  1. The issue was the play calling. Hands down the worst play calling I have seen in years. A coach who wants to win will not sit on the ball the last 2 minutes of the game with a 2 or 4 point lead. The result... we get two awful deep 3 point shots a rushed shot in the paint and a shot clock violation! He must have reached into Avery Johnson's playbook a bit... You will never see Coach K attempt to sit on a lead. But two years in a row our play calling has been sub par and we have left hot springs empty handed.

Please elaborate, what specific plays did we call and what plays should we have called? I like the play that WKU called when they almost throw it away and have a guy laying on the ground almost out of bounds and then have a guy hit a 3 , their coach is a genius. They hit shots down the stretch, we didn't. Plain and simple.

  2. I heard a long time ago that you can lead a horse to water but you cant make him drink. I am not giving the athletic dept. a pass but at some point it was up to the players.

And will people stop with the ignorant stereotypes that college athletes dont have to do anything but show up for class and all else is taking care of. This aint the movie Blue Chips, I had multiple multiple classes at UNT with both football and basketball players and they were always there for class and had to do the same as the rest of us. So give me a break with this preferential treatment crap that college athletes get.

All you are doing is diminishing the degrees that guys like George Odufawa and Quincy Williams earned and many others who were great student-athletes.

  3. A-State is in the bonus 9 1/2 minutes into the 2nd half and the double bonus with what 6 or 7 minutes left? We didnt get into the bonus until 6 minutes left in the game. We have 2 fouls called on us the last minute of the game, there wasn't a foul called on A-State the last 5 minutes and 13 seconds of the game. Am i looking too much into it or did we get hit by a little home cooking?

  4. Why...? Who is better then him in the post? Mitchel? Mitchel needs to be playing the 3 and creating his own shot. Niko can rebound, box out, defend in the paint, hustle up the court, create his own shot, drive it to the hole, knock down the three, and even more impressively pass better then just about anyone on our team.

Also where are all the Walton haters? He showed up tonight and he still hustles.

Guess what Skiver. Troy was in a zone most of the game. We had a ton of open looks from 3 point range b/c that is what a zone allows and we knocked down 9 three's until they finally had to match up with us man to man.

  5. I basically ticked down the list of PGs I could name immediately. K-State's I know by performance but don't remember his name for sure (Spaulding? Something like that).

Chris is something special... But most of those teams have 4 or 5 star upperclassmen at the point.

I may have been exaggerating a bit but I think Chris is special. I dont think he could start at Kansas or Baylor but I dont think it is that far fetched to think that he could start at OU, OSU, Tech, Iowa St, A&M, UT, or K-St.

  6. UALR has a bad record but have had a tough OOC schedule and has been close in a majority of their games. No excuse for the loss, if we shoot free throws then we win. Not being able to shoot the ball from the outside is killing us.

Dont forget though that a lot of times on the court that we dont have one guy that played college basketball last year. When we have Roger, Chris, Tony, Alzee, and Jordan on the floor none of those guys played last year much less played together. Just think how much better Big George, Tristan, and Quincy Williams and all those guys were when they were seniors as compared to when they first started here.

I really thought we would be doing much better at this point then we are but I had no idea we would be this bad of a shooting team. But we are young, just got to be patient. UALR had a senior PG leading them down the stretch last night.

  7. Just think what this team would be like if we had Adam McCoy. This is an absolutely terrible shooting team and Chris Jones can penetrate at will and it would be nice for him to have somebody to kick it out to. I think we beat Tech, maybe Columbia, and are right there with UT and LSU if we had anybody that could knock down a 3. 1 for 7 last night, shot horrible against LSU, were 6 for 25 against UT from downtown, and werent we like 1 for 13 or 0 for 13 against Tech? McCoy would at least hit a couple every game and had the potential to hit 5 or 6 a game. If we are going to have Chris Jones, JW, T-Mitch, Alzee, and Roger back then priority number 1 should be to go get a shooter............ Can the kid from Argyle shoot ?

I think talent wise and athletic wise we may be the most gifted or one of the most gifted team in the Belt but it is going to be tough for this group to win on the road with no shooters.

  8. My goodness... its like people have not watched basketball in 10 years!!! the 2-3 zone is what you utilize to shut down the three. If we put a body on number 41 we would have boarded better... We did not give up an open 3 in the 2-3 zone and forced 2 turnover! Number 41 did rebound when we went zone but if he can board over 3 men in the paint what do you expect against one man!?!?

Not to sound harsh here but this may be the most ridiculous thing I have ever read on here. You use the 2-3 zone to shut down the 3???? Even though in a 2-3 zone you give up open three after open three and if the other team hits a couple you promptly get out of it. I like the zone as a different look but I hated it last night, I thought we were doing fine in man to man.

  9. So hey what did you think of the 2-3 zone....? 0-3 from three and forced a couple turnovers when they were forced to throw it across the court... It also protects Tony from foul trouble... but ya know I was so dumb for thinking it would....

I really think we are going to go to it more and more. If tony plays in the center he will always have some help side D to keep him out of trouble and with Alzee and Jordans length a lot of turnovers should occur like tonight when we ran it.

Just curious on what game you were watching ? I hated that we went to a zone. They had open 3 after open 3 but thankfully they were not hitting. And most of their offensive boards came from missed shots in the zone. Its harder to block out when you are in a zone.

  10. Dude, we gave been getting trucked by SBC schools for 6 straight years--looks like a 7th is well on it's way. We just aren't that good right now. We have no depth on our lines and we can't make FGs. You don't win games against anyone when you are not able to win in the trenches and you can't make kicks.

How many times in the last 6 years have we been down 28-0 after 15 minutes of football in a conference game ? We looked like a D-2 or maybe D-3 team in that first quarter, that was embarrasing. I havent given up, I am optimistic about the future and I know it wont be as bad as last night but to make excuses about the game is pointless. It should not have been that bad even if we are starting 22 Freshman, its not like FIU is a hostile environment.
