I don't know why I have to keep explaining this.
CUSA does not seed bowls by standing, except for the Liberty, and this year it seems CUSA is willing to change even that because the Liberty will not be a CUSA bowl next year.
The bowls pick in a unofficial order but the conference tries to put people in the place where they travel best. I don't see any way HoD would take Rice over us.
Did you skim over the part where I listed possible bowl bids by geographical fit?

We aren't technically eliminated, but I don't see how UNT makes it to the championship game.

I see it working out like this:
Rice beats Tulane, wins the West outright.
Rice goes to C-USA Championship vs. ECU, ECU wins.
ECU goes to Libery Bowl.
Rice goes to Hawaii Bowl.
Then it becomes a hot mess. Tulane, Marshall, MTSU, and North Texas need to go somewhere. (Assuming UTSA gets left out).
Best geographic fit:
Heart of Dallas - Tulane or North Texas
Military Bowl - MTSU or Marshall
Beef O'Brady's Bowl - Tulane or Marshall
New Orleans Bowl - Tulane, MTSU, or North Texas
If you go strictly by conference ranking (today):
Heart of Dallas - Marshall
Military Bowl - Tulane
Beef O' Brady's Bowl - North Texas
New Orleans Bowl - MTSU
Note - Heart of Dallas did select Houston in 2012 even though Houston was the #1 team out of C-USA

Lots of terrible blunders on the part of referees.
The pass interference non-call.
The "offsetting" pass interference on 3rd down when the ball was tipped.
The reviewed punt when they said the ruling on the field was the receiving team recovered the ball when they clearly did not.
Running the clock with less than a minute in the game after an offsides penalty.
UTSA knocking our players around after the whistle.
You can't blame the refs for us losing a game, but I can blame them for a lot of missed or bad calls in very crucial parts of the game.

Falling out of first and likely out of the conference championship game at home against a third year program we're favored over is one hell of a growing pain.
We are out. Nothing can get us in the championship game.

Correct. But, if Tulane beats Rice (and we beat Tulsa) there is a 3-way tie and we're technically co-division champions. We'd win the tiebreaker against Rice and probably get HoD over NO.

No chance of making the C-USA Championship Game now.
We'll probably end up in the Heart of Dallas Bowl or the New Orleans Bowl.
