I agree, but the damage done by him sticking around is potentially devastating.
We never fully healed from the Portland State loss that occurred by leaving a lame duck head coach for the season…
Basketball obviously is spectacular on the court but the crowds are still suffering from Benford era neglect…
Littrell can not finish this season.
I'm confused by the Portland State comment. The coach was fired before he even left the locker room that day. He wasn't allowed to coach the rest of the season. Dodge was fired mid-season too. The only time RV let a lame duck head football coach finish the season was Dickey and we saw how well that worked out. WB has done some great things but I just don't know if he's willing to do what is necessary and let Littrell go mid-season. I'm afraid he's going to be here until the bitter end.

Meh. That's announced. Probably sub-10k in attendance
They offered two free tickets to all Faculty and Staff for last night's game. The numbers could include everyone who clicked the link to get the free tickets even if they didn't actually attend.

My day:
Got to Denton in the early afternoon and after seeing some friends, went to Voertman's to purchase some new t-shirts for me and my son. Found one my son like but I couldn't find anything. That store is sad compared to what it used to be. I don't think I will ever go back. We left there and headed to Academy, even though I had heard about it on here. There selection was even worse. On the way out, one of their employees asked if we were able to find what we were looking for. I told them I was in town for the game and was looking for North Texas items and that I was shocked that had so little and were featuring UT. He told me he understood but it was a corporate decision. I responded that I knew it wasn't his fault, but that it was not good. Left there and headed to Rally House.
Rally House had the best selection of items and I found a couple of shirts, staff were great, had North Texas items right at the entrance, along with SMU, and a large selection at the front/left of the store. I even knocked a few UT items on the floor.
Left there and went to get a bite to eat, headed to the stadium, was going to park in the Blue Lot, but after not moving for 15 minutes at 4:45 or so, I u-turned and parked on the streets in Cement City for free, walked across the bridge and hung out in the Alumni Pavilion until the rest of my party arrived. It was a little crowded, but they had a buffet and drinks and we were able to watch the end of the UH/utsa game. Did watch the line of cars not moving on Bonnie Brae for a while. When the rest of our party arrived, we walked around to Gate 2, no line, scanned in and were in our seats within 5 minutes. We used to concessions near our seats and never had an issue with soft drinks, water, popcorn or a burger. Sorry so many had a bad experience.
PA system and connectivity still suck after all these years. Bad feedback, the announcer talking over pre-recorded material, the constant smu logo, bad music selections, etc...
They showed the SMU logo so much I started to think I was in Dallas. Ridiculous.

How long does he need? The ticket office is one of the key links to the fanbase. If were going to give him his due credit in some areas, he needs to be held accountable for the areas failing and causing fans to be unhappy.
Exactly. He's been here 6 years.

I didn't know Josh White is on their staff.
They also have AJ Lawson on their team. Lots of ties to North Texas.

We should see if we can play TCU on 30 December. They have not played since 21 December and their next game is 3 January. It would get them to 30 games and get us to 28 if the Rice game happens. You don't have to make serious travel arrangements since the teams are close enough. It would be a good challenge for both teams before opening conference play.
TCU was supposed to play Texas Southern this afternoon and cancelled because of COVID issues within their program.

Thanks. Anything similar about Torrey prior to the bowl game?

No. He was a senior in 2020 and took advantage of the extra COVID season this year. He’s out of eligibility.
Darden did last year.
Or did they have to sit out because of grades? I don't think either said they were missing the bowl game because of the draft but maybe I just missed it. Either way, Torrey was a phenomenal athlete for us and I hope he finds success like Darden has.

Ask TCU to play tomorrow, their next game is at home on 12/8 against UTAH.
TCU Assistant Coach Tony Benford is already used to losing in the Super Pit. I think that would be a great add to the schedule.

We can't afford him. He won't come here. But if he did, I would not attend a single game and I've been a season ticket holder for over 25 years. I know several people who have worked with him and I've heard nothing but truly terrible things. Add that to the way he acts every time they lose, the way he lashes out at the fans, his players, players from other teams, coaches from other teams, etc. No thank you. Wins aren't everything.

NCAA is weak as hell for making this unsportsmanlike conduct rule so strict. Let the kids show some damn emotion every now and then. Flag for shaking your head at a guy lol
We are 1-6. We don't deserve to shake our heads at anyone. There is no reason for the crap our guys are doing.

Same player. Another taunting penalty that gives Rice an automatic first down. We're 1-6 and we're taunting.

All we can do is laugh at this point. The defense hasn't given up a point and they're still making us pull our hair out. At least Bennett looks like he gives a damn and gave 25 an earfull.
He's obviously not doing much coaching or disciplining during the week or we wouldn't keep getting these ridiculous penalties so how much of a damn does he really give.

Phil Bennett looks like he snuck down from the stands in those damn shorts and yellow shirt
Do we need to increase his salary so he can afford long pants? If our defense played better and quit giving teams automatic first downs with our stupid penalties, Bennett could be out there in just his underwear and I wouldn't care.

Let’s not make that mistake again. Wren is dealing with the fallout from a decision like that.
Exactly. Let's see what Wren does with our football coach situation first before we start talking about his contract.

I totally missed that. This explains a lot!!!
What does that explain? She's listing her preferred pronouns which is fairly common at public universities especially when they're trying to be inclusive. Not sure what that has to do with a cancelled parade.

He deserves credit for two bowls. The other two were with a losing record.
The first bowl with a losing record we only got because the academics under Coach McCarney were so good.

I'm calling it because I've investigated sexual assaults, sexual assaults of minors, and sexual assaults of minors by minors. There is ZERO chance all of those have been uttered in this case, which is what the author is implying. If it is getting mentioned to that many people, someone is going to report the outcry.
As someone who has known several sexual assault survivors, I'm saying it happens. Those words are said to victims of assault. Victims are shamed and blamed. As someone who investigates sexual assaults, I'm sure you know how rare it is for the accused to actually see the inside of a cell.

More information including a story from a mother whose daughter was supposedly sexually assaulted by the player in 2018. They went to the police and the school and no action was taken. The school even kept putting the assailant in classes with the victim.

"Boys will just be boys, you know? Well what were you wearing? Well if you were under the influence that’s your fault. If you don’t have video footage or DNA, nothing we can do about that. Why didn’t you scream for help? Why didn’t you report this sooner? "
And I call straight bullshit on this quote. No teacher, coach, or cop has told them this.
It 100% happens. Go ask the females in your life. This is especially true in Texas when you're talking about star football players. I'm not saying this particular case is true or not. I have no idea. I'm just saying you can't call "straight bullshit" because there are teachers, coaches and cops who have said words like that to traumatized young females.

A Seth legacy, we pay well, have good facilities, and you can recruit well at UNT. We will be attractive to other coaches.
And you can have terrible seasons while still keeping your job. That has to be attractive to coaches/

He has. Softball coach for example (didn't really resign, that was just put there to look good). The guy he hired after is nothing short of a revelation. I also think the womens golf coach had been let go. Still your worry is not unfounded. What he has never done to my knowledge - no matter how obvious it was that it was necessary - is fire a coach during the season (which is why it never looks like a firing). In the Benford case that was unbelievably frustrating.
I have little doubt that if this team wins 3 games or less this season, he will fire SL. But I am very afraid that he will not pull the trigger until the end of the season. It is also to no small degree WB who dug a financial hole by paying a coach that never won a championship as if he was better than any other coach in the conference. Sadly, looking at how fast realignment is moving, I fear NT cannot afford to wait firing him till the end of the season, so WB needs to get over his usual ways.
The next games on the docket are: @ LaTech (his best chance at anything before middle of the season I think) then @ Missouri and then home vs Marshall and Liberty. Scary. Unless this thing improves fast, WB will have plenty of opportunities to give SL the boot.
Softball- I think Coach Kee's contract was up the year she left so it might be a similar situation to Benford.
Women's Golf- The coach left for personal reasons. He was in no way fired or even in the hot seat as far as I know.

I work on campus and I haven't seen any game promotions in years. What are we doing to actually market the games to the students? Faculty and staff? I don't see anything. If I didn't have season tickets and an already established interest in UNT Athletics, I would have no idea there was a game yesterday.
The same goes for promotions and marketing to the city of Denton, I don't see anything. The average Denton resident should know when there's a home football game if the Athletic Department was doing anything to actually market the team or to establish any goodwill around the city.
