  1. The North Texas Mean Green are off to a 2-1 start after trailing Ball State last week they rallied for the win. QB Derek Thompson has completed nearly 71 percent of his passes for five touchdowns with two interceptions while rushing for 85 yards and another score. Brandin Byrd has rushed for 163 yards and two touchdowns and Reggie Pegram has rushed for 141 yards and two touchdowns. Darnell Smith has 22 catches, Brelin Chancellor has 16 catches, and Carlos Harris has 12 catches. Defensively North Texas has four interceptions, five sacks, and seven fumble recoveries. Zachary Orr has 32 tackles, Marcus Trice as 28 tackles, and Derek Akunne has 21 tackles. North Texas has done a great job creating turnovers and they will need to take advantage of them in this one to have a chance. Georgia is 4-0 against the spread against the spread against a team with a winning record, 4-1 against the spread in their last five games, and 1-4 against the spread against CUSA. North Texas is 3-7 against the spread against the SEC, 1-5 against the spread in their last six road games, and 7-19 against the spread following a win. This is a monster number but Georgia is more than capable of covering it but look for North Texas to keep it closer as Georgia plays down to their competition often in these type of games. 2. I don't always look at the number as the end all for games because they were deceiving in the Mean Green's 27-21 defeat at Ohio. The Bobcats outgained UNT 442-299, but the bend but don't break defense of North Texas looked bad on one 75 yard touchdown throw. The offense not only struggled to move the ball consistently on 4-14 on third down conversions, but could not move the ball on the ground with only 104 yards on 38 carries. The air was a bit more friendly, with Derek Thompson going 19-29 for 195 yards with a pair of scoring tosses but his two picks were killers with one was returned for a Bobcats score. The bottom line was the Mean Green need to run the ball to maximize their chances of success. This should be interesting, but I like what I see from Ball State with Wenning under center, although at some point the Cardinals need to run the ball... 3. The North Texas Mean Green head out on the road to meet the Ohio Bobcats. I have seen North Texas on the receiving end of quite a few routs through the years, but they certainly delivered one of their own in a 40-6 thrashing of visiting Idaho. When I saw the Vandals take a 6-0 lead I said to myself; here we go, but it was all Mean Green from that point on. UNT amassed nearly 600 yards of offense and held Idaho to 390, while recovering three fumbles. The home team relied on the right arm of Derek Thompson (23-27/349), who enjoyed a career day with scoring strikes of 30 and 85 yards. The rushing attack received a team high 57 yards from Brandin Byrd, who visited the end zone twice.
