I can promise you Riley is already having more fun than Tre'.
Ever been to Austin??

does he ever!
Ricky 'V' explains his theory of how money will appear for a stadium. Joe is skeptical.

Correct
Incorrect. Have you seen the secondary? They are an improved group even without any help from the D-line. TD's running backs looks better than last year too. The O-line looks much imp[roved as well. The kicking game looks improved as well.
DD's best OOC results are comparable to TD's OOC results during a rebuilding process. My point: we are getting better.
Rebuilding is a lot like sausage. Everyone loves the results but no one wants to see what goes into making it.
Gonna have to be patient.
I am not disagreeing this won't take time. I just want to see more than 3 points. You are right about the O-line being somewhat better. However, I have seen all 3 games and the seconday still looks terrible. Granted there might be a few freshmen that have some skill, but it is going to take a lot more DeLoach to make them solid. They were absolutely lost at times against Tulsa and they faced a young QB against LSU. Not sold on much improvement from our DB's. They might be a good unit in a season or two. I also don't think our backs are what Jomario was at times, even last season.
I like some of TD's guys dont get me wrong, but I expect more from the offense. 3 points is inexcusable against anyone.
And I still truly feel that Rice will beat us. We have no answer for their QB or one of the best WR's in the country in Jerrett Dillard.

Mitchell is going to be a good quarterback. He has the talent, he just needs experience in the system.
Agreed. That is very evident by simply watching him. QB's thrive under June. This will be no different.

Dude what did you expect. Did you see any of our earlier perfomances? If you did then you should be able to tell that we perfomed much better against far superior competition. If we play this way against rice, we should win. Of course no one likes losing. As far as hanging in the belt being good enough, what more do you want. Sorry but we are probably not playing for the bcs title this year, get over it. That's just not where we are right now. Dodge is overhalling an f'd up dickey team. So improving against the national champs is something to talk about. And winning the belt is good enough for now and would be a huge step forward. I feel like your being a pretencious d bag with these questions.
Hate to disagree with you, but last year TD was overhauling DD's team. This year we are seeing next to no progress with quite a few Dodge players. The only positive that I see is that Gio is not throwing picks. Every other aspect of the game looks very similar to last season. Pretentious?? I just want to see things getting better, and maybe win an out of conference game. But another year will go by and we will be winless in our OOC games. I like you am looking for positives right now, but I guess I am not seeing many as the rest of you. In my mind, due to what I have seen so far from both teams - Rice is a better football team than North Texas at this point and I am bracing for another dissapointing Saturday.
Also, I never even mentioned anything about being a national power in the BCS picture, so don't put words in my mouth and refer to me as a 'd-bag'. And maybe, like some here, I'm beginning to become disenchanted with the next few years of this program. I hope this is just the young kids taking their lumps, but it's really hard to see widespread improvement right now. Hopefully we will all be surprised next week in Houston.

Seemed to me we were completely out-played. I don't like the moral victory of covering the spread. We didn't even find the End Zone once. Can this team hang in the Belt??....Sure, but is that good enough? Seriously? Are we somewhat satisfied with this?

Omen = superstition.
Mean Green=Don't know what the hell we are doing

Riley Dodge's 1st pass in college was a pick. Granted, it wasn't all his fault, but that still sucks. (Still wondering why he is playing this season)

I think the Montgomery/Dunbar duo will get 100 yards on the ground. Dunbar could have one of those break out games like Jamario did against Colorado.
The two combining for 100 could happen, but to exect anything jamrio like is a little out there. All we can do is hope. No matter how it happens, I just hope it isn't a complete embarrassment. We have had our fill of that in recent years.
-
Yes it is. If any of these can be achieved I'll be content.
I am right there with you....however it's sad that we have been reduced to these weak-ass expectations.
-
...UNT rushes for more than 100 yards.
...UNT doesn't turn the ball over.
...UNT scores 20 or more points.
...LSU scores 50 or less points.
...We don't miss any XP's/FG's.
If all of this happens, I will never criticize Todd Dodge again.
That is a lot to ask of our football team.

This is going to be a disaster. It is not unrealistic to think that North Texas will give up anywhere from 50 to 70 points and not even score twice. This team won the national championship for good reason last season. They have some of - if not THE best athletes in the SEC. This game is going to be on par with last year's OU game or the opener against Texas back in 2004. I hope that we can see some positive things, and continue to watch Gio grow into the fantastic QB that he is, but I like our neighbors to the South, I am evacuating any thoughts that this will be a game, and going towards safety. What is 'safety'?? Safety is not allowing myself to even imagine the impossible.
After saying all that....I hope that our offense executes well, our defense suddenly figures it all out, and our special teams decide to cover a kick. I would love to see us give a great effort and lose with some dignity. However, I feel that losing to 3 quality teams will get these guys ready for Rice, and then a step-down in talent when we hit Belt play. Dominating the Belt used to be fun, and it can be again THIS YEAR. Let's just pray for some progress and those that are fearing the wrath of Ike.

Reading that is like smiling at that cute kid who comes screaming into the room and letting everyone know about his imaginary friend. However I love the optimism, we could use a little of that after the arse-kickings we have had to endure over the past two weeks. Kick ass in Baton Rouge!

We will not cover the spread.(42 last I checked) And it kills me that I think that.
-
This thread is pretty damn depressing if you really think about it.
-
Ya but I don't see it getting any better. If it doesn't take a new stadium to get the program better, it would have happened a long time ago or at least in the early 2000's with all those conference championships. Face it, it's now or never.
Agreed.

Is it just me or does Riley not have the size to be a QB at the d-1 level?
-
Give me the Tigers....(calling bookie)

I don't think anyone has the energy to debate this tired discussion.

Anything less than 25k would be a disappointment.
Who is your dealer?

We're 20 pt. dogs.
That is about right.

The newspaper industry across the country is in a bind financially, the DMN for the amount of cutbacks they have had in the past 2-3 years does a pretty decent job of covering the 5th major media market in the country. SMU is in their backyard, and any good news/sports director knows you give 1st crack to the team in your own backyard, especially with a new high profile coach. If we remember they did make TD a front page story above the fold. If our economy wasn't in the crapper, the paper wouldn't rely only on Brett's fine work in the DRC and it would have more extensive coverage. As a NT alum, I hate to call a spade a spade, but this is a losing program. Granted, things could get better, but until they are - none of us should whine about not having a full page in the DMN about getting murdered in a game that is not even on television.
I also don't want people to blame the media as a whole for ignoring the program either. NT does get coverage, even in Dallas. Yesterday we had George on the Ticket for a full segment to look at the K-State game, and we referenced it all afternoon. During the week Jub mentions the program on his show too. Granted it isn't always taken seriously by others, but in their defense there is a good reason for that.
-
I know he had a rough debut, but I think that Bo Levi Mitchell will thrive and be a real badass in a few years in Jones offense.
-
Rice does look beatable. They would be trailing if SMU had ANY defense. I am sure that a DeLoach led unit would not be making the same mistakes. The Owls QB is pretty good though, however I think that Gio is already up to his level. I am soooo cautiously optimistic this season.
