  1. I'm not sure about some of that stuff. AK is a great guy. The players love him, and we all know he can recruit his ass off (even out recruit USC and UCLA at times). But I doubt his actual coaching abilities at the moment. That OL littered with seniors looked far from impressive. We also have very little idea about how we can manage with x's and o's. He may turn out to be a genius, or another dud. I am saddened to see him go as a recruiter, but I wouldn't be so fast to name him a head coach (let alone an OC). Time will tell though.

X's and O's are not problem for the guy.

  2. Working on the SMU sidelines for the past 3 years I have come away very impressed with Adrian Klemm. The guy joined June's staff a few years back as an unpaid assistant and very quickly turned into an outstanding OL coach and his recruiting ability has been award winning. His in game adjustments and ability to get through to his linemen was very noticeable from drive to drive. He turned a not that great OL into a solid one in very short order.

After winning a few SB's withe Pats, getting great D1 assistant experience under a seasoned and well respected head coach, and showing the ability to land recruits out of state - AK will be a head coach down the road if he wants it. Great dude and easily the most impressive coach on June's staff. Wish him all the best at UCLA.

  3. Yep, which is another reason why I can't stand him. Went here yet he blows his load for t.u.

You realize this is Craig Way's career you are speaking of right? Rich too....Hell I work on the SMU broadcast and am a NT alum. Because Rich and Craig might get a little 'homerish' is because they have invested time and energy in their work. Also, it's probably because they have gotten to know some good people in the programs. Believe it or not there are good people at other schools, not just UNT.

Some here like to give me shit because I work on the SMU radio crew.....well I guess they can do that if they like. However, I would argue those people don't have a fucking clue about my career or the industry. They just want to throw rocks because an alum is not championing their rooting interest.

There are 119 of these jobs in D1 football. If your career is in radio or play by play - you don't pass up chances to get one of them. No matter what your diploma says.

Hell, Hank went to KU. Do you think it's fair for Jayhawk fans to bash him in a public forum, because he is doing what is best for both he and his family?

You are a cop right?? Do you work in the town you grew up in? Chances are no....if you did great, but if not I can't imagine that anyone here would throw hate your way because of it.

  4. I do love the fact admission for students is zero. I went to just about every single game when I was there because of it. Made it up last night for the win over UTA. Loved the student section and the noise they made throughout. The band was great as always, and the scene overall has improved in recent years...winning does that I guess. Took 3 people that have never been before and they were very impressed. They said the Pit is kind like a mini version of old Reunion. I have always thought that too.

If this thing keeps getting better, the designated student area will grow just like the program has under Johnny. Great night, been bragging about it all day.

  5. I see no one on GMG has ever had a change of heart, quit a job they didn't like, or dropped a class that wasn't going their way. I changed majors because I wasn't doing well, Biochemistry just wasn't for me. I'll one day quit my job in public accounting, leaving my coworkers at a disadvantage for tax season. Draw a parallel to your own life and stop acting like you wish death upon this man. GMG's obsession with Vizza is crazy, move on.

  6. No offense GGB beacuse I certainly appreciate all that the Green Guys did, and do, in promotion of the team. But there is simply NO excuse why KNTU did not broadcast the game. None. KNTU should have the UNT football game on regardless.

Like it or not UNT is still a place of learning. The kids who call the HS games are doing just that. If 88.1 was the exclusive home of NT Football then you would have a point. But the fact it's on 100.7 (a much stronger frequency in DFW) makes it alright in my eyes.

  7. I understand that it is frustrating that today's game was on 100.7 only, but let's all keep in mind these HS playoff games are a big deal to the young broadcasters that are announcing them. I know that it isn't exactly pro Mean Green. However, these guys are getting to show why the University of North Texas is a true leader in the country in producing quality broadcasters. Back to the hate.

  8. Just heard coach Chico's postgame with Jub. I gotta say I am fired up. The guy can obviously coach and is no stranger to the College game. That has been very apparent since TD was let go. Love the guy's attitude and passion. You could really sense that he was enjoying his work. The kids are buying. We should go ahead and take the interim tag off of him. There I said it. Lock the gate.

  9. First of all, I think the MGRN of Jub & Hank is premium and I don't know about the other thing you mention--haven't visited it in a while. I've listened to many college football broadcasting teams across the Southwest beginning with Kern Tips and Dave "All Time Homer" South in the old SWC Exxon Network back in the 60's and believe me..........we have a very good broadcasting team with George Dunham and Hank Dickenson; quite frankly, not sure why they haven't won some statewide awards I understand are out there for collegiate football broadcasts.

One year we had all our games televised but the team sucked that year so........do you highlight a football program that is not on top its game by televising it? I have no idea about that.

Name Coach? I think at this stage of our football history we may be forced to go with a name coach and that is where we're at now on the eve of a new stadium opening and our location where UNT may have to do a bit more to get the much needed local or statewide media attention. Now there will be different degrees of what we will all call a name coach, but we need one that will all but give North Texas the "you mean UNT was able to hire HIM" response.

Name Coach? Don't know if that coach is out there right this minute but things change fast in the NCAA but please........I don't think we recycle (again) from our losing past and that should be a given. As we know, this hire will be a totally different kind of hire than we've ever had in our history in light of whats being built between the 2 Texas interstates.

    GMG!

Not bashing Jub and Hank at all. They are greatness and dear friends of mine. I was referring to the online video stream. Sorry to confuse you.

  10. Seeing what happens inside of that program up close I can say that June leaving in the next few years is not the given that some here think. Our new stadium will help, especially when it comes to the upcoming series with the Ponies. However, one thing I would like to see is more TV coverage. I want to say just one or maybe two of SMU's games are not on TV this season. They also have a pretty good week to week behind the scenes show on FSSW and CBSCS called 'The Climb'. Also ESPN is doing a 30 for 30 on the '09 season.

UNT is on the tube 4 or 5 times?? Not good enough at all. Sure the Belt doesn't have it together at all when it comes to a TV deal, but the school needs to approach 21 or 33 or something. I know this is an old argument on this board, but considering NT is an elite Radio, TV, and Film school it maddens me to know that our fans who can't make it to Denton or a road game have to rely on Jub and Hank or MG Premium.....which let's be honest.....ain't all that premium.

As much as some SMU folks irk me, they do seem to have their crap and $ together now.

  11. Rick, I wrote out a long ass Plumm like response, but I figured it can be summed up shortly in like 3 sentences.

You're a good guy - one of the best fans we have. I wish we had tens of thousands of people that cared as much about the Mean Green as you do. But your my way or the highway tenor (about this and several other NT related subjects) is the kind of thing that pushes people away rather than embraces them. There's that saying about honey draws more than vinegar - at times you'd be well inclined to follow it.

  12. I'm sure this has been covered before, but I am tired of 105.3 The Fan bad mouthing the Mean Green. They even referred to UNT at North Texas State last week. Nice huh? Shows their really up to date on things. I would like to see our radio shows support all the local D/FW teams. Cowboys, Stars, Rangers, FC Dallas, Mavs etc, but no. It is clearly a Cowboy station which is great, but last week they were bashing UNT and how the football program should be dropped. This morning, they mentioned all the local college team's scores except UNT even after our great win over FAU. I've heard their station bash UNT backwards and forwards since their format change and I've had enough. I will go back to XM or The Ticket. At least I won't have to listen to them trash our school. And if they're not bashing UNT, they bash the STARS. I love my college football and my hockey...it would be nice to see our radio hosts support their local teams. Am I asking too much?

A- Why in the hell do you listen to that God-awful station.

B- Radio hosts are not paid to wear pom-poms. It's an opinion driven medium. Wish people could get their arms around that a little more.

C- That station really blows, hopefully the new PD will clean some house.

  13. Saw the game up close last night on the sideline. I do think The Frogs didn't play their best, but the SMU defense played a solid game against a QB who takes very good care of the ball and forced 2 turnovers.

I know nobody here wants to hear it(and I try not to think about it)but the Ponies are light years ahead of us right now. Their talent at this point is marginally better, but their coaching staff is superior to TD and his staff. The ability for the position coaches to make in game adjustments and have the kids execute it properly is what makes that team able to hang with a top 5 opponent.

I go back to it again and again...why on this green Earth did RV allow Dodge to roll with a full HS staff in year one? We were all blinded by the excitement of what Todd was supposed to bring, but we should have all known better when we saw his initial staff. Sad really, because when we play the Ponies in few years they will be even better. Bah!
