  1. Well, me and my stepdad are going to be there, but he's a UT alum, and we are going to be sitting on the UT home side, so really all I'm contributing is one really belligerent UNT fan that might get drowned in a sea of orange..... :/

I had a really great time last year doing the same thing in Athens sitting with my brother-in-law Georgia alum. Standing up and yelling when Brelan returned that kick for a touchdown and watching everyone stare at me will always be an awesome memory for me.

More on topic, I will be there +1 in Austin--sticking to the green section this time, though.

  2. Did you get your pic with Romo or Garrett ?

No, I was up in the rafters, but I did capture a somewhat amusing moment involving them. This group of girls wanted their picture taken with Romo, so one of them handed her phone to Jason Garrett and apparently asked him to take their picture. I was like, you seriously asked the head coach of the Dallas Cowboys to take a group photo OF--not WITH--you. :) Sorry for the poor photo quality (but I was about 3/4 of a mile away).

  3. I spent last night watching SMU blast past Temple at Moody. Not once did I clap during the game (can't bring myself to support SMU in anything), but it was still more fun than the beat down going to games in Denton has become. I did, however, keep my ESPN app open to keep an eye on the NT/Rice score. I guess I just can't force myself to not still be interested, but enough already. It is so beyond time to make the change.

  4. I think a lot of what would weigh on my mind if I were deciding on the sentence would be that the person killed also made a conscious decision to place himself in danger by getting into that car. If it were an innocent bystander, I'm sure I would feel differently. Not that one life is more valuable than the other, but when assessing the sentence, whether it should be a part of the equation or not, it would factor in mine. Either way, the wrongful act is not the result--killing someone or simply pulling home safely in the driveway--it is the decision of driving while intoxicated in the first place. That is the behavior that has to be remedied. People getting off too easily when they don't happen to kill someone is as big of a part of the problem as anything.

  5. New post:

Council Member Medrano had the honor to present his Alma Mater University of North Texas Special Recognition for their victorious win over UNLV at the 1st Annual Heart of Dallas Bowl. There to receive Special Recognition was Mr. Rick Villarreal - UNT Athletics Director, Mr. Lee Jackson - UNT System Chancellor and Ms. Cynthia Hall, UNT System Director External Relations.

This was the city council member with whom I had corresponded about the Omni and other lights.

  7. For a refresher and perspective on how far things have come in such a short amount of time:

    ESPN Bottom 10 from September 21, 2011

#6 - North Texas - (0-3): Reach out and touch someone (AT&T)": The not-so-Mean Green allowed 586 yards of offense in last week's 41-0 loss at Alabama and rank last among FBS teams in total defense, allowing 559 yards per game.

  8. If you look right now at the online DMN and go to Sports > Colleges > North Texas Mean Green, the first thing that shows up is the "Best in Texas" poll from September 29th. Every other school in that section has recent entries. I get that A.H. Belo Corp. defers most of its UNT coverage to the DRC, but really? Why the heck do they even have a listing for UNT if nothing is updated. If I didn't know anything about UNT and happend to be browsing the sports section online, I would have absolutely no clue about any current UNT sports.

  9. It's not a rule. It's a law. It's called criminal trespass. When violating that and, and then running from police attempting to detain you, you then commit a separate crime of evading arrest or detention.

See: sec. 30.05 Texas Penal Code (Criminal Trespass) and sec. 38.03 Texas Penal Code (Resisting Arrest, Search, or Transport) and sec. 38.04 (Evading Arrest or Detention). . . .

It is really both, isn't it? One would be both violating a rule of the stadium that prohibits the license holder from being on the field rather than in an area of the stadium for which the ticket granted access and also be subject to criminal trespass for going into an area of the property for which he or she did not have consent? It didn't really look like they were interested in pursuing criminal charges against anyone for running onto the field but simply enforcing their rules and moving them back to the stands.

Either way, we both do agree it is wrong to violate the rule or law (or both), and anyone who does so should be willing to face the consequences of that act. Still, it was kind of fun watching those who did make it onto the field, and some of the players themselves were encouraging it to happen before the game was over. "Hey, y'all come party on the field with us after the game."
