  1. Top returnees: QB Andrew McNulty, RB Antoinne Jimmerson, C Kaydon Kirby, WR Carlos Harris, WR Darvin Kidsy, TE Marcus Smith, DT Sir Calvin Wallace, DE Chad Polk, LB Fred Scott, LB Jamal Marshall, CB Kenny Buyers, K Trevor Moore, P Blake Macek Strengths: Quarterback Andrew McNulty returns to lead the North Texas offense and tossed three touchdown strikes during the Mean Green spring game. He will get help from receiver Carlos Harris, whose 863 receiving yards last season leads Conference USA returning players. Kicker Trevor Moore also has been steady, earning Freshman All-America honors after hitting 15-of-17 field-goal attempts and connecting on 37-of-37 extra-point attempts. Eight players joined North Texas in the spring, with the hope they can help address some of the problem on both sides of the ball. “There's a lot of competition in this room,” McCarney told his players after the spring game, according to the school's website. “We've got a chance to be a damned good football team.” Read more: http://www.orlandosentinel.com/sports/college/college-gridiron-365/os-college-football-countdown-no-109-north-texas-2015-post.html
  2. MARBLE FALLS — As the Arizona Cardinals closed out the 2015 NFL Draft by choosing Louisville’s Gerald Christian as “Mr. Irrelevant” with the final pick May 2, former Marble Falls High School offensive lineman Cyril Lemon’s heart sank. But then Lemon, who was a four-year starter at right guard for the University of North Texas, was flooded with calls from front offices around the league asking him if he’d like to sign a free agent contract and head to their camp. Among the callers were the Dallas Cowboys, the Chicago Bears, the Atlanta Falcons, the Miami Dolphins, the Kansas City Chiefs and the New Orleans Saints. In the end, Lemon chose New Orleans, the city he left as an eighth-grader to escape Hurricane Katrina, though returning to Louisiana wasn’t really a factor in his decisions, he said. “I felt like I had a better chance of making the team,” he said. “I like the style of offense they run. It’s my best option to make the team.” He said he also considered the Cowboys. The Saints’ offensive line coach is Bret Ingalls. Lemon said he looks forward to asking questions and learning the ways of being a professional athlete. “I think I’ll enjoy any NFL coach,” he said. “I’m there to learn, to grow.” Read more: http://www.dailytrib.com/2015/05/04/saints-coming-marching-in-for-former-marble-falls-lineman/#ixzz3ZDPgPDnf
  3. June is almost here. And when it comes to UNT sports, that means its time to start the off-season questions series on Mean Green football. Over the next few weeks, when we arent tracking down recruits or going over the news of the day, we will examine where UNT stands heading into the 2014 campaign. UNT is coming off a great year that saw the Mean Green finally break its streak of eight straight losing seasons, win consecutive games for the first time since 2004 and finish 9-4 after beating UNLV in the Heart of Dallas Bowl. The win was just the third in a bowl game in UNT history. So where does that leave UNT heading into next season? Thats the overarching question, and the first in our off-season series.
