  1. I'm not certain that Dodge will be fired. He could just be reassigned since he has another year on his contract. Todd has been a good ambassador for North Texas; he just can't win.

That way, it wouldn't matter whether you hired the new coach early or late. Or, if you allowed an interim coach to finish the season since Todd would just be reassigned.

Would Todd swallow his pride and stay on as QB coach?

  2. I think that UNT has to post a job opening for a month as I recall after DD was let go. Don't know if that still stands or not at UNT but...

...TDodge will not publicly throw in the towel but mentally he wouldn't be normal if he hasn't already said in the back of his mind that, "this UNT gig is just not mean't to be."

"IF" we have to replace Dodge after he loses another and cannot reach 7 wins, then I think Rick V has to post a job posting thru the usual university channels and then start putting out feelers for a "name" coach. Folks, you just don't hire an assistant from a losing program and I hope UNT does not break that trend.

UNT needs a name more than any program I can think of right now. especially here in Texas and specifically in the DFW Metrplex. Name Coach + New Stadium can warp speed us into something we've not seen since the last time we had a name coach.

"IF" we need a new coach, UNT might have to get a name that we will be play a part of his own personal recycling of a career, but we have to get the attention of recruits and with the right name coach you can. Recruiting? This is where we are losing the games no matter how close they are--hardly a revelation. Which "name coach? Who knows but in the next few weeks I'm sure we will go another cycle on that, too, but maybe this time with some fresh new names.

I got to listen to the last part of the game after a DJ gig I had earlier this evening, and I just couldn't believe these young men had to go thru another heart-breaker, but 25 years from now when people look at career wins for UNT coaches, these close losses will not show up in the online UNT football media guide for Dodge's tenure in Denton. I am so sorry for TDodge as I (like many of you) think he is a class act who just has not been able to put all the pieces together in Denton.

We need a name coach who has the collegiate experience to win a good percentage of games because he has out-coached his opponent's HFC. We also need a name coach who will help us market the hell out of this new football palace that needs to average at least 25,000 per home game next Fall. This new stadium will get the attention of many out there who would fit the name coach criteria and I don't think he will have an empty cupboard when he gets to Denton. Just my .02

  3. Point taken, I agree. But I feel like it is worse when a teams fans/alum think they are world beaters and have nothing to base those actions on. In reality they have done nothing except past mediocrity and a couple of good seasons. I would be talking about Texas Tech alum/fans.

Atleast those other schools have something to show for.

Because they are like any other big school fans - they act like douches. Michigan fans are the same, LSU, etc. Go down the line with any of the big names and you have douchebaggery running rampant in the fan base. Michigan ran off Lloyd Carr. LSU fans are clamoring for Les Miles to be fired.

Look just an hour north to OU. Those douches want to run off their freshman quarterback who had better numbers this season than Josh Heupel did during the Sooners' 2000 national championship season. They are constantly wanting to fire this guy or that guy from the coaching staff that gave them seven Big 12 titles and four national championship games in the oughts. They're spoiled, f'ing douchebags.

The problem with Texas fans, OU fans, Michigan fans, etc. is that they are drunk on their past. They bang on their own coaches, players, and opposing fans for ridiculous stuff.

Here's a prime example of Texas douchebaggery from Hornfans.com. This guy is running down Garrett Gilbert, last year's Gatorade National Player of the Year, because he turned the ball over five times against the best team in college football after being thrown into action due to McCoy's injury: http://forums.hornfans.com/php/wwwthreads/...;o=0&fpart=

This Longhorn douche thinks the hit on Colt McCoy should have been a penalty: http://forums.hornfans.com/php/wwwthreads/...;o=0&fpart=

Here's a gaggle of 'Horn douches complaining about next season based on last night's game: http://forums.hornfans.com/php/wwwthreads/...;o=0&fpart=

You get the same douchebaggery at Soonerfans.com after they lose. They are douchebags because they have no sense or feel for reality.

The only exception to the douchebaggery rule I can think of is the Nebraska fanbase.

  4. Screaming Eagles...Screaming Whiners.

Our team should compete with BCS teams...

If UNT wins a OOC game in the next two seasons it will be an upset. Wake up and smell the roses folks this program has been at the bottom for a long time. Winning the SBC in the past was bragging my date wasn't the ugliest at the dance. The facilities, conference and athletes are considered the bottom of the barrel. The only positive that has happened around this program for years was the hiring of Dodge.

So stop your whinning. This program is ugly the only hope is Dodge. If he brings this program up and has 7-5 season plus a cheese bowl win he'll be gone. Why would he remain at UNT? Oh yeah because all the support the fan base has given? ROFL...

I see the shit storm heading your way...

RUN NOW AND NEVER COME BACK!!!

  5. In the late 1960's the Iowa Park Hawks (3a high school football team, in the 60's 2a) had the Mean Green nickname and put it to good use when they won the 1969 and 1970 2a State Championships... the nickname has somewhat stuck around. The car wash in town is called the 'Mean Green Car Wash' and the Iowa Park High School marching band is referred to as 'The Mean Green Marching Machine'.

Will we ever solve this mystery.

Also, does anyone have the stats for the 1968 defense?

Hasn't this been discussed at great lengths is past threads throughout the years?

    Sam Moon

Damn... The stadium will be built out of plastic jewelry and will fall apart within 1 yr, but on the plus side we can have a Sam Moon store inside the stadium and attract about 2.5 million women from DFW that seem to love plastic jewelry. Hmmm.
