I never really thought about administrative people trying to derail their own entity until I tried to donate some NT athletic items many years ago to the department. I had too much stuff overall and some things I knew the department didn't have on display for fans to see, like 2 flying worm helmets, ticket and program to the Hayden Fry Tennessee football win, SLC Championship ring, etc.
I talked with an asst or assoc AD back under RV, forgot his name now, and described some of what I had and showed him some of the more unique items. But he said they get things from estates or families they don't need or have space for. I said I wouldn't donate things if you're just going to trash them. He continued, when you die, we'll get them anyway. Your wife will bring all your NT items to us and most of it we'll have to get rid of. I was like shocked, that they didn't value some historic things, things that made the department and school what it had become athletically. They could easily auction excess or duplicate items to fans that might want them and raise $ for the department.
Luckily I held back some items, and they used a few items in display cases in the hallway of the Suite Level of the new stadium back then. But most non-Suite fans can never see them up there if they don't have access. The one helmet I did leave them they have used in info about the Mean Green...

Consider donating to UNT Libraries. They even have a University Archivist and would likely love to have your items in the collection.

Should have pointed to the upper deck and told her to go sit there.
The whole way home I kept thinking of things I should have said to her.

My wallet just received tickets for a game that I know nothing about. Don't know if just an error.
I got them too. Strange. My guess is it's just a glitch.

We had some FAU fans sitting in front of us last night and they actually turned around and told me I needed to chill out because I was cheering our team and yelling at the refs. She said there was no need to get so into the game if I didn't have money on it. Lady, don't come into my house and tell me how to act.
On a related note, I am so tired of paying for season tickets year after year and ending up with obnoxious visiting fans sitting around us. Just whining, sorry.

Was anyone else disappointed by the turnout for the 50th anniversary player recognition yesterday? There was only one player from this century. I'm really glad the department invited them back but why weren't there more former players there especially from the past 20 years?

Keeping my fingers crossed that we lose Caponi in the off-season (if not sooner)

morris to date is a terrible hire. I hope that changes.
I don’t think I care to get into pissing contest of which one is more terribleMac as in Coach McCarney? The last coach to get us a bowl win? That Mac? Yes, his tenure ended horribly but he also led some great teams and he truly cared about the character of his players.

I’m speaking of the game against Sam Houston. There was a new announcer. Does anyone know who he is ? I also noticed Dave and Hank at the scorer’s table but they weren’t broadcasting.
Lots of construction around the concession area too.
How many years have they been doing construction at the Pit?

Are you talking about our win against UTSA? A game that was at home in the cold rain against a team that is not used to playing in bad weather? That was a great game but I have a feeling we would have lost if the weather hadn't been on our side.

Most of my complaints about this pathetic game have already been stated by others on here so the only new thing I have to add is why did our DJ play California Gurls???
On the plus side, it was good to see Tylor Perry back at UNT if only briefly.

I agree that they should have done it on a Saturday but they typically don’t like to plan things on Saturday as it can trigger overtime which typically is not included in the budget.
Overtime for who? Most of the department employees are salaried so I'm not understanding how that would be an issue.

I'm a little surprised they didn't hire a woman. Personally, I believe in hiring the best candidate regardless of gender, but these optics are important in some circles. How many of our women's sports presently have a female coach?

This may just be a coincidence but David Anwar was an assistant coach there for several years until last year. When he left UNT, there was an investigation into our basketball program. It ended up not coming to anything but still weird coincidence.

According to AD employees, WBB is a revenue sport...or at least that's what I was told a few years ago.

Yes. Mosley mentioned to listening fans (ones that already go to games) to promote NT games to their non-attending friends. I agree with this, but the Athletic Department needs to do a better in-house Marketing job to Denton, DFW< and Alumni. It's been this way for decades, relying mainly on walkup crowds and word-of-mouth marketing. A larger and better promotions and marketing staff would pay for itself!
Exactly. We buy season tickets and have attended just about every home game for almost 20 years. I try to get my friends and family to go to games but it's not my job to promote the program. That's why the AD and other senior staff in the Athletic Department get paid the big bucks. They need to promote the games and the team. They need to get people excited. We also need a most consistent product on the field to get people engaged.

That was the third time Lake Worth has played at Apogee this season.

My Nextdoor app is filled with people asking about the fireworks and fire from Thursday night. Too many Denton residents had no idea UNT Homecoming was this week. So depressing.
Also depressing is how many students came out for the bonfire but didn't come out for the actual game.

This isn’t a new thing. RV was AD when I was a student and the only thing that was on campus that would signify we had a game that weekend was a ticket trailer outside of Willis.
There have been years with yard signs advertising games, pep rallies in the Union, coaches and players going around campus talking to students, giving out shirts. I haven't seen any of those things in years around campus. The only reason most students know it's a game week is because of the signs telling them to move their cars which piss them off more than motivate them to support the team.

Why didn't Wren or the Athletic Department not know about the change to tower lighting before it was brought to their attention by a fan? Shouldn't someone in the department communicate frequently with Talons? Not everything falls at the feet of the Athletic Department but student engagement is their responsibility. There are no signs around campus for games. They just aren't doing enough to get the students invested.

Another thread about how to increase fan engagement (besides WINNING!!)

There definitely needs to be more done to reach out to students, faculty and staff. I've been on campus for a long time and for most of those years, I've hardly seen any advertisements on campus promoting upcoming games in any sport. They need to get coaches and players out on campus promoting the games. Have them walking around talking to students, handing out freebies and showing them how to get tickets. You could even have them giving out free general admission tickets to games. Have pep rally type events in the Union during lunch time. Get the coaches and athletes in the dorms and the greek houses. Make it easier for people to get tickets. I love the idea of having a ticket office in the Union or somewhere on the main campus. Offer more free tickets or discounts to faculty and staff. There are over 40,000 students and a ton of faculty/staff. If we could do more to get even a fraction of those people engaged and at games, it would be amazing.
