  1. Nwigwe started the Tulsa game. It's on the NCAA participation report, which has to be accurate. I guess they could doctor it, but why bother? He'd just be listed among the backups, and it wouldn't matter. He led the team in tackles that game.

    Methinks you are incorrect.

Nwigwe missed team meetings the week before Tulsa. He was told he would not be playing against Tulsa. He sat out one defensive series.

  2. Don't worry! If any starters missed the meeting, coach will just hold them out for the first six or seven plays of the next game. They will be right back on the field after that. I realize this does not send a very strong message to players, but that is what has happened in the past (this season).

  3. sign only juco players for next year to have an all junior senior starting team?

HAHAHAHAHAHA. Why sign jucco players when Dodge had plenty of jr. and sr. players when he first came that he kicked to the curb? Why sign jucco players next year when some of Dodge's "guys" will be jrs? Look at the juccos that have been signed or lost since Dodge has come.

People on this board thought hiring a high school coach from up the road was the greatest thing since sliced bread. So far, we have seen NOTHING!!!! Why don't some of you that like to do internet searches go back to when DD was fired and look at the coaches North Texas could have had instead of a high school coach and look at where they are now.

  4. Are you serious? How are you supposed to play down hill when the opposing team is throwing the ball down field every down? He was prolly making plays 10 yds down field becuase they were throwing the ball 10 yards down field. Just a guess. At least someone was making some tackles, didn't see to many others making plays.
Take a look at some ofthe runnig plays.

  5. hey oldtimer,

they still gave up 42. We need LB's that have a nose for the ball and make people pay. #42 can play. #44 does not play down hill. He makes tackles 10 yards down the field. He looks good in a uniform but that is about it. LSU,Kstate, Ran flat at him and over him. The DT's were doing their job drawing the double team and the full back from LSU just blew him up. We are hurting for a middle linebacker that will flat hammer people.

greenblooded43, that might be the best oberservation I've seen posted on this board this year! #44 makes too many tackles 10 yards downfield, and he can not cover anyone. As far as a MLB that will hammer people...we have one, they just need to put him on the field. We also need someone with the character to become the leader of this defence.

  6. Wait... (assuming you meant 'killed' instead of 'called') are you saying that the NCAA essentially penalizes a team when a player is killed?

Sorry for the misspelling. Yes, the NCAA used to penalize a program no matter what the reason was an athlete left including death. That rule was changed several years ago.

  7. To the person posting in regards to the APR issue...this is my almost completely uneducated guess, but I think the APR is only hit by players who are on scholarship and leave. That would definitely mean King, Washington and Stbblefield would hit us a point each. I do think if a player stays in school you are not penalized. I'm not sure if Fentriss is still here or not. If he is and is still in good academic standing, then I think we are ok.

According to the NCAA, if a scholarship athlete leaves the program but is academically eligible and stays in school, it counts a point against the APR. If they leave the program due to ineligibilty, it is 2 points. It's about leaving the program.

The rule has changed but when Andrew Smith was called it was 2 points against our APR. Even if Fentriss is still in school, it will count 1 point against the APR. Padron will count against the APR. You are correct when you state scholarship athlete. Rexrode left the program but stayed in school and it counted 1 point against the APR.

You can check it out for yourself on the NCAA website.

  9. Yea, I got questions.

    1. What's the deal with the Mean Green march starting almost 15 minutes early?

    2. What's the deal with the team wearing all black for the Mean Green march? I remember a lot of DD bashing on this board for having the team come out in all black the last home game of Dickey's career at UNT. After all we all know UNT's colors are green and white.

    3. What's the deal with the Eagle Angels all in black? I thought UNT's colors were green and white

    3. Did anyone else open their eyes and notice the mass exodus of alum and students out of the stadium at half time?

    4. After witnessing the mass exodus at half time, does everyone on this board really believe the students are going to vote for a fee for a new stadium? HAHAHAHAHAHA

    5. Do all of you honestly believe Dodge has his best players on the field? HAHAHAHAHAHAHA If he did we wouldn't have taken a good old fashioned butt whipping 2 weeks in a row.

    6. After looking at all the scores from the weekend, what team besides possibly FIU do you think UNT is going to beat. Middle Tennesse 24- Maryland 14, Arkansas 28- La. Monroe 27, Fla. Atlanitc 49-UAB 34, Ark. St. 83- Texas So. 10. Rice 42- Memphis 35, Troy and La. Laf. didn't play because of Gustav.

  10. You have to believe the seniors and leaders of the team are all participating. I just don't understand optional team workouts at this level, unless I don't understand something (which in my case, is very likely).

In accordance with NCAA rules summer conditioning CAN'T be mandatory. Most of the players participating in summer workout are going to summer school. That doesn't mean they have grade problems but want to get ahead with their scolastice load and carry a lighter load during season. Those going to summer school receive a scholarship stipen. Not eveyone participating in summer conditioning is going to summer school. Those not going to summer school don't get a stipen. Not everyone can afford to live in Denton for summer if they aren't living in the dorm.

  11. is expected to walk every athlete to and from class, then check and make sure he or she is studying every night. As the link itself says, if the athlete needs help "It is the student athlete's responsibility to request the tutor."

Funny you should make this comment about coaches walking every athlete to class since sometimes that is exactly what Dickey and some of his coaches did. All year, Dicky could be found outside a classroom or sitting inside a classroom where football players were supposed to be in class. Imagine their surprise when they came down the hall or in the classroom and there was Dickey. Imagine their surprise when they showed up for team meetings or practice and Dickey questioned them in front of the team as to why they weren't in a particular class. Dickey REQUIRED his athletes to be 5 minutes early to class and if he happened to be there and they arrived late, extra study hall hours and running was punishment. If you didn't meet your weekly study hall hour requirements, then you had Dickey Hall. That was meeting Dickey at 5:30 a.m. at the athletic study hall and having Dickey stare at you while you did your class assignments until it was time for team meetings in the morning.

Now lets' talk about this JUCO recruit, Gabe that has to pass 19 hours in order to be eligible to even get into UNT for the fall. I don't think Dickey recruited this kid. I think Dodge recruited this kid. Ironic that no one on this board has even mentioned this recruit and the possibilities of him being an academic bust. Don't any of you question a JUCO having eligibility problems? Isn't that why a lot of athletes go to JUCO before going to a D1 program?

There have been athletes come to UNT who were outstanding students in high school. Making the adjustment from high school to college was a little difficult for some and so they had grade problems. Yes, some even left the program. PHS Coach pointed out that Dodge didn't renew the scholarships of some Srs. for the Spring of 2007. Some of those kids couldn't afford to pay for college and yet they were good students. So, that did count against the APR. Why would an AD and a HC not pay for one semester of school so these kids could graduate?

Why do a lot of you automatically assume that athletes that don't make their grades one semester were an academic risk when they were recruited? Why do some of you continually bash the athletes that Dickey recruited as if they were and are the scum of the earth? Most of the athletes left from the Dickeyera are good kids and make good grades. As a matter of fact most of the ones left are on the Dean's list. Some have even graduated and gone on to grad school. Some graduated early and have actually gone out in the world to become productive adults. Oh, right if I looked through some of the posters on this board's green colored glasses, if Dickey recruited them, they must be scum.

  12. We've forgotten about him...seemingly. Purely hypothetical:

What if he wins the job back this year, how would you handle Vizza/Riley the next couple years?

    Redshirt Riley for sure..

This isn't a "do you think it could happen", rather a "what if it did" scenario.

He did strike lightning against SMU. Can you imagine if that happened over a 3-4 game stretch to begin the year (er, and won too)? YIKES

IT COULD HAPPEN...if we were were playing to win today instead down the road, when RD gets here.

  13. Call me a hard-ass, but I would have preferred that UNT and TN just part ways. Maybe there are extenuating circumstances to his "offenses", I don't know...with all the good students/athletes out there who need a hand, why does this kid get to be UNT's latest charity case?

Before anyone sez this is off-limits subject matter, remember his actions are a matter of public record.

If he graduated, I'd consider altering my opinion.

I agree... TN was kicked off the field today by Coach Todd Dodge only two plays after being warned by Dodge. I wish TD was a hard-ass and would stick to the "family...character... bulls#*t" he preaches. If so, he would have never let TN back on the team, and then he would have not allowed Coach DeLoach to put him back on the field, 5 plays later.

  14. i will agree that the whole qb comment was dumb vizza is clearly better than meager and tune. colt is coming off a shoulder injury not a knee injury he had surgery after the troy game in 2007. if colt is not the fastest he is in the top 3 out of all the line backers also colt is no where close to 240 he's not even close to being 220 if i can remember correctly i think he told me he was 208 a few weeks ago. so if you think someone that is 208 can play middle line backer in a D 1 program you have problems. another thing colt just got released to play from his doctor yesterday so depending on how his shoulder feels he might not be hitting that much this spring anyways.

Hey Stick82, I beleive that Mahan started 3 games in 06 that he led the team in tackles, 2 of those 3 weeks, he was defensive player of the week at 210lbs... I beleive that's D1 football. Colts speed allows him to play sideline to sideline.

  15. because from what i have heard he could care less about football

What is it with you people taking pot shots at players? So, you know JT personally and can speak with absolutely authority? And you wonder why the players, their parents and some other fans want nothing to do with this board or people on this board.

  16. he was an unhappy scrub... the few times i came in contact with him... not a happy person

Is calling this kid a scrub necessary? How many football scholarships were you offered? How many downs of college football have you played?

I give Peachy lots of credit for knowing this wasn't what he wanted and moving on. Isn't that what life is all about? In the real world when you aren't happen with a job or any situation for that matter don't you take the necessary steps to change the things that are making you unhappy?

What Peachy has done shows signs of maturity.

    Good luck, Peachy.
