  1. i didn't see the hat, so i don't know what it looks like. But if u live in the denton area, the Hat World in the Golden Triangle Mall has tons of nice UNT hats...if u check it out u might see the one DD wore back on topic...yeah, the band members were idiots for flashin the hook 'em. they should get in a little trouble, but i think kickin' them off the squad (and especially out of school) is going too far. they jus need to realize that if they like the opposing team more, they should celebrate to themselves.
  2. i just wanted to clear something up by saying im not a fair-weather or bandwagon fan. i didnt become a fan of the horns when VY got there, i cheered for UT when they were getting hammered by UCLA and K-state, and having 4-7 seasons (1997). the same is tru for NT though. i attend every home game i can, so i'd never forget about UNT: fry st., the horrible parking, etc.
  3. 5-7...really only 2 for sure wins (SMU & FAU) and 2 definite losses (UT & Tulsa). All of the conference games along with La. Tech & Akron are toss-ups to me. I got NT losing all their away games accounting for 7 total losses.
  4. good link. i updated my sig and avatar now. lemme know what yall think edit: i've always been more fond of the eagle than the mean green
  5. haha i like that group...i will say i never wore UT gear around campus though, that is taking it too far. actually at this point i'm pretty sure i have more Mean Green apparel than anything else
  6. that's cool. to each his own, and i will definitely have to just agree to disagree
  7. i was very proud of how wilson took the ball down the field on UT's "D" in the 3rd quarter. i was also proud of johnny quinn for playing w/ a broken hand and still having his usual sure hands. you're assuming quite a lot by saying i have zero pride in the Mean Green. its possible to be a fan of two schools, even when those two schools play each other.
  8. i really do appreciate the civil reply. and i will definitely be at the tailgate on saturday. i always go. and since you're back i wanna personally say sry for calling u crazy/clueless/irrational in my first post. i should've taken my own advice and respected your opinion edit: i dont wanna double-post (again) lol, but yes, king, i am a fan of UNT football and the athletic program in general
  9. wow...what is y'all's problem? haha, crap! i only posted b/c i thought the topic starter was being pretty rude by calling Mack Brown a prick lol! i admit i said some rude things myself (i called him clueless, crazy, irrational, etc.) and i apologized for it. so can't we just call a truce and agree to disagree?
  10. Why, the wonderful University of North Texas no doubt!
  11. i was the only person who said they were a "a fan of a school they have nothing to do with." so was i wrong in assuming you were referring to me?
  12. sry king, are u asking me or one of the other guys?
  13. sounds like a personal attack to me nope, you haven't been hostile at all
  14. if there is nothing in it for me, then how is this the easy way? i know that some UT alums don't respect fans who didn't attend their school (you find snobby ppl like this everywhere), but there are some UT alums which happen to be family friends and classmates of mine, who respect all UT fans no matter what school has their seal displayed on their tuition bill. I wonder why u feel the need to fling personal attacks at me. You said earlier that u don't appreciate ppl talking down on you, but u seem to be the only one talking down on anyone. and no, i have not ditched my school, you don't even know me
  15. i dont think i have come down on you, zeke, emmitt, or e-bone for being good NT fans. the original topic of discussion was whether UT ran it up to impress pollers. I personally don't think they did, and it really is ok for someone to disagree w/ u about that or anything else for that matter. i just like how i become a shameless bootlicker who's green (no pun intended) w/ envy b/c i have the gall to disagree w/ someone
  16. "Okay Dr Phil!" haha i couldn't help noticing the Fever Pitch reference (gotta love Jimmy Falon) BTW i would never pass up a trip to Europe w/ my girlfriend to watch the TX - OU game LOL!!! NEways, i see ur point, but It's not that my school gave me a chance or that UT abandoned me. I chose my school based on its proximity so i could live at home and not have to live in a dorm or apartment ($$$). Austin would've be too far of a drive. UT won't lose my support simply b/c it was too far from home. Really it was just living expenses that kept me from going there, tuition at my school isn't much better so i guess the real culprits are my folks, dadgummit they shoulda moved to Austin!
  17. oic...im not allowed to be a texas fan because i didnt go to that school. i wish i had the money to go to the school i wanted but it doesn't always work out that way for everyone. its cool u feel that way, and i know i can't say NEthing to change ur mind. but i don't think i should have to change who i root for after i graduate high school in case i dont get to go to my favorite college and its not like i just "picked" any old team. i live in Texas and i'm proud of this state and its football tradition (especially high school). it would be different if i was a fan of a school that i have no geographical connection w/. i cheer for all colleges in this state and i hope they succeed, i just like UT the best (for reasons i already elaborated on). so i would love to see the day where UT, TX tech, TX A&M, and baylor could top the Big XII south and have the state of Texas rule the conference. The same is true for schools like houston, rice, TCU, SMU, UNT, etc. i want them all to do well in their conferences and have good seasons.
  18. i guess i'm slow so u might have to let me know what ur talkin about lol!
  19. ok. change of possession is just like getting a first down now. i admit i knew about kickoffs but not that. so the clock would have worked the same whether TX converted on their 4th down attempts or not. and i didn't say u didn't know what u were talking about (ie: rules) i meant that u weren't trying to understand the other guys' point. o well, the game is over so I'll try to be done w/ this topic edit later in the day: so much for that idea lol
  20. Well, as i expected, this topic isn't going anywhere and I must admit I am just as guilty as anyone else for making it that way. Im gonna try and just put all my points in a short (hopefully) list and u can flame me for it if u like: - As the game went on fewer starters were on the field (3rd string QB, 3rd string RB, and backup OL) - It was only 28-7 when TX ran their "trick" play on 4th down, and if UT had punted and allowed another TD, its 28-14! I do see how NT fans could see that as classless (maybe u guys already thought the game was over), but do u think a TX fan would put up with mack brown NOT trying to put it away for good. The man has a job to do and part of that job is to please fans, boosters, and AD admins. - about the '04 game, i said earlier that i dont see anything wrong with scoring a lot in the first half (trust me, ive been on the bad end of one-half blowouts lol), so i guess this is just the root of where our opinions differ. i think it is the job of the overmatched team to try and keep it respectable for at least one half. the box score was 24, 20, 14, 7 for TX in 2004; which, to me, is evidence of a decreased desire by TX to put pts on the board as the game went on. i consider that calling off the dogs My last statement is that I'm not a UT alum. I would've loved to attend school in Austin, but it was too expensive for me. I'm a texas fan from heredity. my father, not a college grad, has been a tx fan since 1959; he has been able to see them win all 4 of their nat'l titles, and almost got a chance to meet Darrell Royal in 1970. I started cheering for TX in the 5th grade when watching the games w/ my family on saturdays. I am a fan of the school i do attend, but i must say i'm an orange-blood first lol. heck i've even had a friend play for OU and a family member play for A&M. I hope they do well, but i still want 'em to lose when they play TX lol.
  21. You are seriously one helluva Texas hater lol. I bet you weren't whining when North Texas hammered Baylor 52-14 in '03. Did UNT run it up? Not in my opinion. Even though the game was clearly out of reach, UNT contunued to score TDs, but Baylor should have stopped them. The truth is that you will continue to state arguments that make little to no sense. You talked about TX kicking a FG at the end of the first half in '04, but the key term there is FIRST HALF. What should they do? Down it? That's a joke! You will find that just about everyone agrees that a team can score as much as they want in the 1st half and still have class. If the loser doesn't like it, they can do better next time. Also, Texas' TD pass to Sweed in the 2nd half was a short hitch route, not a deep score attempt like the first TD he had. It's not Mack's fault that Sweed broke three tackles! Besdides, it was only 28-7 at that point, so it wasn't a blowout...yet. You're right about one thing though, going for it on fourth doesn't run clock if you don't convert, but it does if you DO convert. That's what DalHornFan was saying. But not converting, despite the clock stopping, does give the ball to the other team. So, as usual, you failed to make an honest attempt at understanding someone else's point.
  22. Please don't label my response to the topic starter as rude considering the language he used to describe a classy (IMHO) ball coach as a prick. i didn't intend to flame (if i did), i actually thought my post was considerably less derogatory than that of the topic starter. But, if i misled anyone about my tone (btw ive realized it can be very hard to judge the tone of a post from a message board lol), then that's my bad. Regarding the game, i see ur point, i guess i just don't agree. I've seen other coaches run it up in a much more deliberate way. So i saw nothing wrong with how it went yesterday. I think Texas had the right to win and to win decisively. He wasn't chunking deep TD passes or running trick plays in order to get 56 pts. The same is true when Texas beat Colorado 70-3 last year and when OU worked A&M 77-0 a few years back. They couldn't help the number of pts they scored when the other team made so many errors. In both of those games the winner scored ZERO pts in the 4th qtr, if that's not calling off the dogs i dont know what is. In 2002 & 2004 the horns played hard and tried to score for at least a whole half. I really don't care what the score is. I've been on the losing end in blowouts (as a player, fan, etc.), and i never held it against the teams who scored as much as they could in the first half. 2002's 27-0 isn't even that bad. who cares if their starters were in, they didnt score ANY pts in the second half! and i'm sry, but TX couldn't help but hang 65 on UNT in '04, they were a good team (rose bowl champs that year) and 7 of their 8 TDs were on the ground; so its not like they aired it out! PS - I didn't know the board was yours, i guess i should know my place next time
  23. Yeah, i guess its crazy for a coach to actually try to make his team look good. I mean, who wants to get the millions of dollars that come from making it to a BCS bowl lol! With TX's rose bowl bid over Cal...well i guess the better team went to the Rose considering how that "good" Cal team got embarrassed by TX Tech in the Holiday. But that really has nothing to do w/ yesterday's game. Let's just look at the facts: box score for TX - 14, 14, 14, 14...running it up or just consistent play? Texas' 2nd half touchdowns (4 total): 2 rushing (scored by the 2nd and 3rd string RBs), 1 pass (a hitch that went to the house due to poor tackling ), and one fumble return (obviously a UNT mistake that the backup UT defense forced). Regarding 4th down attempts...I'll be honest that I dont remember, but the stat book I looked at online only has 2 4th down tries for TX. Like i said this may be a mistake, but if not then that doesn't seem too bad. I don't understand what the fuss is about. I was impressed w/ North Texas. Thomas got it going in the second half and had good runs against a top teir "D". Wilson looked impressive and Jackson appears like he'll compliment Quinn really well at WR. Texas was just better and there is no shame in that. UNT should do very well next week and throughout conference play. But I guess I'm not surprised, there has been and always be Texas haters no matter what happens PS - there really wasn't a reason to be rude and tell me to shut up...this discussion isn't personal bro. It's okay that we have differing opinions, and I do apologize if I sounded rude in either this or my previous posts
  24. You sir, are clueless. First off, UT took their starters out in the second half for the specific purpose of not running up the score. He could've hung 70 on UNT if he had wanted to. As for going for it on 4th, college teams go for it on 4th all the time. This isn't the NFL! He wants to get his offense as many reps as possible so the new QB has as more experience going into next week. Also, you're crazy if you think Mack Brown actually believes he doesn't need a good QB to win a championship. That was a clip for a TV SHOW!!! You know...fiction! He plays the part of a player's parent who's giving the coach a hard time. I would assume that maybe you didn't know this, but the announcers talked about it b4 they played the clip. Like most of the other rational users on this board, I saw a Mack Brown who gave a lot of respect to Coach Dickey, UNT, and the Sun Belt in general. Was he looking forward to next week? Hell yes! Did he tell the media that? No way! He has more class than that, and he'd never disrespect another Coach's team or program. Call me a Mack Brown or Texas fanboy if you wish, but you know it's true. I think you were just bitter over the big loss when you typed your post...so I won't hold it against you .
