  1. i am a reasonable man, just like KRAM and Andrew. if it becomes clear to me that Benford is the fault for poor performance, losses, etc than i won't hesitate saying such; i just haven't seen it yet.

that isn't to say this is all the players fault either; it is simply to say the team is more capable than it appears to playing. the cause, in my opinion, is still being determined. i, unlike many, didn't make up my mind after season one and continue to seek evidence to substantiate any forgone conclusions.

i hope we can all agree we want this team to play well, to represent our conference well and, most importantly, win.

now, enough with the fodder... let's go mean green!

I don't see how it is ok to be ok with what has transpired in the last year and a half. How can you be ok with what happened last year and the terrible losses this year and then getting by by the skin of our teeth at home against the opponents we have played. I don't buy into a win is a win against the D-2 and NAIA and other bad teams we have played. How we have been winning against these teams is not acceptable. Once a year is fine, every game is not ok.

  2. I was very excited and happy about our win against A&M the other day but realistically if you look at our schedule and quality of teams we should be at worst 9 wins and probably should have 11 wins. Still losing the way we have lost and winning by how we have been winning besides A&M game is concerning. Still have yet to see progress in year 2 as conference approaches.

  3. Seems someone is mad because they are going to lose a bet... I would have thrown a couple thousands dollars down on getting 12-15 wins. A win is a win. Nothing has happened this season that is really a surprise minus the loss against Columbia. To me the win against Portland negates that lose. I would have also liked to have lost by less to SFA and BYU. I also would have liked to beat many teams by 20. But our record is what most people thought. I had us going 8-4 at this point with losses to BYU, SFA, Oklahoma, and Portland. Being one game behind expectations is not all bad. If we were 8-4 there would be zero room for complaints.

Going into Conference play I thought we would be 9-5 with a lose to Texas A&M. At this point I see that game as a possible win so 9-5 is still a good possibility!

It's amazing that I almost said word for word what you would say. Unbelievable.

  4. So because you expected us to win to an NAIA school by 5, this win is acceptable?

That's nice that Benford gets a 40 point cushion. Hopefully we can cut the lead under 40 during mop-up time.

I guess you didn't sense the sarcasm there. We have read those kind of replies from a certain poster on here.

  5. Miss games like this (minus the MF Eagles by the student section):

Look how many people were there for a Sun Belt Conference game. We had finally gotten to a point to where we were getting 4 or 5 thousand in there on a regular basis and now look at us. Probably will struggle to get to 1,500 the rest of the year.

  6. Are we?

My first game last year was the UTA game and it might have been the worst defensive display I had ever seen. Didn't get much better as the year went on, wide open shots in the paint, open looks from 3, it was embarrassing. And never got better.

I was hoping this year would be better but it's not. Went to the Incarnate Word game and we give up 50 something points in the 2nd half. Then watch the BYU game and it is all the same. Open 3's, open shots in the paint, layups and I never see helpside defense. Inexcusable. I probably missed 3 or 4 games in the whole Trilli and Jones era but Benford has all but killed my interest. After sitting in the empty pit for the end of the Trilli era, I thought I would always be a die hard. But Tony B is making it hard.

  7. I am pretty sure it was not just missing practices.. again I am waiting for the person who had said what it was earlier to come here and say what it was. But also you don't want to just rag on the players just like you should not rag on the coach. I have heard of the differences in practices between JJ and Benford though. it seems like expectations are a bit higher under this coach. Again there have already been instances mentioned before about this and how a Jordan Williams lazy pass was addressed in practice by this coaching staff.

From everything that I heard, the only thing that the Benford regime has been tougher on is game day practices. I have heard that JJ was a lot tougher and more demanding. So when things weren't going well it was too late in the year for Benford to try to lay down the law. Then you had kids missing practices and what not.

  8. JJ was tough on the kids and had high expectations and didn't play around. Do you really think that these kids would have all graduated if it was an undisciplined program?

And I am not sure what Alzee was able to get away with in the past that he didn't get away with this year but I think that is BS. This is just my opinion but I think that it was such a bad year and Benford didn't come in and put his foot down at first and it cost him. Then you had guys missing practice or missing classes so he benched them.

A perfect example would be a new teacher who doesn't lay down the law the first day and then by the end of the year when kids are bad and acting up he is trying to enforce the rules but by then it is too late.

  9. Did I ever say I did many of things? Or are you just assuming? I'm out.... I will take a break and see what happens in hot springs. There is way to much negativity and it is literally clouding people's minds. I know there are people on these boards who know more then me... Some post and some do not post at all.... I am not some basketball God, but I do think that I know enough about the game. See some of you at the Thursday.

Just curious, and I hope you answer. How in any way is losing to ULM twice acceptable when they have only won 4 games? How can we not be negative when we are avid fans who had high expectations and this is what has happened?

  10. You are transitioning into a new system. It is beyond me that one one can understand this. It just makes it clear that no one on here has ever coached at a level beyond middle school. I get it... We had an excellent team last year one game away from going dancing. Benford inherited a great team. He still has to mold it into the team he wants and thinks can win. I have no other way of explaining this. People who are on my level completely understand. I then come on here and get "mocked" by people who have little clue. They sit in front of a computer and read stats or watch sports center for talking points. They could not even sit and watch a game and the second the ball crosses the court tell what offense they are running, where the ball is moving, and who is going to take the shot. I am not the best at this but I know plenty of people who can and those are the people who I will rely on. You watch the game and stare down Benford, or the refs. Others at least try to watch the game and see what should happen. I am sure it is difficult for me to explain it over the computer, but those are things you should look. Which way is the ball going to move, where are they going to trap, what offense are they running etc. This are things people should look at. It is really whatever... We can all have our own opinions, get along and support this mean green team.

    Benford,

LSU was 18-15 last year and are 14-8 this year. How do you explain the fact LSU players have seemed to learn JJ's system so fast?

  11. Explanation:

I tuned in right @ 16 minutes left in the 2nd half. We were up 52-37. Somehow ULM goes on a run and we blow a 15 point lead.

Last game I tuned into I noticed we were up on Arkansas State and they make back to back 3 pointers to go to OT and win. I'm talking within seconds of tuning in both times.

Do you know which game I didn't listen to? The FIU game.

I have a bad history with sports teams. In middle school we were terrible in football, as in the worst team in the city. 2 years after I leave they win the city championship. In high school I was in band and watched every football game, sophomore year they won 1

game, my last two years they didn't win a single game.

I went to WTAMU college before transferring to UNT, 3-9 the first year, 2-10 the second year. The next year I leave and they go 11-1 and win the conference championship. They win it 3 times in a row and go undefeated until the play offs in 2007. By now my High school team is also very good and has won city champs and been to the playoffs.

I transferred to UNT in 2005, I was told at orientation that we had a great team, that we hadn't lost in 21 conference games. That year we went 2-9. You guys know how the next seasons go.

So its really just me :P

(this is only a half serious post)

Man this post cracked me up.

    Benford,

Tony was ranked 2nd best player in Texas, Jordan was 6th, Roger was at Ok. st,, Alzee was great last year and has been a great Sun Belt player...........How do you have that and still lose to Monroe twice? They should be able to go out and play knockout everyday in practice and then still go beat Monroe. Shouldn't take 25 games to learn how to defend or get good shots in an offense. But of course since you have coached past the middle school level, talked to a UNT player on Facebook and have played a pickup game at the rec you know something we all don't.

  13. What do the apologists and people like Andrew have to say right about now? If you go back and look at last year at the end of the year Alzee, Tony, Roger, Walton, and Holmen were playing huge minutes down the stretch and Alzee and Tony played almost every minute in Hot Springs and we were awfully close to being in the NCAA tournament. So we still have Alzee, Tony, and Roger playing huge minutes but is it because we have Jordan instead of Walton is that why we can't beat Monroe?

No it's not. It starts and ends with the man in charge. He has totally sucked the life out of a program that worked so hard to be an 18-22 win team playing to go to the big dance every year. He may be a great guy but this has been a disaster. I have already heard people say they won't renew their season tickets next year.

  14. ...? When did I ever say that. Typically it does not but I guess it depends on how you run it or what you consider a 2-3. So not sure. Bu thanks for trying to out me down to make yourself better. What ever it takes. I just want this team to tuen it around. It is not that much to ask.

I wasn't try to bash you or make myself feel better, I was just asking you a question since you like to attack people's basketball IQ quite often. And you are the one that brought up running a 2-3 to defend the 3 point shot which makes us question your IQ.

  15. calvin" post=1360761135"]Just curious here but didn't your basketball IQ take a huge hit when you said a 2-3 zone was used to defend the 3 point shot?

Syracuse runs a 2-3 zone every time dowm. They rank no. 8 in 3 point defense. Maybe it is someone else's IQ taking a hit. Boeheim sucks as a coach. He probably won't last, oh, I don't know, maybe another 30 years. That zone will never work. Teams are tearing him up shooting 28 percent on 3s in that zone. It's like he plays NT every night.

Never mind the fact that all Syracuse runs is 2-3 and they recruit athletic big guys who can run it and run it well by matching up with people and trapping people and making it hard on anybody they play because of their length. Also because you have to be patient against their zone it often times forces other teams to take bad 3's because of their length. But what do I know. I don't talk to players or don't play at the rec to get inside info to enhance my IQ.

But ask anybody other than Syracuse about a 2-3 and they will tell you that you are going to give up open outside shots.

  16. Any intelligent who knows a darn about basketball could have told you this. But of course we have people like emmit and nt90 who have an extensive resume and knowledge of basketball. Why listen to an NBA scout, shwan Marion, another coach, or any one else... Just listen to these talking heads here on the mean green boards. They can use all the asinine metaphors of baking cookies they want. Their basketball iq is on par with Shawn Bradley's athleticism.

  17. I may or may not have directed a player or two to this site. Let's just say that most people on this site lack basketball knowledge and have zero grasp on what is going on. Example... People saying Chris jones is transferring. Laughable

The only thing that I have a grasp on is we suck.
