  1. It's a basketball game, not a concert competition.

We don't award style points in basketball to the team that dribbles the best or makes the cleanest passes. Success is measured in outscoring opponents. For pep bands, success isn't measured in musical precision but rather in the group's ability to rally the fans, that is after all why they are there.

UNT's band might kick ASU's tail in a band competition but I think you ought to listen to what your fans are saying and understand that the point at a basketball game is for the band to get the fans to be a factor in the game. Musical precision is worthless if all it inspires is a tepid reaction.

  2. The FCC regulation is quite different.

They don't regulate newspapers and magazines. They don't regulate public demonstrations. They don't regulate PPV content (which includes regular cable content). They don't regulate satellite distributed content. They don't regulate internet distributed content. They don't even regulate cell phone conversation content.

What the FCC regulates is the use of three small swatches (now four soon to be three again) of the radio frequency spectrum. The areas set aside for AM radio, FM radio, Analog TV, and Digital TV (eventually the Analog frequencies will be returned to the gov't for other use).

Those small areas of spectrum are reserved for use in the public interest and to be available free of charge to the listener/viewer. There are a limited number of licenses that can be issued in any geographic area. Most are issued to commercial entities who agree to operate within certain content constraints, and another group are issued to non-commercial entities who agree to operate within even more constraints.

If the FCC said no swastikas (assuming the regulation were upheld by the courts) you could still see them to your hearts content via streaming video, DVD/VCR, satellite and cable.

  3. There are always some KA's who miss the good parts and just want an excuse to be wave a rebel flag, wear a confederate uniform, get drunk and yell at people.

Couple of my best friends were KA's and not a bit racist, some of the people I most detest were KA and the biggest racists I've known.

Back in the 70's the KA's at stAte had to quit shooting the cannon on campus. They had the misfortune of the delay fuse not going off until a blind girl and her dog came walking by. The dog panicked and drug her out in to traffic, no one hurt, but not popular with Dean Moore. Dean Moore trips were never fun and "it seemed like a good idea at the time" was very bad answer. Told my older brother that, and he said if he'd known I was going to see Dean Moore he would have told me that. laugh.gif

  4. Going to I-AA, UNT would save aproximately $300,000 in scholarships and $100,000 in salaries.

Revenue from game guarantees would fall at least $600,000.

Net loss of $200,000 to the budget ASSUMING no drop in ticket sales, donations, and sponsorships.

In other words a horrible financial decision.

  5. The #1 and co #2 teams in CUSA are leaving along with South Florida. They replace them with winless UCF, a Marshall team that built with four wins over MAC schools that probably would not have won a single Belt game, a UTEP team that just lost to Tulsa, and three private schools.

The gap is going to narrow.

What we need is out-of-conference success.

  6. Outgrown the Sun Belt? Please.

Boise State hasn't outgrown the WAC and they've not lost a game (conference or non-conference since the third game of last season).

Utah hasn't outgrown the MWC and they've not lost a game (conference or non-conference) since October of last year.

Take care of business in AND out of conference and you'll get a chance to play for $1 million like Boise or $11 million like Utah.

  7. I really believe we will get in based on our potential. CUSA took a chance with S. Florida because of their potential. They didn't have good BB, but a solid FB program and lots of room for growth.

CUSA didn't take South Florida because of potential. They were a charter member because they had a good hoops reputation and got football in because basketball had opened the door.

Are you talking about the Big East and South Florida?

  8. Remember that Cincinnati came to the New Orleans Bowl last year because of the Hawaii/Cincinnati game had ended in a brawl. It would have been a fantastic rematch because it had been a close exciting game.

I believe that Hawaii also brawled with Tulane.

Say what you want about any of those schools but the only team I've heard of them fighting with was always the same one. Hawaii.

  9. The Sun Belt board data is hosted on a database at Tribalgrounds.com. We've installed scripts at tribalgrounds.com, gomeangreen.com, and littlerocktrojans.com to access that database. Eventually I'll get around to also installing it on privateerisland.net.

Right now I think it is unlikely that I'll install this style board because it looks like it will be rather difficult to run four versions all sharing the same database.

However if the maturity level doesn't raise on the board pretty soon something is going to have to change.

  10. I've added the adjustment for Daylight Savings Time.

If the time isn't displaying correctly, click Your Control Panel in the box Logged in as:

Scroll past Messenger and Personal Profile to Options.

    Under Options click Board Settings

Use the pulldown to adjust your time zone.
