This is a great hire and I hope he turns out to be a great AD. C. Dan is more than onboard. He's been one hell of a UNT supporter. Get your tickets folks!

This is funny stuff. It looks like he catches hell for not missing a meal and getting lucky in new jobs. I like it... https://twitter.com/fakewrenbaker

According to this story Wren Baker had a salary of $230,000 as of last summer as Missouri's Deputy AD. For comparison, RV was in the $300k base salary range according to published reports.
Holy Shit.

I just don't understand why UM would put together a search committee, when they have such a young and dynamic candidate already in house. Good grief, that sounds so, well, ........... old time North Texas.
They've made it pretty clear they want the Northern Illinois AD. In addition, they are soliciting big name AD's. I should also mention that they hope Baker stays on as Deputy AD or whatever they call second fiddle. That's a good sign.

Baker almost seems too good to be true...
Lower Level AD experience? Check
Fundraising in a tougher environment then NT? Check
Hiring successful, winning coaches? Check
Work his way up through a regional Athletic Department from a program (Memphis) that has been successful on a level NT can be successful at? Check
Work at a large P5 SEC school? Check.
Have regional ties (oklahoma)? Check
Young, energetic guy who dreams of nothing but being a D1 athletic director? Check
I really really think that this would be a steal for North Texas. Make it happen BOR, and North Texas might finally wake up and be a player in college athletics.
I think you are on target here. Just a few more "checks" and we will have ourselves a new AD. Oh man! This is exciting.

This would be huge for UNT.

Boy could the timing be worse for us? We need our new AD out there shaking hands and kissing babies right now. Maybe Hank is filling the void?
No doubt. The new guy needs to hurry and work a little magic with "all of his connections." :)

Expect all paperwork complete by EOB tomorrow and an announcement following as soon as logistically smart.

The main point being it's an energetic outsider. I think that was a lot of the concern here on the forum. More to follow. Dottin' "i"s and crossin' "t"s. Should be done sooner than later.

Got word the new AD has a great record, energetic and young, and is not a hire from within. Great news in my opinion.

Good prediction based on the past. I talked with a UNT football coach this past weekend and he said they are "all-in" on beating SMU. He said the priority is winning the first one, winning at home, and just winning. Coach speak, of course, but said we will know a lot about the team and the season after the first game.

That would be great. Has anyone contacted Seth?

Got my seats and had a very pleasant experience. No problemos.

This will likely start a rash of new marketing slogans

I am just impressed we fired RV since our most important donor was his friend. This says a lot about our PREZ. I'm also impressed we are having a very visible search for the new AD since we have many other VIDs (Very Important Donors) that are pushing for Hank. I can only hope that since the PREZ has stuck to his guns and sent friends of his own packing that he will do the right thing and let the search committee pick a nationally prominent AD. I really think this will happen and all the HANK NOISE will go mostly away.

I think most will wait to commit support until the hire has been made and the name is revealed. For example, if current personnel are named, which I don't think will happen, I think some will not support this move, and rightly so. We don't need anymore "wait and see", "one more chance", or "maybe next year." We need action! If it's a name from outside the university, I think that more people will support that person, regardless of experience or past. I think all will have an opinion but most will support. So, lets see where the cards fall. I think they will fall the right direction but there's always that group of insiders that want little change and push internal names. This would be no bueno in my opinion.

I like the creativity for acquiring players and I think it should continue but hope less of it will be needed with new recruiting personnel. I also know that locker rooms, facilities, and uniforms are a big part of recruiting. ...and winning.

No Hank. Trip and Co. will ensure its a name with potential. You don't get this many people making this decision to stay internal. That would be a major fail.

Great times. Would be better if home games were not on opening day of hunting season but that's pickin quite a bit. Good schedule.

I won't buy season tickets or join the Mean Green Club until I see who is hired as AD.
I won't buy season tickets or join the Mean Green Club until Benford is fired
I won't buy season tickets or join the Mean Green Club until one of the members of the Athletic Staff is nice to me
I won't buy season tickets or join the Mean Green Club until they stop putting so much ice in my drink at Apogee
Please feel free to insert your own lame excuse for not supporting North Texas Athletics
I just purchased 4 tickets in the Club Level, today, upon hearing the news. There was not a crowd there so I assume many of you are doing this by phone. Let's get more butts in the seats and Go Mean Green!!!

MGB: Sources say Baker is UNT's leading candidate heading into call on Friday

We came in quick on WB. Mizery had him in the mix but wasn't ready to pull the trigger. They have an image problem right now, much like us, where they need to assure the masses they are doing the right thing. It would be similar to UNT offering a young and upcoming asst AD on staff the job because he was offered a position elsewhere (although we didn't really have one). We wouldn't have liked it.
I'm excited about our future and hopefully he can right the ship.
