  1. It is not separate, actually. Many of the hotel and restaurant employees are HRM students. It's a fully functioning hotel with conference areas and classrooms. We would have booked our room there this weekend, but we got a pretty great rate at the Hilton Americas in downtown instead.

See, I mentioned going to Houston this weekend... because we're going to the football game... which means I posted about football and stayed on topi--

    Aw, hell, I tried, anyway.

Sorry for showing my UH igonrance. But is the UH Hilton College completely separate to the Hilton Hotel that is on campus?

It seems it might be a logical link since a lot of the hospitality degree deals with hotels.

  2. I might as well get on the SMU bandwagon too since that is the custom on this site. SMU hates us to this day because we put 95 points on them without even trying. The hate reignited after our backup QB came in after we took Keenum out and threw a bomb into the endzone. They say our fans are all a bunch of punks, but I don't even know where they could have gotten that from.

SMU disliked UH looooong before the 95-21 game. That game just made it worse. Do a little homework, maybe ask one or two of the older guys at Coogfans. Better yet, find an SMU alum who's around 50 or so and ask.

And you're not sure why SMU fans supposedly say Houston fans are a bunch of punks? After making at least two posts on this forum (and Zeus knows where else on the internet) about dumping beer and red paint on UNT fans and bragging about how rough and skeery it is for other schools to play at the Rob?

The fungus thread.... it spreads like kudzu....

  3. Tailgating can pretty much happen anywhere. The parking lot right around the stadium has sections that are pre-assigned to groups like the H Association (lettermen's group) and season ticketholders. People tailgate in their parking spaces, in the medians around the parking spaces, in the grassy areas bordering the parking lots, all over the place. Plenty of the visiting team's fans strike up tents and canopies and are welcome to do so.

The area around campus is going to be well patrolled by security and law enforcement on game day. Be smart, but don't be paranoid about becoming the 5th (or is it the 57th? the number seems to keep changing) robbery victim in broad daylight this week. My entire time at UH, when the neighborhood around the campus was worse in several ways, I never once got mugged or otherwise accosted.

  4. Well, I guess we can complain about the greeks putting up their letters and scaring the alumni.

You keep bringing up the UNT greeks. At least you did before, so presumably you're referring to them again. Are you referring to the one instance of hubbub that the advisory boards were informed of last season, or is there something else you're hinting at? I'm curious, because my husband and I are both on greek advisory boards here, and we haven't heard anything negative about the greeks tailgating since the beginning of the 2011 season.

  5. If you were a student here, you wouldn't have that username and you wouldn't call it Cougar High. NTSU is going to get their teeth kicked in come Saturday.

I *was* a student at UH. My username is what it is because (a) it's what I majored in at UH and (b )it's a play on words with a football term. I wear my college ring that I earned before I graduated from UH every day when I'm attending graduate school at UNT. I am proud to be affiliated with both schools. I don't call one "Cougar High" and the other "NTSU."

You're right about Cougar fans talking a lot of smack. I've done it, largely in defense to UT, A&M, and SMU fans who looked down on me once they learned where I was going to school. But don't talk to these folks about how much deeper Houston's school spirit runs. The current spirited culture at UH is as strong as it is now because it went through a lot of apathetic, don't-care days. I know, because I was there.

If you're currently a freshman there, I've been a Coog longer than you've been alive. I admire your spirit and am glad there are fired-up students like you attending my undergrad alma mater. But it chaps my hide when people like you denigrate other schools in the name of "talking smack." It makes you sound like a snob.

I wish you luck in your school career and your possible football career.
