  1. Ignoring the score of Saturday's game for a second, Saturday afternoon made me proud to be an alum of North Texas:

Three hours before game time, Voertman's spirit section was more crowded than the book section is on the first day of classes! How great is that?! I was buying an NT shirt for a fan who hasn't been to a game before and was just so proud to see our bookstore as crowded as I've seen the A&M bookstore before kickoff.

Driving up to the tailgate lot, we had to wait in line for over 20 mins just to find out the lot was already full. Seems like it would be a negative, but there's no greater feeling than the pride that fills you up as you watch people of all types (students, young families, eldery) rushing past you in shades of green to get a good spot at tailgating.

Because the lot was full, we had to drag our stuff from free parking. I'd like to take a second to say thank you so much to the man who walked up and helped my boyfriend lug a 60+ pound ice chest from the lot by Clark allllll the way to the tailgating area. He wouldn't even take a drink as a thank you! He definitely showed the Mean Green spirit so I thought he might read this board. If so, thanks so much!

I've NEVER seen anything like the tailgating on Saturday. EVERY row and EVERY spot was filled with people having a good time on game day. There was just this energy, this excitment in the air. Not since the Baylor game have I seen so many people packed in and felt such a surge at Fouts. I'm so proud to have been part of it all and watch it build in the four years since I've followed the team.

Don't let this devestating loss get us down. Attendance wise, those freshman will be back. Those first-timers will be back. Football at North Texas has become a social event. If all their friends are going, they aren't gonna stay home cause we lost terribly in the last game. Be glad you were a part of building what we saw Saturday in the parking lots.

  2. I don't see why you couldn't pay for a couple of parking spaces in the green lot,

Yes, so how does all that work? Now that I'm all grown up laugh.gif , this will be my first year to actually park in that lot and tailgate. (used to just walk around and steal everyone elses beer/food/chairs!!) How early do you really have to get there to get a spot and how much is it?

And, GreenNawlinsVet, an RV?! Did you move??

  3. I don't understand why homecoming wasn't rescheduled for the by-week. Isn't that Oct. 1 or something? Homecoming in the middle of Nov. sounds like a joke. That isn't homecoming at all. It'll probably be freezing....never good for tailgating. I hate going to games and freezing my butt off.

The last two years have been amazing homecoming afternoons. Beautiful clear Oct. skies, good times tailgating in the hot sun and fun reunions during the game and after. Not sure how many people will get the word it's been moved so who knows about the reunion part this year.

But on the up side, atleast we were able to get that one game in.

  4. So I'm in grad school right now working towards a master's in education and certification to teach K-4th. I already work in the afternoons but I desperately need a morning part-time job. Something running 8am-noon or so. I have a BA from North Texas (in public relations) and over six years of expierence working with elementary age kids.

I'd greatly appreciate any leads on jobs w/kids, jobs in an office setting or pretty much anything available in the morning!! Please PM or e-mail me!

    Thanks so much!

  5. Sherpard Smith of FoxNews is just standing in the french quarter reporting. He says the whole thing could be gone tomorrow morning. Hopefully he'll be ok.....

This is such a terrible thing and is even more impactful since after being there for the bowl games, you know exactly where everything is they are talking about. I can't imaging camping out in the superdome. I hope to God it withstands the winds for all those who are using it as a last resort shelter.

My prayers are with everyone there.

  6. Thanks for the responses. I think we are probably gonna end up going (hopefully I won't go bankrupt from gas prices for my SUV!) Those civil war sights would be interesting to see. And mostly it will just be great to see the mean green on the road.

  7. So I'm thinking of dragging my boyfriend on a road trip up to Tennessee for that second game of the season......I'm just wondering from those of you who've made that trip how it is? How far is it from Dallas? (Yahoo maps says 11 hrs) And is it a pretty drive or boring?? Never been up that way and think it would be fun.

Anybody's expierence would be appreciated. Thanks!
