  1. Very true, but most schools have PRE-Pharmacy and PRE-Med programs and it helps to attend those programs prior to applying to a College of Pharmacy. However, not every school has a highly recognized Pre-Med/Pre-Pharm program. This is bourne out by the acceptance rates to the limited numbers of Colleges of Pharmacy and Medicine. The following is a "cut-and-paste" from Abilene Christians' website. ACU's Acceptance Rates into Medical and Dental Schools: Last five years medical school acceptance rate is greater than 85% Last five years dental school acceptance rate is greater than 90% National acceptance rate approximately 45%. I don't know the exact acceptance rate for Pharmacy applicants from ACU, but I do know that the Dean of Pharmacy from U of H, Sunny Ohia, personally recruits from ACU Pre-Pharmacy students via campus visits. Oh, BTW, Janaye's older sister also goes to ACU... and Hedland doesn't. 'Nuf said.
  2. It's official. Only DU from SBC made the cut. They get the honor of playing Portland. Is Portland any good? Probably the best. Took it all a couple of years ago. Might take it all again this year, or NEXT YEAR. Wait, that's OUR year. Not sure what our non-conf schedule is for next year but if we play some tougher teams before conference, it should serve to increase the level of intensity, barring anymore injuries. If we do end up playing weaker teams again, I foresee UNT sticking with the possession gameplan longer and continue to possess the ball even when we're up by 3-4 goals. It appeared that in the games which had high output in the 1st half, the output dropped dramatically the 2nd half. Shot percentages went way down. Goals were fewer. Seems like there were more shots taken from way outside the box. Just a natural reaction, I'm sure. That goal starts to look HUGE when the ball has ripped out the back of the net during the first half. We can still use those weaker teams to refine our possession game and the #'s should come anyway... By the time we get to WKU, MUTS, DU and I guess UALR now, at years end, the possession game should be pretty sharp and nearly second nature. DU at Denver? Piece of cake. I know of one UNT player that was on a U12 or U13 team (too long ago) in Colorado that played DU on DU's field and only lost 3-0. If I remember correctly, I believe DU was nationally ranked that season. (probably a rumor to intimidate those little girls) Anyway, DU can be had... Hooker was coaching both teams so maybe he had the little ones take it easy on the nationally ranked team.
  3. With the loss to OU, who didn't qualify to play in the Big 12 Conference Tourney AND the loss to SMU who didn't qualify for the C-USA tournament AND falling completely out of the central region Soccer Buzz rankings AND by losing to SMU which helped elevate them to RV status for the Central region, they stand a better chance of getting in than UNT and I don't even think SMU will get in. Nope, I'd venture a guess that UNT will be on the outside looking in. That's OK, though. These girls need to heal up and get healthy. Make their NCAA appearance when they can sustain a high level of play. Learn from this year and come back strong next year. Only 4 seniors leaving (I know, I know... Slavonic, Hutyra, Weller and Ellis, we'll miss them all) so our bench should be stacked with additional recruited, recovered replacements. I think that in spite of all the injuries, this team remained competitive in our conference. They should be REALLY good next year given all the seasoning that took place this year. I believe that bringing Kevin Smith back for some of his workouts would help as well. I also like the idea of scrimmaging with a mens team, too. Shirley , there's a team out there that we can find to play.
  4. The ladies won today against LALA 3-1. Hutyra scores twice, Ayala heads a goal OFF A CORNER KICK!!! YAY
  5. Oh, I almost forgot... At halftime, let's all break out in Joan Baez's rousing rendition of Kum Ba Yah followed up with an uptempo saxaphone riff and ending with a blistering version of another Joan Baez favorite, "We Shall Overcome". Whew!!! Go Mean Green
  6. It's OK. My therapist told me to write it all down too... But then he told me not to mail it. If you didn't care, you wouldn't even be a member of this board. Historically, you've done nothing but offer constructive and insightful comments. You've done a lot for this team so one splash isn't going to empty the pool. I know everyone is frustrated, especially the ladies. How tough it must be to go to practice everyday and run, run, run for the full practice time (that's gotta be fun), traveling halfway across the country, taking the pitch, working your butt off for 1 1/2 hrs and coming away with an "L" and then another "L". Just be glad we're not living in Troy, Alabama or Jonesboro, Arkansas. How tough would that be? One more home game... I'd love to see the ladies take the field all together. Show DU that they OWN this turf. Come out again at halftime together, take their warmup runs together and show all they're united in this effort. Come away with a "W" and use that mindset and momentum to plow through the conference tourney. What a way to erase a few bad games. Keep your chin up, ladies. And fans, let them know that their hard work is appreciated. Let's all show up and give them fan support like they've never experienced before. I know it may take more than that to get them outta the funk, but it sure won't hurt to start there. I know one player in particular that is chomping at the bit to reintroduce herself to Hooker and some old teammates, and not in a good way... This is the game she's waited for all year. Go Mean Green!!!
  7. It was raining all day in NO and I wanted to stay on high ground. Besides, it's not crawdad season yet. I'm sure glad I was wrong about the ASU outcome. I hear the ASU fields were a bit of a mess due to the recent rain. In those games, anything can happen. I am planning to drive (day trip) up to watch the UALR game tomorrow. Anyone wanting a ride is welcome. Pulling out at 7:45 AM... Be back at 8:30 PM. It should be a very good game. Oh, by the way (click link) http://www.geocities.com/Hollywood/Cinema/5730/surely.wav
  8. Apologies in advance but I am stuck in beautiful New Orleans watching "Airplane" for the 50th time with nothing better to do and can't leave until tomorrow. So, I thought I would take a stab at prognosticating the remainder of the UNT soccer season. A lot of research was done to arrive at the conclusions that I have reached, so... here goes. UNT VS ASU - I know that they are 3-9-1 but I'm going to have to go with ASU. ASU has beaten every team from Texas this season (Texas State and Prairie view A&M) I know that these 2 teams are a combined 5-19-2 but they ARE from Texas so the logic is solid..Yes? Secondly, the ASU goal keeper is 6' 1". Rumor is, all she has to do is stand there and do jumping jax FURIOUSLY for 1 1/2 hrs and no shots get past her. UNT VS UALR - I am going with UALR because after UNT loses to ASU, UNT will have been winless against all teams from Arkansas and, therefore, will not defeat UALR. In addition, UALR has 5 or 6 team members that have unisex names. I am of the opinion that these are really ringer male players that have cleverly disguised themselves as female soccer players. Also, UALR has only lost once on Sunday. Even in that loss, If the WKU goalie had only made 2 saves instead of 7, UALR would have won. See? UNT VS WKU - Sorry again, but I pick WKU to win because they only have 2 rostered players that are from Kentucky. Any more than that and I would have picked UNT. UNT VS MUTS - Once again, I'm going to have to go with the home team, MUTS. They have a girl on that team named Ingrid. I don't know about you, but the name Ingrid really intimidates me and gives me flashbacks to the Old East German Olympic Team Ingrids. Quite scarey. DU VS UNT - Well, here's a pick that will make everyone happy except DU. I pick UNT because.... now follow me here.... Starting the beginning of Conference play, DU has gone T-W-L-W-T-W..... Now if you continue DU's pattern of W-L-T's, it so happens that an "L" falls on the day UNT and DU play. So, there you have it. Also, UNT will be ready and able to kick the livin' tar outta them. This is UNT's year. Feel free to agree or disagree... Or just laugh. that's OK with me ;0)

  10. Keep up the good work! Now let's get FAU. DU lost 0-1
  11. Credit Hedlund for making the quick and accurate adjustments. It appears that the changes to the formation and strategy have reaped immediate results. Most of all, credit the ladies for being able to digest and implement these changes so fast and effectively. From what I've seen, the ladies have enjoyed many more "quality" chances to score. Already, you see shot distribution leveling out, more passing activity going forward and most importantly, the shots are coming from 6-18 yds as opposed to 18-30 yds. Very nice to see. As I stated early on this season, the coach (Hedland vs Hooker) that gets his team to focus on "TEAM" play as opposed to individual stats should come out on top. It looks like Hedland has the edge today, but it is still a long season and injuries have not been kind to this team. Having said that, kudos to the ladies that stepped up to fill in so capably. Without giving away too much about the changes (you never know who reads these boards), you need to come out to the games and see for yourselves. This team is very exciting to watch. The big beef about soccer is that it is so low scoring and not enough action. Well, with the #2 offense in the nation, that is not usually a problem with the ladies at UNT.

  13. The Mean Green had five players named to the Holiday Express all-tournament team. Cleveland, Heather Hutyra, Kandice Ellis, Gennifer Hurst, and Janaye Woods all were named to the all-tournament team. It should have been 11. They played great. Slavonic, Eckert, Herron, Ayala, Juett, Hall, Wicker, Stewart, etc... Great job ladies.
  14. Not a lot we can do until the girls travel to OU to play OU (2-0-0) and #23 Long Beach. If they can go in there at 6-0-0 and come out 8-0-0 or 7-0-1, we'll see how the pollsters and the NCAA tourney team selection committee digests that. Not looking ahead, just laying out a possible scenario. We'll see... In the final analysis, what does it take to get even one more NCAA bid for the SBC besides winning the tourney. All fretting aside, the girls are a lot of fun to watch. I love their game. GMG
  15. I hate to make the comparison, but the way to get recognition in football is to run-up the score and PR, PR, PR... Is that what the pollsters want? As far as DU??? I don't know. What I do know is that the National chairman for the rankings committee is from Fairfield. Running in the same circles as CU/Fairfield brings instant recognition, regardless of record or conference strength. Maybe we should start running in different circles for non-conf games.
