  1. Tune did a heck of a job, brought them back & gave them a chance to win AFTER the pick 6. You can't hang this loss on him... He was throwing very catachable balls... 2 end zone drops was what coat the game. I'd have loved to have seen Breece Johnson have a chance to catch those...

  2. Newsflash-

Because Mack Brown and Bob Stoops already know what the result would be, it would be a moot point. Plus, they already know, legally, it's a low-level misdemeanor to be caught with a blunt. So, they realize what a waste of time and resources testing everyone would be.

Also, since they're teams aren't 0-8 and getting smoked by the likes of Florida International, they don't need an excuse for not being able to do their job. And, I doubt either of them would throw their own players under the bus so publicly anyway.

    EXACTLY!

  3. I don't care what anybody says... I'd bet the farm on UNT beating an intramural flag football team any day of the week and twice on Sunday!

I heard the other day that the KAPPA girls have scored 212 points total for their flag football season and their opponents have only scored a total of 6 points against them.

  4. I will call the athletic department on this monday, but for the love of our University, can we not please get either white or green shirts or pants on the injured players that are now sitting in the stands? Seriously, not only are they dressed in ALL black, they couldn't even stand while the fans were standing for the playing of the SCHOOL song. The University is paying their education, the least they could do is stand for the playing of the Alma Mater and be engaged in what is happening on the field.

I have heard the argument against the all black look as under armor doesn't make "Kelly" green, yet our ALL of our training staff wears the darker green under armour shirts. Our team walks in on the Mean Green march in all black. Either find something green and white for them to wear, or dress them in suits.

I posted this topic last week. The team had green UA warm ups and white UA shirts last year. People on this board had a fit several years ago when the team came out in all black uniforms but now it is okay to walk through the Mean Green March in all black.

I don't understand the Eagle Angels in all black either. There was a time when RV drove around this campus and exchanged shirts and hats that students were wearing with other schools' logos with UNT t-shirts and hats.

It is in the small details. Small details such as being proud to wear your school colors; standing for the alma mater; walking over to the band and singing your alma mater at the end of a game, yelling for your teammates when you can't be on the sidelines with them. It is up to the coach to cover those small details. The small details lead to the larger details.

  5. . I believe that both Permian and Abilene are in the top 10 of AAAAA... there is also talent at other places as well.....UNT will ignor them.

I think Dodge slammed the door on the Abilene and possibly the west Texas area by the way he treated the recruit from Abilene Cooper who had committed to Dickey. According to the interview with the Abilene Cooper head coach that was in the Abilene paper not only would Dodge NOT return the kids calls, he wouldn't return the calls of the coach either. I did a google search on the Abilene Cooper coach. He coached tight ends at the U of Houston for several years under Briles. Before coaching for Briles he had been a 5A high school at several high schools in Texas. So what does that man for UNT? I think that means you have a former D1 assistant coach now in the high school ranks that probably has a lot of football coaching connections that has spread the word about how he and one of his kids was treated by Dodge. I don't think that will work in UNT's favor.

  6. Competition makes every player better. No one deserves this or deserves that. You earn your play in practice and in what you do on film. Film does not lie. You can bet every player is being graded very tough. Those not earning the grade are going to sit.

I bet the entire staff is looking for leaders to step up on both sides of the ball. No one sees what happens in the lockeroom, the practice field, nor the film room.

I'm for anyone that can win games but more importantly the desire to win games and play their ass off when things get tough. It will be interesting to see which players respond to adversity and which plaers will continue to play hard. Anyone can play hard when your winning and everyone is kissing your butt, but when the chips are down, WHO will respond? Which players and which coaches will respond to this adversity.

    [it/quote]\

It's difficult to earn your play in practice when you aren't allowed to participate in practice. It is hard to have film on someone when all they have been allowed to do is stand on the sideline and watch.

The only leadership the entire staff is looking for is in Dodge's recruits. If you're not a Dodge recruit then you aren't allowed to be a leader.

Yea, he coaches are responding to adversity but hiding and not taking any responsibilty. All the blame is being placed on the the players. I haven't heard a coach including the head coach say anything about the play calling was bad or we didn't have the right players on the field.

  7. IT IS RUMORED THAT THE AUSTIN WESTLAKE JOB WILL BE OPEN AT THE END OF THIS SEASON. HIS FATHER IN LAW IS FORMER A.D. THERE. IT IS AN AFFLUENT AREA, VERY YOUNG, WEALTHY AND SPORTS MINDED, ANOTHER SOUTHLAKE AND A NATURAL FIT FOR DODGE. W/O THIS MINIMAL DEDICATED ATHLETIC FEE ( WE ARE ASKING FOR HALF WHAT SOUTHLAND CONFERENCE SCHOOLS ALREADY HAVE) I SEE NO WAY WE CONTINUE IN D-1, AND WE WOULD PROBABLY HAVE TO BE NON-SCHOLARSHIP TO CONTINUE FB, AND FUND BB AND NON-REVENUE SPORTS. I WOULD RATHER HAVE NO PROGRAM THAN FALL TO THAT LEVEL. I WOULD CONTINUE TO SUPPORT BB, BUT THE REST OF THE UNIVERSITY DONATION ARENAS COULD TAKE A FLYING LEAP AS FAR AS I'M CONCERNED. THIS WILL NEVER BE THE BIG TIME TIER 1 UNIVERSITY THAT OUR ESTEEMED PRES. ESPOUSES W/O COMPETITIVE D-1 ATHLETICS, NOT IN TEXAS NO WAY MADAM!!!!!!!!!!

This post had me calling people I know in Austin. They know some of the local high school coaches and ADs. They laughed when I read them this post. First, this isn't even a rumor going around Austin. Second, Dodge's father in law was moved to the SLC area after his stroke last year. Third, if the Westlake job were to come open in the couple years the real rumor is the next coach is a young up and coming coach out of the Austin ISD

  8. "Ten Men You Meet in a Huddle" concerning Coach Dodd of Georgia Tech. He was quoted as saying that he wanted three things from his team (and I am paraphrasing)....one, go to church, two go to class and three go to football practice.

While DD was here he took the football team, his coaching staff and their familes to his church, the First Methodist Church of Denton the Sunday at the end of 2 days. The team sat together and the majority of team came.

This year Dodge did this and only had about 20 players (mostly the subpar, bare cupboard jr. and sr. players) show up. A lot of these guys attend that Methodist church or the church that was started by a former UNT football player.

  9. Though I completely disagree, I might could be convinced that he inherited enough to have the season he did last year, but not these first 5 games and whatever is going on in that locker room behind the scenes is definately something new.

Remember Dodge keeps telling everyone he has his best players on the field. 90% of those players are Dodge's recruits. Lots of burned redshirts to make sure the best players are in the field and we are 0-5. So, I have to ask why do people on the board keeping saying Dodge inherited this mess and the cupboard was bare. The QB is a Dodge recruit. All but 2 of the receiving corp are Dodge recruits. The running backs and some of the o-line are Dodge recruits. Most of the defense are Dodge recruits. To those of you who keep saying Dodge inherited "this mess" I would like to know what the mess is?

  10. I'm sure I'm not the only one that noticed that the players were 25 yards behind Coach Dodge on the Mean Green March. That's not exactly the way you want to go into battle. Was the team making a statement? I believe Dodge would have the public believe that this lack of success is simply and a lack of talent. If he would step up and take responsibility, maybe the team would get behind him. Untill then, expect more of the same.

  11. Guys,

Coach Dodge has got to make this work. He understands self evaluation. He is a good and succesfull football coach. If we need to improve in an area with coaching, he has proven that he will do that. One thing I have noticed about him is that there is no "kneejerk" reaction to anything. He takes his time in making decisions with thoughtful care.

How long after last years season did we find out about Mendoza not coming back? This man is a success and will be a success here. We can kick and scream all we want. He will still coach and teach these young men to the best of his ability. As he says, "quitting is not an option".

Look everyone! RV's best friend is back to posting.

  12. Yep - injured players. And the reason for the all black is that UA does not make gear in our shade of green on a large scale. It is my understanding that the AD white and green shirts were special orders.

Last year the team had green UA for their traveling clothes. UA may not make the UNT green but they do make green. You can go into any store that carries UA and they have green UA.

  13. Booing these kids would be a bit unfair. Though they have to bear some responsibility for their performance, I think it is obvious we have a coaching staff problem, assistants and the head man alike.

People keep asking about leadership on this team. Well, when the head leader (Dodge) keeps blaming the players and NEVER takes any responsibility for a loss or a badly played game, there can't be any leadership until a real leader is brought in to not only lead the team but the coaching staff. I find it interesting that Dodge hasn't blamed his coaching staff for the losses. It is always the players.

These players have to go to class and face the other students on campus. They have to listen to the jokes and the sneers. Dodge and his coaching staff don't have to put up with any this.

I agree, don't boo these kids. The person calling the plays needs to step up and take some responsibilty for the play calling. By the way did anyone else see DeLoach get in Dodge's face a couple times?

  14. I think many will very soon learn that when it comes to the "great Satan" Dicky and everyone's favorite Jesus figure Dodge there is not a real big distinction. Keep your ears open and we will all learn as much soon.

Emmitt, this is probably the best post you have ever made. A lot is going to be learned.

  15. I was around. Trust me. There were no real consequences under Dickey's regime. The players might have gotten called out, but there were no real consequences. Oh, he yelled...but he yelled more at the academic counselor for his players' lack of performance in the classroom then he did the players.

I have been around for 4 years now. I have had lots of classes with football players. I can tell you that it was not a nice site for football players to come around a corner and see Coach Dickey standing outside a classroom taking a head count of which players showed up for class, who didn't and who wasn't in class 5 minutes before the class started. Dickey wasn't the only coach standing outside the classrooms taking a head count. I heard football players talk about Dickey Hall. One day I finally asked what is Dickey Hall. I was told if you were a player that got Dickey Hall that meant showing up at the athletic academic center at 5:30 a.m. to sit with Coach Dickey until 8:00 a.m doing your class work while Coach Dickey sat there staring at you. I would say that was a consquence for not taking care of your academic business. I have asked if there is any consquences like this since Dodge became coach and have had players laugh saying no coaches come to the classrooms and don't have players bring in a weekly class list signed by teachers about being in class either.

I came to freshman orientation in 2004. I sat in the Super Pit and heard Villareal tell all of us freshmen that by the time we graduate North Texas would playing in a new stadium. I asked some of the football players I had class with about a new stadium. They told me that was one of the things they were told when they were recruited was by the time they graduated from North Texas they would be playing in a new stadium. So, I have been at North Texas 4 years. It looks to me that the recruits in the 2004 class were promised a new stadium to play in.

I grew up being told Do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If all you out that posting on this site believe that is the rule Dodge and his staff live by then you really have been sold a bill of goods. I have been told that what is said about we are all a family and we are a team only applies to the guys Dodge and his staff recruit. From what I have been told coaches diss jr and sr players when they are in class when there is a meeting. From what i hear some really nasty, mean and downright degrading things have been said about some of the guys that were here when Dodge and staff came in and the younger guys see as leaders. Buy in? Buy in to what? Degrading players that were that recruited by Dickey, take care of their business in the classroom and off the field and are proud of being North Texas students and players?

Yea, there are serious problems in the program. Just remember leadership and the success and failure of athetic programs start at the top. That would be Rick Villareal and Todd Dodge. Look at the players currently leaving the team. Who recruit them? Dickey or Dodge? I think I agree with another thread and what Illivus theory with the pampered players. I have talked to some guys who played football at my high school. I asked them what the football coach at our high school thought of Dodge. They look at me laugh. Does that tell any of you anything?

Keep drinking the green kool aid so many of you talk about. Maybe when it finally runs out you might have the football program you want.

  16. I would love to see Brock Stickler back in there. He's a great player that has been overlooked - healthy for 2 weeks now. A fine young man that is in a potential leadership position with this team - if only he were allowed to be. I understand the mentality of wanting to find a group of players to work together over a course of 2-4 years, but much needed upper classman leadership has been passed over on this team.

  17. Unfortunately, a 2-14 record, with many blowout losses, will begin to wear down a player's will to play the game. Losing isn't fun. Getting humiliated is even worse. Most of Dodge's recruits came from winning high school programs and all this losing is new to them. I'm just guessing, but maybe some can't hack it and have decided it's no longer worth their time and effort.

Just for the record there are players on the team that where here before Dodge. Alot of them came from high school programs that were considered winning programs and even went to the state playoffs. Hey, some of them were all district from their areas. They have stuck with the football program through a lot more than 2-14. Oh that's right they weren't recruited by Dodge so they don't count. Doesn't say much for Dodge's recruits if they can't stick around when the going is tough especially when this is only their second year.

  18. Moffat, you seem to have a pulse with the team. Tell me, is Tobe the vocal leader of the team? If not, who leads this team and where do they get leadership from at the player level?

Ahhh, now someone has finally addressed what I beleive to be the biggest delima this team faces. Leadership. Leadership. Leadership. Throw respect in there & I think that's the crux of our problem...
