  1. Those "Beat Texas" shirts they made and wore in force last Saturday around the metroplex must really feel awesome right now. They better get their head right for SMU - or not? Crap, who do you even root for?

In a situation like this, you can't really pick a side. So this time, I root for methicillin-resistant Staphylococcus aureus.

I know there's a stringent policy here now, but I think that for this game, everyone in GMG.com nation should cheer for 'Cocc.

(NOTE: I realize a guy died, and I am very sorry for him and his family. But how often can I make reference to 'Cocc in the locker room? Cut me some slack. Thoughts and prayers as hard as I can, I promise.)

  2. Where's TTG when you need him?

Me? What am I needed for? Inappropriate humor? Greek indignation?

I'm a little busy this week with work and a trip to a friend's wedding this weekend. First time I've checked the board in 2 days.

Next time, use the GreekSignal. It's the giant spotlight atop Fouts Field that fills the sky with a Gyro shaped outline.

  3. we were wondering that too especially when we ordered our tickets very early, the ticket office needs to wake-up

It appears that 125 and 225 are season ticket holder allotments non-student tickets, and 126 is for the $10 student tickets. They were probably distributed from 2 different piles.

  4. Why did the Cowboys leave second string corners out in man-to-man against other teams receivers most of the pre-season? It was a combination of working to improve and see what they had and being under-talented at the position. Dodge used the game to assess the team against top flight competition to see who would respond and hopefully he learned something for the rest of the year.

As much as it might hurt some of you to admit it, that was not an attempt to win a game. Because that game could be played 100 times and the outcome would be about the same. We experimented - and hopefully we learned. Just don't kill yourselves if we lose this weekend.

Well, some of you can I guess. Although death is never pleasant.

But... But.... I thought we Didn't Go There To Lose!?!?

I'm packing up my desk and leaving.

  5. I know that 79-10 was horrible, but consider which is the bigger disappointment:

Getting blown out in record fashion by team that will contend for the national title, on the road, to start a season in which you are installing new coaches, a new offense, and a new defense

    OR

Getting blown out by a team you really thought you could beat, at home, to start a season in which you have the pieces in place and fully expect to go to a bowl game

    Pretty miserable choice either way.

Willis is still in, and got picked again.

    Now 49-9. Very empty stadium.

This could be their Tulsa game.

  6. NT vs OU Thoughts

Now everyone should know why DD's defense played so soft at the corners.

I don't think I have ever seen anyone as overmatched as NT's corners against those OU receivers.

NT stopped the runs up the middle, now to work on the pass and outside runs.

Those critical of Meager should have to suit up against OU next time.

Cox played a good game on special teams.

NT fans should lay off Utah State. (Likewise every other team in the NCAA)

Those that think that NT's poor defense was just a function of lack of talent should reconsider.

That extra 5 yards on kickoffs did not seem to bother OU.

    Fitzgerald is the real deal.

Those that think OU ran up the score, grow up.

This was a horrible defeat, I don't care how you spin it.

What would the score have been if the team, in TD's termonology, turned colors?

TD and staff were taught a lesson they will learn from.

The game was all a plot to get SMU overconfident.

As hard as it is to believe, according to the TV announcers "team speed" was a factor.

I don't like the new uniforms

I agree with every single thing on this list, to one degree or another. I even agree that Meager deserves a break... he struggled and made some mistakes, but though he has a lot of work still to do, this was not as discouraging as the Meager of old. I'm not on board with him yet, but I was glad to hear Dodge say in the post-game that he plans to start Meager next week. That's something that I never thought I would be happy to hear, but I do think the guy handled himself better than I expected against OU.

I'd give the corners a little bit of a break... I think Roman just had a terrible game and will hopefully grow and bounce back from the experience. And I think that the uniforms aren't perfect... but at least they're not something worse. I would be willing, even happy to accept the uniforms as-is if it came with a binding guarantee that I wouldn't have to see any discussion of them for at least 24 months.

And I think you're joking about this being a plot to make SMU overconfident... though I do hope they get run down and worn out on Monday, then think they have an easy game ahead of them because of our score. It'll make it that much easier to get the win I expect in their house.

    Great post.

  7. Obviosuly coachs who were QB's are always going to be right. Like Flanigan. Or Dickey.

Please, please don't leave. Carribbean Green has been pushed over the edge. Quoner has been neutered.

We need you, MGE. Stick around. Fight the good fight.

  8. I KNOW THAT ALOT OF PEOPLE ON THIS MESSAGE BOARD DID NOT LIKE DICKEY, BUT DID ANY OF HIS TEAMS LOOK THIS BAD IN ANY GAME. AND HE DID WIN 4 CHAMPIONSHIPS AND GOT US TO 4 BOWL GAMES. THIS IS NOT A KNOCK ON DODGE. I LOVE THE FACT THAT HIS IS OUR COACH. BUT I THINK IT WILL TAKE A WHILE FOR US TO GET USE TO HIS SYSTEM. JUST WAIT TILL WE PLAY SOMEONE OF OUR OWN CALIBER. THEN MAYBE THE RESULTS WILL BE SWITCHED.

I am about as big a DD backer as there still is in this world, not that I wish we still had him and not that I think he shouldn't have been fired.

But the answer is, YES. We did look this bad under DD. That's not a viable argument.

What really hurts me is that when Dickey was our coaching the past 2 years, MeanMag and I actually had several conversations where we wondered whether the fans of other teams actively dreaded game days. I used to see and hear games and be actively unhappy. Just miserable. Frustrated by failure to execute and inability to make any progress, even against poor defenses.

And I thought that those days were over. That I would no longer dread game days and wouldn't have to watch games with a sick sense of defeat in my stomach throughout. I was looking forward to this game, not for a win, but for the absence of frustration and embarassment.

What sucks is, it isn't gone. It's back.

I think next week will be much better. And I think we will reap results from Dodge that we couldn't have gotten from Dickey.

But right now, right this second, I am as embarassed and ashamed as I have ever been by my team. I still love North Texas, and I'm still watching. But this feels as bad as anything I felt watching a Dickey game.

  9. Holy crap... I had no idea:

Something else happened that same year Gillum resigned: Todd Dodge traveled to Tennessee before the 2002 season to revolutionize the state of high school football.

They ran a spread offense at Middle Tennessee State, where the offense featured four, sometimes five receivers scattered all over the field—just as Dodge’s did. But they didn’t huddle before the play, didn’t even have a receiver run the play in to the huddle. Instead, they relied on hand signals similar to those in baseball. The hand signals sped up the game; every player just lined up and looked back to the coach for the play. The signals also allowed for a more thoughtful offensive attack, since the coach had maybe 22 seconds of the 25-second play clock to consider his next move. Plus, they allowed the coach to call off a play when the defense shifted, and then signal another call in response to the shift. Dodge and three assistants spent four days in Tennessee that spring learning the no huddle. It sure looked familiar to Dodge. It was really just a variant of the signals he used at the line of scrimmage back in Port Arthur.

The pressure on this man is enormous. As Riley Dodge says, “One loss, and this season is a failure. I don’t want to think about it.” But Wasson isn’t worried. “Yesterday when I was unpacking,” he says, “I was going through some old lock and key stuff, and I said, ‘Here’s the original blueprint to the offense.’” The offense is the no huddle. The blueprint is from the trip to Middle Tennessee State.

We're emulating MTSU?? We're doomed....

  10. Wow Stan, thanks for putting me on notice. I will now officially retire to my new handle.

White flag goes up........I bend up over like a Frenchman........I retreat like Napolean or Butter Bean, whatever the hell his name is......to be never heard from again........NO more grammar lessons, no more kissing up to Emmitt, and just no more Dodge2007.

    Peace.........

Sing along with me.....................(since I am a douche, think Diana Ross or Emmitt, one of those sings this song)

Actually, that would be Gloria Gaynor. Don't doubt me on this, I paid my way through school performing it in drag at gay discos.

Fascinating trivia about "I Will Survive"... One of the last songs recorded by Celia Cruz before she died was "Yo Vivire", a spanish-translated cover version of "I Will Survive". Some say that she was working on a cover version of "Ironic", but wasn't able to finish it before passing away.
