  1. We are at a standoff. The beauty of a spreadsheet is varying one cell and immediately seeing the result. So even though the precise data is not available you can see the bottomline effect to see the relative importance. But you are not interested in looking at the bottom line.

I am sure the athletic dept looks at it and uses it to make the decision. Funding the dept is important, everyone's job depend on it, continued existence of each sport depends on it. Case in point is the UNT finance dept problem that affected all departments at UNT.

  2. I tell you what, when you provide me with a sheet that shows what every P5 school expects in a 1 and 1 deal, I'll get back to you.

But you can't. You know why? Because these things are NEGOTIABLE. And that is something we have been terrible at for a very long time. The proof is in the results.

But keep on demanding things that simply aren't available.

  3. Terrible, horrible, the world will come to an end in 2015. You still haven't shown me the facts and data. Hate to pull you back to that but I insist. Yes, the fact is we have 5 home games. Agreed. But show me the bigger picture of the athletic dept budget with the current 2015 five game schedule and the proposed home and home series with whoever.

  4. I prefer to deal in facts and hard data especially in decisions involving money. Maybe someone who likes spreadsheets could create one and put in some data. Then look at various scenarios.

Or would you prefer not to be confused with facts and data.

Just because someone else did or did not do something is not justification for you to do the same. You must understand their situation and use it as a guide in your decision process. Their situation is not identical to yours. Use your facts and perhaps your outcomeay be different.

  5. Let's understand the financial side of a home and home series. First, the home team keeps all the ticket and concession money. Second, the visiting tram receives a modest fee subject to negotiations. So if say Oklahoma visits North Texas they would receive something along the lines of the cost of the bus trip, meals and accommodations and. North Texas gets the money from ticket sales and concessions. Perhaps, some money for TV rights, etc.

Of course, then similarly when we visit Oklahoma.

Compare that income to body bag game income for a onetime visit to Oklahoma.

If you are responsible for the budget of the North Texas Athletic Dept then do you schedule home and home series once a year, twice a year or for all OOC games? Now answer that question if you are the Oklahoma AD.

  6. OMG, no change to the helmet(s). The world is coming to and end. We all are gonna die. The big bang is gonna look like a firecracker compared to what is in store for us. The worst plague will sweep through and everyone will suffer horribly before dying. All because the absolute ugliest helmut ever is NOT going to change. And it is the fault of the North Texas Athletic department. Woe is us. Good bye to y'all. And to think the upcoming football season has so much promise, season ticket sales were poised to reach new heights, this seasons cheerleaders were gonna be the best ever, the band would sound better than ever before, etc. Jeesh people, get a grip.

  7. A bunch of goll dern wimmin talking about clothing for men playing a violent game. Worrying about " accent" colors and "branding" and "logos" like it makes a difference when a 305 pound defensive lineman meets a 195 pound back carrying the pigskin. "I just love how the green in your jersey brings out the green in your eyes" said the lineman. To which the ball carrier replied "that logo on your helmet is so tastefully accented in sky blue".

  8. UTSA uses San Antonio as a nice lure for these other schools to get in front of Texas recruits and providing the visiting fans with a great destination for a weekend. Plus, the Alamodome is big enough to hold large crowds. And, lastly, the Alamo Bowl committe has strong ties with the folks in the Big 12, Big Ten, and Pac-12. That helps them to get big names opponents to play UTSA in San Antonio. Its something we don't want to bring up, but its one of the major advantages that UTSA will always have on us.

The Southern Big 12 teams and Texas A&M already play in the Metroplex, at least once every two years. Some will play here twice in a year (OU, UT, Baylor, Tech). SMU gets those schools their DFW OOC exposure. The Big Ten teams that will come down here to Denton to play would be so much better off for the recruiting exposure it would bring, but it hasn't happened yet, which is very surprising to me. I still think a school like OSU would come here as a part of a series. I think Kansas, K-State, Iowa State, Nebraska, Colorado, and Mizzou would too. But, as UNT90 put it, we don't have any wiggle room. We have SMU and Army for a long time ahead and then still play one bodybag game. That just doesn't leave you any place to sign a new deal with someone for an even series. We will either have 5 game home schedules or 6 games at home with a game against an Idaho or Texas Southern team. Not much you can do about it, with SMU and Army already in the mix for a long time in the future.

The Big 10 starts playing a 9 game in-conference schedule in 2016 leaving only 3 games for OOC. It will be difficult to schedule any near term games with the Big 10. I believe the SEC has voted to stay with an 8 game in-conference schedule. I can't speak for the PAC-12 or the Big 12 or the ACC.

  9. UTSA is playing better than expected to this point. But given that their football is relatively new (3 years?), their depth is a concern for them. If the injury bug bites them before we play them November 23rd, the lack of depth could really hurt their record whereas we have more depth and can adjust to injuries with qualified replacements.

  10. My impression of Brelan's last punt return was he was "possessed". He absolutely refused to go down, refused to quit and actually seemed to run harder as the return played out. He used his blockers very well and made cuts to the open. If he does that for every return and kickoff, we will see TDs. Comments?
