  1. how was there overmanaging???? they had a 2 run lead going into the 9th and you bring in your closer...that's what is supposed to happen.

maybe, he should have taken francisco out when the lead was down to 1 with runners on, but he is your closer....THAT'S WHAT HE IS PAID TO DO!!!!

i've got no issues with washington's managing in this game....francisco just lost it.

The 9th is all on Frankie not getting his butt warmed up properly. He comes in throwing a fat, lazy 91 mph fastball in the middle of the plate to Ortiz. The 9th is all on Frankie. However, once again Ron blew it by bringing Eddie into a key situation. Eddie must have dirty pictures of Ron. That's the only thing I can think of.

  2. The scoreboard above that section is my biggest question. I don't think it'll wind up being wing shaped like the stands. It'll probably be a traditional rectangle to accomdate lots of advertising.

  3. First, I'll preface my comment by saying this all gets solved with a true playoff where all conference champions get a spot.

    Now...

Yes, any team that goes 12-0 should get a BCS bid. But, if North Texas goes 12-0 they will not get one. You have to be ranked in the top 12 to get a BCS berth, and the media and coaches polls will NEVER do that to a Sun Belt team.

If NT goes 12-0 in 2011 when we have three big away games then it would be possible.

  4. I was a senior at PESH the first year PESH ever beat PSHS. Good times indeed.

So was my sister. That was a great game with the late, big pass to get near the goalline and the out pattern for the win.

  5. Plano East Senior High - Black and Gold

Let's see ... most folks remember the wild playoff game with John Tyler in 1994.

My senior year we lost to Jesse Armstead/grade scandle Dallas Carter team in the first round 21-7 after being tied at 7 with four minutes left.

My favorite memory ... again from my senior year ... beating Plano Wildcats 26-0. Good times! :)

  6. I'd say leave the NFL OT alone. You want both teams to have an equal chance to win in OT? If the coin flip winner wins the majority of the time then what's more equal than a coin flip? :)

Seriously, let's look at some stats I googled. "From the 2000 through 2007 regular seasons, there have been 124 overtime games. In every single game except one (I believe), the team that won the toss elected to receive. And those receiving teams won 60% of the time (and tied once). The dreaded 'lose-the-coin-toss-never-touch-the-ball' scenario happened in 37 out of the 124 OT periods, or about 30% of all overtime games."

Stated another way, in 70% of overtime games since 2000 each team had at least one position. What's the problem with that? The purpose of OT shouldn't be to start all over and play another game (as some college OT's seem to turn into). Both teams had ample opportunity for 60 minutes to win the game and OT is merely an extension of the regular time. If a team loses in OT without touching the ball then that means they failed to win the game in regular time, and either their special teams and/or their defense failed to do their job in OT. However, 30% is an awfully small percentage to be spending so much time discussing or worrying about.

In my opinion the NFL OT is perfectly fair to both teams. If you believe it isn't fair then you need to stop talking about extending OT and start talking about playing every game at netural sites. The advantage for the home team in the NFL is about double that of the advantage of the OT coin flip.

  7. The writer is correct. The best thing the NCAA can do is ignore the bowls. Setup your playoffs and if the bowls want to be a apart they can come to the NCAA and beg. The NCAA once threw their weight around to start the basketball tourney and ignore the NIT. They can do it again and make this world a better place for our kids and our kids' kids. This playoff idea is exactly the kind I've been wanting.

  8. These schools also get a state stipend from oil revenues. Changing the stipend would require a change to the Texas Constitution. I don't quite remember what it takes to amend the State Constitution.... but i remember it being outrageous.

Actually it's not that difficult to change. In fact, the Texas Constitution is such a poor document that almost anything done requires a constitutional amendment. The bigger problem would be getting all the UT and ATM alums in congress to even think about those revenue.

  9. I'm now sure Vitto reads this message board. He's determined to tick off the UNT faithful by working in 2-10 into every story he writes. I can just see it now ...

Vitto is writing a story about UNT's enrollment ... "and UNT is expecting to have record enrollment in the fall which is surprising considering the football team had a very disappointing 2-10 season last year." Or ... "UNT is looking forward to getting the law school started which is surprising considering the football team had a very disappointing 2-10 season last year."

I can see Vitto's tombstone ... "Husband, father, and beat writer for the disappointing 2-10, 2007 North Texas football team."

Geez ... and some wonder why Dodge doesn't seem to like this guy.
