  1. Offensive Line It was somewhat of a mix and match game along the offensive line last year, but the unit is shaping up to be better in 2014. Three starters return including both tackles and an anchor at center. Here’s a look at the projected SMU offensive line starters ahead of fall camp: Contenders: Chauncey Briggs (So.); Seaver Myers (So.); Travis Firster (RS-Fr.); Taylor Lasecki (Jr.); William Barns (Fr., Highland Park); Daniel McCarty (So.); Christian Chamagua (So.); Kris Weeks (Jr.); Taylor Reich (Jr.) Projected starters: LT Briggs, LG Myers, C Lasecki, RG McCarty, RT Weeks Read more: http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2014/07/smu-projected-starters-not-too-many-question-marks-along-ol-but-unit-must-improve.html/
  2. SMU has the following home games in 2014: Texas A&M TCU Cincy Memphis South Florida Houston That's a pretty impressive home schedule in my book UNT has this in 2014 SMU Louisiana Tech Nicholls State Southern Miss Florida Atlantic Florida International My thought is this, SMU is looking to ramp up their attendance numbers and games against A&M and TCU will help that a lot. Houston should be a good conference game crowd as well. Cincy, Memphis and South Florida not so much... For us the SMU game is the best shot at a sell out and a great regional opponent for us, similar to TCU for SMU. La Tech should bring a good amount of fans and maybe some for Southern Miss but they both have been down. Nicholls and the Florida schools won't bring any or very few. I guess my point is this, it is very hard to hit attendance goals when you are expected to have your fans alone fill your stadium up 5 out of 6 games a year. SMU has 3 games where they should get a very good visiting attendance. C-USA didn't do us any favors by scheduling two Florida school home games in one year. The other thing is, why would Texas A&M be willing to play at SMU as Baylor, Texas Tech and others before them have yet we can't seem to land the elusive Big 12 opponent? Our stadium is similar in size. I don't think people realize how big getting a team like that to come to Apogee and Denton would be. Especially with the fence sitting fans who are content to sit in front of their TV's and not experience the glory of Apogee and The Hill.
  3. SMU football coach June Jones, Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle and Texas Rangers manager Ron Washington teamed up to support the Positive Coaching Alliance for North Texas in the Coffee with the Coaches at the American Airlines Center on Wednesday. The program also included PCA founder and CEO Jim Thompson and Mavericks radio play-by-play announcer Chuck Cooperstein. Since its founding in 1998, PCA has provided impact workshops for youth and high school coaches, parents and youth sports organization leaders and high school student-athletes. Jones, 61, is starting his seventh season with the Mustangs. Do you see yourself finishing your career with SMU? I dont know how to answer that. Im probably going to coach three to five more years somewhere. I get really attached to my kids, so its hard to move, its very difficult for me. Most of the kids come because youre the coach. So they made the commitment, and I always talk about commitment. So its very hard to move. What are your thoughts on the new College Football Playoff, a four-team, seeded playoff? I see the [old] BCS probably going into four conferences, like they wanted originally. Were at five [power conferences] now, but I think theres still one more movement coming. 4. DENTON — UNT will host rival SMU at 11 a.m. on Sept. 6 in a game that will be broadcast nationally by Fox Sports. Read more: http://collegesportsblog.dallasnews.com/2014/05/north-texas-smu-football-game-given-early-kickoff-tv-broadcast.html/
  5. Biggest Potential Sleeper Game- In somewhat of a rivalry game, SMU and North Texas will clash in what should be a dandy. North Texas was a surprise this season, going 9-4 and winning the Heart of Dallas Bowl. UNT does lose a lot of experience from that team, but head coach Dan McCarney has recruited well and has the program on the upswing. Bragging rights will be on the line in this one.
