  1. I was recently at the tolltag store in Fort Worth and noticed the Specialty Sports Branded Tolltags. I was happy to see that "North Texas" was included but still disappointed that we choose to brand & market our stylized bird-word logo similar to an on-line college, a large insurance company & the postal service. (I quickly created a simple version with the interlocked NT)

The bird-word logo does not scale well...it's too small...and hard to read it from a distance. Letters are better for collegiate sports branding. NT needs to continue to push to expand the brand and market the interlocked NT for our spirit gear...just like North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Texas Tech, Texas A&M, Baylor, Oklahoma, Southern California, Notre Dame, Virginia Tech & West Virginia.

  2. +1 for Harry posting this...wow! The new coaching staff have made something cool looking to market & brand out of UNT!

I always like a smart play on words marketing campaign...plus dig the photo shopped "mean green" color...the UNT needs to be same color as the helmet in the image...ala Monster Engery drink green....get sum! Would love to see our Ath-Dept expand this...

  3. since we we are certainly clueless misfits in the land of Uniformville...I wish we could just do our basic classic 60's throwback that 817Fan posted with a green or white helmet, one stripe & grey face mask. (no logo)

  4. The North Texas Athletic Dept. really should push for a +1 additional NT logo to use in sports merchandising...

...everywhere I look there's cool sports gear for the P5's...

    1) This last week, I received a nice "Westport" catalog in the mail...one page offered your school's lettered or mascot logo on "your choice" name brand - jacket, sweater, polo shirt or dress shirt...the classic P5's colleges were all there...most of them had lettered logos...(ie) Tennessee's T, Auburn's AU, North Carolina's NC, Texas A&M's ATM, etc...

    2) I recently Googled "Top College Logos"...yep...7 out of the top 10 are on my list above...the next 10 had 7 schools with lettered logos. Why North Texas would imitate the University of Phoenix or Florida Atlantic instead of North Carolina or Auburn? boggles the mind...we could promote the NT, MEAN GREEN, North Texas & the eagle...all of them...as needed.

    3) I took the family out to eat tonight in Fort Worth...saw a sports fan guy wearing a simple KU beanie hat...didn't have their bird on it...or KU...just spelled JAYHAWKS...is it possible to just simply put MEAN GREEN on a few items here or there without our eagle...

it's a fact..."letters are better" for college...8 out of 10 (big boy schools) P5 agree...

yes...winning will help everything...but personally...I am just kinda tired & done with looking like FAU & the U of Phoenix. This is an easy fix...much easier than say...scheduling, fundraising, hiring coaches, getting fans to show up and winning constantly...

    +1 logo "Expand the Brand"

    Use them ALL...why not?

There is only one "North Texas"...one "NT"...& one "MEAN GREEN" in college sports...let's use that to our advantage when branding & marketing our school.

NORTH TEXAS, MEAN GREEN, NT, UNT & EAGLE....that's who we are...it's our heritage..

  5. 2015 Study of 65 P5 Schools Primary Logo for Sports Merchandising & Branding.

Out of the 65 (Big Boy) P5 colleges...9 are mascot-heavy as a primary logo on majority of their sports spirit gear, clothing, facilities and correspondence.
The Mascot-Nine are: Arkansas, Clemson, Florida, Florida State, Iowa, Kansas, K-State, Louisville, Penn State & Texas.

3 are Combos: Kansas, Colorado & Washington State

The majority of the remaining 53 colleges use "lettered logos" for their center courts, mid-fields, stadium seats, sports letterheads, flags, cups, koozies, coolers, baseball hats, caps, shirts, jackets & golf gear...

    Expand the Brand

North Texas should brand similar to North Carolina, Georgia Tech, Virginia Tech, West Virginia, Notre Dame, Baylor, Oklahoma, Southern California, Texas A&M, Texas Tech & Auburn.
  6. (uhhhhh...did you read the chart?)
there is zero "ambiguity" in regards to P5
    universities.

(Big Boy) College: 8 of 10 P5 schools use "lettered intitial" to brand the majority of their spirit gear.

NFL: with exception of a few Chicago, Green Bay, NYG, San Fran...the Pros brand a majority of their spirit gear with "non-lettered" logos.

    HS- too many...doesn't matter.

Everyone is worried about losing our identity...change...or looking like everyone else?

Question: How well has going against the football college trends & traditions worked the last 100 years for North Texas?

Many P5 schools have changed or evolved their helmets over time...have we had a lot...yes...too many...maybe...it's ok....so has...TCU, Iowa State, Miss State, Wash State, Kansas State and many others...who cares...

    College Football is huge business...

I don't want North Texas to lose their identity....I just want North Texas to look more collegiate.

  7. ...not implying that the mascot logo schools are doing anything wrong...they're not...it works for their school.

My point is that North Texas needs to add a strong intitialed logo to the "current available" logos to use where best suited.

That's what the big schools do....it's more collegiate. Look at the bottom of my first comment....8 out of 10 P5's.

  8. NT is left out because the schools listed are P5 teams...the numbers show that this is how big boy colleges brand. P5s have a much better idea how to manage and market their brand vs the G5s.

This is less about helmets and more about collegiate marketing and branding as a whole. I would much rather have North Texas brand and market more like North Carolina, Baylor, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Auburn, West Virginia or Georgia Tech and less like Southern Miss, Troy, Florida Atlantic, Nevada, Western Michigan, Western Kentucky...or the University of Phoenix.

  9. Study of 65 D1-P5 schools football helmet logos

No Logos (number or with helmet striping) 6
Alabama, Boston College, Michigan, Notre Dame, Ohio State, Penn State

Mascot Logo (human, animal, paw, weapon, etc) 11
Arizona State, Arkansas, Florida State, Clemson, Iowa, Kansas State, Louisville, Michigan State, Missouri, Southern California, Texas

    Lettered/Mascot Logo (combination of...) 9
Colorado, LSU, Maryland, Oregon, South Carolina, TCU, Virginia, Washington State

Lettered Logo (1,2 or 3 initials or named spelled out) 39
Arizona, Auburn, Baylor, Duke, California, Georgia, Georgia Tech, Indiana, Illinois, Iowa State, Kansas, Kentucky, Minnesota, Ole Miss, Mississippi State, Miami, Nebraska, North Carolina, North Carolina State, Northwestern, Oklahoma, OSU, Pittsburg, Purdue, Rutgers, Stanford, Syracuse, Tennessee, Texas A&M, Texas Tech, Virginia Tech, Wake Forrest, Washington, West Virginia, Wisconsin, UCLA, Vanderbilt

*with exceptions to Arkansas, Clemson, K-State, Louisville, Penn State & Texas...most every P5 college (88%) has a strong abbreviated initialed logo. That initialed logo is used as a branding tool on a large amount of their school's spirit merchandise.

  10. jquincy...the point is...for our Athletic Dept. to push for an additional NT logo to our current brand assortment.

Do we want to look & brand more like P5 school or G5 school?

Add the same NT that is used on our letterman jacket.

That way North Texas can use it when and where as needed.

Question: What logo do the schools, that you listed, put on their baseball team hat?

Answer: Texas = T, Florida State = interlocked FS, Southern Cal = interlocked SC, Clemson = C, Michigan State = Spartan Head or S. Ole Miss = M, Florida = F

most schools have a good lettered logo...whether its one, two or three letters doesn't matter. Looks more collegiate.

    expand the brand

  11. Eagle Mans top 12 collegiate logos are all P5 schools...with one exception to SMU the lone G5.

(the church boys in Dallas can thank the Ford men in Detroit for designing their Mustang logo)

These logos are simple, balanced and easy to identify. They all have traditional college look and feel.
