  1. One door closes and another opens. If the person that I want gets the job then we will all be very happy. I know that this person has already applied for the position and has many of the similar qualities that Jennings had... I can't say more but when I read the blog about Jennings I was bittersweet... now I have hope for my first choice, hopefully it comes to fruition. I know that he wants to be at NT and we don't have to worry about him flirting with the department and then leaving - he really wants the job. Fingers crossed!

did this individual play for NT and coach here for a few years under DD and possibly post on here periodically?

  2. Yep, you nailed it. He had been having a torrid love affair with the Bearded Woman. But, then he met your mama....and it was love at first sight.

And yes, he was a lion tamer. If you have a big affection for kitties, that may explain it.

Anyway, you can read more details about your Daddy soon. He's writing an autobiography. So far, it's 6782 pages long. And that just takes you up to his junior high years. Your Daddy is quite the wordsmith, as you know.

But my mom was the bearded woman.

  3. Football: Dodge fires defensive coordinator

For now let me just say that Dodge made the right call, even if it was a tough one. Dodge and Mendoza worked together at Southlake Carroll. By letting one of the original members of his coaching staff go, Dodge essentially admitted a mistake and began looking for a way to correct the problem. UNT will be better off in the long run for that painful decision.

This should also be a wake up call to all the other coaches on staff, either produce or good bye.

  4. True. Medical hardship waivers are for players injured during their collegiate careers. He could "gray shirt" - but that confuses people, too.

From another website, regarding "medical redshirts":

Though often called a "medical redshirt" by sportswriters and sportscasters, the actual term is a "medical hardship waiver". The concept goes like this: Every student-athlete who meets the minimum academic standards coming out of high school gets four season of NCAA Division I Competition eligibility in each sport.

If a student-athlete is injured during a season and cannot return to competition, he or she may qualify for another opportunity to utilize that season of competitive eligibility.

To receive a medical hardship waiver - in any sport - the injury must limit the student-athlete’s participation to no more than 20 percent of the team’s contests (rounded to the next whole number), with all participation occurring in the first half of the season.

Therefore, for a football player, the maximum number of games that he can play in and still receive a medical hardship waiver is three (20 percent of 11 equals 2.2, which is rounded up to 3), and none of his time on the field can occur after the fifth game (the sixth game of an eleven game season is considered in the second half of the season).

In the case of a 12 game regular season, none of the player's time on the field can occur after the sixth game. The seventh game of a 12 game season is considered in the second half of the season.

    Who's on first?

  5. knowing the strength of the schools in the SW Region being in the Top 10 is a great accomplishment for the team considering where the team was just last year, try not to be so sarcastic so quick.

Wasn't trying to be sarcastic in the least. Don't follow womens tennis and never have. Just trying to make a funny out of a very slow and boring day at work.

  6. TD is a great coach and he will turn things around here but you've got to be kidding yourself if you think the higher ups at SMU is going to hire away our 2-10 coach that lost to SMU (which by the way was SMU's only win). With the money they have, they will hire a high profile coach with a good set of assistants.

TD will get hired away from us one day, not now though.

  7. SUMG’s post re: the pond being drained at the Radisson got me thinking.

In addition to raising money for a new stadium I hope we are raising money to pay our coaches more. Have any of you been to this site? - http://coacheshotseat.com/index.htm

This site details the salaries of every coach in the FBS. It shocking how low we are and how high some of our competitors are. Just look at what Baylor did this year hiring Broyles for 1.8 million. He was making 900K at Houston. His new salary of 1.8 will put Baylor in the top 15 of highest paying coaching gigs.

SMU is rumored to pay Bennett’s replacement in the range of 1.5. If so, we are going to be seriously under market.

I think Dodge is a good coach (defensive woes aside) but we are going to lose him his first good season regardless of our stadium situation unless we come up with some serious cash.

I know we need new stadium/facilities for recruiting, better home games etc but I just hope we’re working on the salary issue at the same time.

TD's offense scored 19 pts on a bad FIU defense. He's not going anywhere anytime soon. I like TD but he'd got a whole lot to learn about the college game as well as all the assistants.
