I have a sneaking suspicion that Littrell and company would not have parted ways with DaMarcus had there not been another QB they had in their back pocket.  My guess would be this might be a preferred walk-on transfer who could even be enrolled at UNT now, making him eligible to participate in Spring training.  Or perhaps, this could be another graduate transfer type situation that shows up in the Fall.  I think it would be a player who has experience in the spread offense.

I just don't see them letting DaMarcus go without knowing they had other options.  I think this will become known soon.

    You know somethin, dontcha?

I've said this for a while. Dillman is very much the best QB prospect we have on the roster. Now, he will have a coach who actually knows how to run an offense with a throwing QB.

He looks like a heck of an athlete, for sure. Looking forward to seeing what he can do

I totally agree with you that Lance turned into a big piece of the offense last season prior to his injuries. Especially when Dez & Tony went down and Randle lost his mind. I meant he made the team because he played special teams and played his butt off to become a serious part of the team. I disagree that he was ever a bigger part of that offense than Witten because Witten is a leader on that team, future Cowboys Ring of Honor, and possibly a Hall of Famer who's a great blocker as well as the proven go to guy. Go to guy if they could throw, which they couldn't without Romo.

I never liked Lance returning kickoffs either. I think it was evident how the team felt about him when we watched Garrett's reaction. Garrett looked distraught. That said, I don't think he's a spare. He was awesome before he was hurt. Now he's an unknown because of his injuries and the unknowns of his comeback. That's why the PUP list is in place. My hope is he comes back the same as before but time will tell. That's why he's a gamble business wise.

That's all fair enough for my tastes. +1

I don't really know what "Do you even Cowboys, bro?" means but I follow them daily. To say he's more important than Jason Witten is laughable at best. He made the team because he contributes on special teams and was absolutely #3 behind McFadden and Randle on the depth chart. Yes, he was important to the team but he may never be the same player he was after his injuries. I want him to come back and thrive but his injuries are a gamble from a business stand point. Hopefully he's fine because I love watching him play and he's a great success story.

Obviously I wasn't talking about carreers comparing LD and JW. I was only talking about the time when Dez and Tony were injured. And that's not laughable at all, it's reasonable, as he was leading the league in catches out of the backfield and was on pace to set the NFL record for catches out of the backfield in a season when he went down. Your implying Lance was only around for special teams has me shaking my head.

Lance was the most explosive player on O at that time without question, which was exactly what was lacking on the team for most of the season. His only problem has been injuries.

Lance Dunbar isn't whatever kind of NFL spare you think he is. He's a valuable asset to the Cowboys.

Edit: Here's what bloggingtheboys.com said about him after he went down for the season:

Dunbar would be the third major contributor to go on season-ending injured reserve this year, joining Orlando Scandrick and Terrell McClain. What looked to be such a promising season has been absolutely devastated by injuries, plus suspensions have also kept key players off the field. And we aren't talking marginal players here.

Dunbar had played himself into a major part of the offense, especially with Brandon Weeden as quarterback. He led all receivers in total yards going into the Saints game. His case is similar to Terrell McClain's in that he was proving to be more valuable than most had expected. Now he just joins the many wounded and will have to see what next year brings.

I thought that, too.  I'm not a Cowboy guy, but I don't understand why Dunbar is having to find a new home.

I'm hoping he isn't needing to, but that he's just playing the market to get the best deal he can. As a Cowboys fan, I hope that the 'boys give him enough to keep him. He's a potential game changer.

Even if he gets the league minimum, it's not a screwing. Its good money. I want to see him get paid too but he was/is a #3 RB coming off a big injury and there is a salary cap every team deals with.

Do you even Cowboys, bro? He was not the #3 RB. He was the utility back. And he was the most important skill player on the team after Jason when Tony and Dez were out. He might have even been more important than Jason at that time. His injuries are a concern, but when he's healthy, he is hugely important to the team.

No technically it is a tendon tear. Tendons and ligaments are similar structurally but not the same.

And I am guessing he meant ACL or MCL tear, specifically, which is more common in RBs. Not sure which is worse thought.

People come back from ACL tears close to 100% or at 100% most of the time. Achilles often ends careers.

When I went to NT and even for a long time after, I thought that, outside of the Ivy League schools, pretty much all colleges were regarded about the same in terms of their effectiveness at carrying out their non-athletic missions. That cluelessness is a big part of how I ended up at NT.  The reality is that SMU is on an entirely higher plane than NT as an institution. Regardless I care about NT and want to help NT ascend. Then I think about Rice which is on entirely higher plane than SMU as an instiution, and wonder how do their people let their program slum around with us. Clearly they just absolutely do not care. So I guess we're in good company.

UNT is an R1 institution. SMU, not so much.

You must have Edinburg and Brownsville confused. Brownsville is a pit...to put it nicely. Edinburg is good old ranch country with lots of citrus groves and vegetable fields in the area. Edinburg is where the big dog is; Brownsville was a satellite campus started on the grounds of Texas Southmost College (JC). In the day, it was referred to as "Texas Almost". If he passed on Pan American-Brownsville he made a wise choice. UTPA at Edinburg is where the administrators were.

It is probably me who is confused. It was UTPA that offered him, but I thought he visited Brownsville while there. Are they close?

Well, I hate to hear that. Sorry for your unpleasant visit. I wouldn't think wearing UNT gear would have mattered. I had no clue there was any animosity towards SMU from UNT people until I visited this board. I  only asked that because visiting fans during a football game at just about any school will catch a little grief but on just a regular visit, that's strange.

I don't hate you, and I don't hate SMUg (except sports hate, which is just for fun), but I do get why people feel the way they do about it. It's not out of nowhere.

Oh, and hey, 1000 posts, woohoo!

I agree. I think that schools that end up with monikers like that have administrations that pander to many diverse constituencies in an effort to please them all. Sort of an elephant designed by a committee. As far as I am concerned, it will always be Pan American.

My brother almost played basketball for them. He really enjoyed the visit, but didn't like Brownsville too much.
