop polishing a turd.

I wonder if any other school in the nation......has a head football coach AND a head basketball coach, who both made their teams....as walk-ons?

Grant has treated walk-ons well in his tenure....giving scholarships to both DJ and JJ.

As to Eric.....shouldn't say this....but some of the walk-ons he's bringing in.....impress me more than some of Littrell's signees.

I am not aware of any.   I would put this class up against anything Littrell ever did.

We were saying the same things on SL's first signing day:

Looking forward to finding out who of this year's class is going to be the next Mason Fine, LaDarius Hamilton, EJ Ejiya, Rico Bussey, Khairi Muhammad, etc...   That was a pretty special class!

You are joking right?  Littrell had way more time to recruit that class, and half those recruits never played a down.  The top recruit of the class William Johnson was ineligible for grades at his time of signing and they kept that from the fanbase until two weeks after the season started.  There were some good players out of the class for sure and Mason Fine was his biggest recruit, but he had absolutely no competition for Fine and Graham Harrell was the one who found Fine.

Based on the early results in such a short time, if this recruiting staff stays together somewhat, will  UNT sign a 4* on the next class? Or, in the NIL era is this almost undoable?

I think so.  You are right, the chances of the entire staff staying intact is 0% but they will replace it with similar.  They are just too good.  I think the next class will be off the charts good.  They are finally utilizing all of the potential we have had in terms of location and facilities.  I also think the AAC is a big plus now as well.

Eagle83.  That idea has been discussed.  Having a practice facility in Denton and playing at the RoughRiders stadium the first few years is absolutely an intriguing idea.  We have also been approached by minor league operations who have an interest in discussing building a stadium.  Our group is committed to helping get this athletic center built and then we think baseball should be next.  The interest from the DFW baseball world has been outstanding and we feel we have an administration that wants baseball to happen sooner rather than later now.  Both Danny Suges and Kevin Mckinney will be at the Kiwanis breakfast and both of these guys are absolutely committed to the cause and are studs.

Thanks for all you are doing to bring baseball back @Doug Rush

I was impressed by his run blocking. He is not afraid to get in a 3 point stance and block down on a LB or DE. I liked the effort he was giving on runs that were several yards down field. He was still sprinting downfield looking to make a block. His pass blocking was not bad against the small DEs he was facing. I imagine he will need a year in the weight room to add strength for blocking FBS DL. Overall, I think he has a lot of potential. This is a good pickup for 2-3 years down the road.

One other note, the RB he was opening up holes for is a highly ranked prospect in 24.  Bryan Jackson, averaged 128 yards a game and 2 TDs. I see his top 6 schools are OU, Michigan, UT, USC, Tennessee, and Baylor. We recently offered Bryan as well.

    Good break down and analysis

This is still a revisionist lens. He and the staff averaged a top three class in CUSA even walked away with a #1. Whether the staff developed or held onto that talent is a separate debate. But we have 2 NFL receivers and a slew of all-conference guys. Improvements to O-line. I'm excited about the future here, but come on just because it didn't pan out with Litrell doesn't mean him and the staff didn't have their merit.

When it comes to Morris, like in the case of say... Darden, some of these offers have dried up UTSA has an almost full class, most of their recruiting was done before the ESP. We will get a gauge of the reality of where we stand next cycle. Some of these recruits would have been picked apart by the same for only having one other off or only the service academies, etc.

It's an exciting time but the results are far from in, and it's just a bias against Litrell and what he accomplished. Even Morris stated this isn't an empty cupboard and spent a lot of time recruiting the guys he had already on campus. That's not necessary if Litrell was as bad at recruiting as you all seem to think he was. Let the roster walk and bring in your own guys then. Both things can't be true.

Dude I like you and usually your posts, but I am calling bullshit on this one.  If what you said is true and Littrell was setting the world on fire with his recruiting, why in the F did we have 8 QB's on the roster, none of which could play?  Why did UTSA curb stomp us in recruiting year in year out, starting with landing Frank Harris who we all know and will know again this coming season?  I guess UTSA was just that much better than us with all of their facilities?  I won't say Littrell's recruiting sucked but he certainly did not take advantage of many tools he was given like the indoor practice facility?

Also on that note, if another poster comes on here defending Littrell's recruiting versus past coaching staff I think I will throw up.  Littrell had WAY better facilities and conference etc to sell.  Way better.  He did enough to get by and that is basically it and to say otherwise if revisionist.   The man did not win one conference championship in 8 years and C-USA is not the SEC.

  10. DENTON — The North Texas men’s basketball team, which features one of the nation’s best defenses, battled to a 52-42 win over UTEP Saturday afternoon at the Super Pit.

Seniors Tylor Perry and Kai Huntsberry once again made clutch baskets late to lead UNT to its third straight victory. The Mean Green backcourt combined for 30 points on 10-of-20 shooting. They scored eight of North Texas’ final 10 points in the final four minutes of the game and didn’t miss a shot attempt.

“Our ability to handle their pressure and not turn the ball over was the difference in the game,” said head coach Grant McCasland. “We knew going in (UTEP) was a team that scores a lot off turnover, and I thought that was the big flip.”

UNT (18-5, 9-3) committed a season-low seven total turnovers Saturday, which the Miners (11-10, 4-6) scored only six points off. On the other side, the Mean Green forced 17 turnovers and scored 17 points off them.

North Texas entered Saturday giving up only 55.3 points per game that, which ranked third-best in the nation. The 42 points they held UTEP to on Saturday is the fewest points an opponent has scored on them all year, though, the fourth time this season they’ve held a team under 50. UTEP was averaging nearly 70 points a game prior to Saturday.

“We were able to manage the game (late),” McCasland said. “We felt that if we could make simple plays and pass it to the open guy and not do too much that it would be the difference.”

Leading up to Saturday’s game, UNT was the only team in the 11-team league who had not had a bye yet. They finally get that day off as they don’t play again until Saturday. They’re at Rice next week. The game is scheduled to tipoff at 7 p.m. CT and will be broadcast on ESPN+ and the Mean Green Sports Network, presented by Learfield.

UNT is the nation’s best road team by win percentage since the start of last year.

He has essentially been a liability on offense and mediocre on defense. The problem is, we don't have a good replacement (which says a lot) and that is honestly the problem in hanging with really good teams.

Dude I like your posts usually, but I gotta call bullshit on this one.  Ousmane is the reason we are so dangerous in G5.  He is a P5 level post.

  12. This is a little bit of a rant so bear with me on my soapbox if you will.

Not sure what he is up to or if he would  be interested, but I think we should create a full time positon for Mean Joe similar to what UT does with Vince Young in Austin.  Mean Joe should have a restaurant names after him in Denton and he should be at all or most of the games with his NFL Hall of Fame jacket on and his superbowl rings shining brightly.  This guy is such a jewel for North Texas and we owe it to him to provide him this opportunity and it would be stupid for us not to utilize his fame and recognition in his twilight years.  Boxer Jake LaMotta and singer Frank Sinatra had similar roles for entertainment establishments.
