I saw in today's "Thank you Season Ticket Holders" email from UNT that the CUSA Championship game is on Friday?  Who's awful planning is that?

At least the last time we appeared in this game it was on a Saturday.

2021 was the first year of the Friday Championship game.

Too many underestimate the value of Rice University being in the same conference. If Rice decides to get really serious about athletics, it has the resources necessary to do so and become a top-tier program. Not to mention the superb academics it brings to the table.

Meh, they've had since 1996 to give a care.

I think if UTSA wins Conference they would get choice of the five CUSA Bowls.  I bet they would take New Orleans; indoors and party city.

The other Bowls probably then get decided by ESPN.   UNT would have a good shot at Ft. Worth, to bring a crowd.  Assignments may depend on school's finals, graduations and conflicts too.

ESPN has a lot of pull. I think we play Coastal in the NO bowl no matter what. It was embarrassing to see 30 UTSA fans in the stands on Saturday and that being 26 more than Rice had. Rice simply does not pull its weight anymore. Houston area  doesn't care about Rice anymore than Rice cares about Rice.

How do they get the trophy before the champ game?

The trophy was probably already made for each division before Marshall, USM, and ODU jumped abruptly to the Sunbelt.

That wouldn't surprise me one bit to see this repurposed. LOL

It doesn’t make sense in other sports either. It’s incredibly unstable having multiple teams claiming league titles for the same year. You don’t see the NBA/NFL/MLB crowning a regular season champion.

It does for post season consideration in baseball, basketball, etc. CUSA might actually be on the forefront here knowing the playoffs are about to expand and divisions in all conferences are going away. SEC confirmed they will not have divisions. We've already seen a non-SEC winner make the natty and actually win it all 3 times. Alabama over LSU, Alabama over Georgia, Georgia over Alabama.

It’s so weird trying to figure out what his role even really was at Michigan. On their game notes, he’s listed as “Associate Head Coach/Special Advisor” listed under Analysts. He’s not even a position coach. So strange. How is the Associate Head Coach not even a position coach?

At Alabama this title/position is called "Saban coach rehab clinic" for recently failed coaches that need insight as to how top notch programs are run. I think they are used also for their experience to grade in real time performance on the field while understanding all the HC duties/communications/recruiting for "the process" of being a head coach.

Use Sark as an example. Look at him Pre-Alabama and Post-Alabama. His demeanor is completely different. Hes having some great results and some dud reults, but he'd definitely handling it better than ast USC or Washington.  He was in this "analyst role" before leaving for the Falcons and then returning to Alabama for the 2019&2020 seasons.

Weird that this guy was that already at Michigan, so no you aren't missing anything. A rich guy who may or may not know football that is "on cheap" for Charlotte.

Wish the AAC would form some kind of alliance with the MWC. Even if it was OOC games. I believe it would benefit both and may help on broadcasting $$.

I wish all G5s would understand where they stand and work together like this. I think the days of needing multiple paydays are ending for most programs. I like the idea of G5 conference challenges like they do in basketball.

I get UAB is going to get some love playing at home.  But have these guys watched us play the last few weeks?  Anything more than UAB -3 for being a home team is crazy. I would actually swap that to UNT -3 and bet heavily on that.

UAB was given a 61% chance of beating us.

  9. I'll have to ask around, but I don't get the feeling UTSA is doing anything really special other than maybe talking up some kids that playing time is to be had and we are winning football games. Now, that isn't a bad thing, if anyone thinks I'm saying that it is. I just think it is a little overblown or pumped up, if you will, to say one of the best.

Lemonade out of lemons is far more appropriate. CJT is very likeable. The operations guys is super likeable. That helps a lot.

Plain and simple, winning cures all *IF* an athletics department and fundraising can strike while the iron is hot. Boise St never really did, look at them now. Their facilities are "meh" for an OG BCS busting program. 3 Fiesta Bowls in 8 seasons. 25Kish students every year. Asking for financial ssupport is super duper important AND reaching out to those who do dig as deep as they can saying "thanks" once a quarter is icing on the cake.

Like, it wasn't completely unreasonable to play the defense straight up. Texada had good coverage, played it well. He was beat. I have no problem with that -- that's football.

That was going to be UTSA's play no matter what. 6'3" with a great vertical against a 5'10" DB. A timeout just gives UTSA 3 maybe 4 plays because there was 23 seconds on the snap.

UTSA is quickly rising to the ranks of “I really hope we humble them.”  Their student section was flipping off Gumms after he scored. Just awful behavior. Hope our fans have the same fire, but classier.  I’d like to see us play them again this year AND beat them.

Thank you for sharing this. I'm too far from the student section to see it. I always assume it is UTSA "birds up", but not the middle bird. Some of our fans boo the other teams as they enter and leave the stadium. Why would anyone boo college kids, without provocation, is beyond me. I simply ignore the other team.

I know the advanced stats say we got dominated, but it never felt that way IMO. Probably because we had the lead the vast majority of the game.

I was sitting in the stadium, so I completely agree. People who were listening to the broadcast would share, "North texas only has xx yards" and none of us believed it. Responses were "what? really?!?!?" or along those lines. It was one of those games where both defenses really took away the best offensive stat of each team. I know UNT was 50/50 coming into the game, but that pass game comes off of the run first approach. UTSA is clearly pass first.
