  1. I couldn't make it to Troy tonight and the way we played, I'm almost glad I didn't. I did get to watch you guys and MTSU on TV along with our game.

First of all, Congrats! I think you just cleared your biggest hurdle on winning the Sunbelt again. I can't believe the mojo ya'll have over the Belt.

Now on to Troy. No fear from us boys. We lost 27 to 7 and it should have been much, much worse. Had a couple of goal line stands that held them to field goal tries and they started running out the clock in the 4th quarter. Our QB had 4 INTs and we also had a blocked punt. Our offense is the worst in america, period. The one TD we had was a 72 yard punt return from McKelvin. Offensive line just pulls the old "TORO" and our QB gets killed every play. No rushing game to speak of. Unless UAB is just that good, which, heck, they may be, then Troy will not be a factor. Troy had no sacks and forced zero turnovers. Just to add a little injury to insult, one of our two best linebackers (Johnson) got injured and will miss several weeks and may be out for the year.

Not a good day in Trojan land. Just take it easy on us when you play us. Find your "investment advisors" and take North Texas and the points.

  2. If PETA makes Jack State or South Carolina change their mascots, I think they should change it to veal. The Jacksonville State Fighting Veal. That has a nice ring to it, don't you think? Just for spite, dress the fat baby cow mascot (let's call him Jerky) in a mink coat and let Ted Nuget shoot a flaming arrow through it on the 50 yard line before every game.

  3. Dear Mean Green and fellow Sunbelt fans,

The NCAA's recent decision to ban Native American mascots and symbols has rocked the Trojan nation to its very core. Having just recently completed the changing of all of our logos and changing our building names, we truly feel for the institutions who are facing this huge financial and emotional burden. Troy University was more than happy to comply with the NCAA's request to drop the offensive term, "STATE" from our name. Much like the Denton, TX natives and the Memphis,TN natives before us, the citizens of Troy, Alabama were deeply offended by the word "STATE". The day the last "STATE" was taken off of the Adams Adminstration building at the main campus in Troy was a happy day indeed. The collective sighs of 17,000 proud men, women, and children were heard around the city of Troy as the "E" hit the ground for good. We all thought that only good times were ahead, now that we no longer had to cower under the shadow of the horrible "STATE". We all thought wrong...

Upon hearing of the NCAA's decision in favor of Native American protestors, other groups are now beginning to surface. Irishmen and women have left the bar to go to NCAA headquarters in Indianapolis to protest Notre Dame. PETA is horrified about the numerous animal mascots in use by colleges and universities. Pagan groups are irrate at the Blue Devil, Sun Devil, and Demon Deacon mascots. Christian groups are deeply offended by the mascots of the Providence Friars and San Fransico Dons. Even representatives from the Weather Channel have expressed their intentions to ban the deeply offensive natural disaster school mascots like the Hurricanes, Green Wave, Crimson Tide, and Tornadoes.

We sat in our homes in the small town of Troy. Doors locked and curtains closed, hoping we would somehow be immune to this latest dispaly of politcal correctness run a-muck. Unfortunately for us, we too would share in the misfortunes of the rest of the collegiate world. At approximately 10:15 this morning, our greatest fears were realized. A man dressed in full armour and a plumed helmet stood at the doorsteps of the Chancellor's house. He claimed he was a decendent of the Trojans of Troy and he demanded that we immediately change our nickname and mascot. Similar reports have been trickling in from Arkansas Little Rock, USC, and other teams with Trojan, Viking, and even Pirate mascots (AYE MATEY!). It seems there are small, but very passionate groups who are decedents of these now defunct nations and they are deeply offended by our mascots.

After hours of research, the fine minds of Troy University have came up with a solution to our mascot problem. After trying each and every mascot we could come up with, and finding something offensive to some minority either living or dead, we at Troy University have decided to do the only thing we can do. We have came up with a way, the only way, not to offend any minority anywhere. We have found the one group that can not be offended: the majority. From this point on, the Troy University Trojans will be known as The Troy Fighting White Crackers (thanks to TSUfaninCali for the official name). New logos and traditions are being developed as we speak. The Troy Fighting White Crackers will start a tradtion much like FSU's of Chief Osceola, in full Native American attire, riding his horse onto the field and planting a flaming spear at the 50 yard line. For the White Crackers, we will have our mascot Bubba (or Whitey we haven't decided yet) come out of a double-wide trailer in the north endzone. Bubba will be wearing a "wife-beater" t-shirt two sizes too small. He will ride on a camaflouge four-wheeler out to midfield. When he gets there, he will shotgun a Natural Light and then light a bottle-rocket on the big, white, saltine cracker logo. Other suggestions include tossing crackers after touchdowns, tailgating with our cars up on blocks, and putting the track back around the field for NASCAR events.

The Trojan... errr... Fighting White Cracker Nation expects other schools to follow suit soon and snatch up the Honkey, White Trash, "The Man", and "Middle of the Oreo Cookie" mascots.

    Regards,

    Troy

ps Do not think you are safe Mean Green fans! We have just received word that representatives from Seaseme Street and Crayola are on their way to Denton at this very moment!

  4. Ummm... maybe this is why Jyles didn't make the preseason all-conference team:

    http://www.thenewsstar.com/apps/pbcs.dll/a.../507120335/1006

Louisiana-Monroe starting quarterback Steven Jyles is scheduled to make his first appearance in court later this month after an arrest for allegedly fleeing police on June 25.

Arraignment for Jyles is set for 9 a.m. July 25 in Fourth Judicial District Court, with Judge Wendell Manning presiding, according to D.A.'s office spokeswoman Vicki Houston-Hogg.

On June 25, Jyles was arrested and charged with aggravated resistance by flight, according to a Monroe Police Department offense report. Aggravated flight is a felony charge, according to Houston-Hogg. A person found guilty of that charge could face a maximum sentence of two years in prison.

Police say that Jyles also was charged with running a stop sign and a red light, which are misdemeanors.

Both ULM head football coach Charlie Weatherbie and athletics director Bobby Staub declined to comment about the case on Monday.

An arraignment is a first appearance in court or before a judge. At an arraignment, the charges against someone are read or they will be asked if they are aware of the charges against them and asked how they wish to plead.

Houston-Hogg said that aggravated flight is defined as refusal of a driver to come to a stop under circumstances where human life is endangered, knowing that he has been given a visual and audible signal to stop by a police officer. According to Houston-Hogg, circumstances of life endangerment shall be any situation where the operator of the fleeing vehicle commits two of the following acts — leaves the roadway or forces another vehicle to leave the roadway, collides with another vehicle, exceeds the posted speed limit by at least 25 miles per hour or travels against the flow of traffic.

Police say that Jyles drove into oncoming travel lanes and estimated that he accelerated to 60 mph or more in a 30 mph zone during his alleged flight.

According to the offense report, Jyles, the ULM starting quarterback was spotted driving a white 1994 Mitsubishi Galant northbound on North 19th Street about 2 a.m. on June 25.

The arresting officer said he saw Jyles travel through a flashing red light at Hudson Lane without slowing. As the officer tried to stop Jyles, he reportedly fled down numerous streets driving at high speeds and driving into oncoming traffic lanes in an attempt to avoid the stop.

Although the officer had activated his emergency lights, the vehicle continued. Police say Jyles drove through the stop sign at Royal Avenue at North 19th Street without slowing and again drove into oncoming traffic lanes before stopping at 1900 Auburn Ave. in a parking lot at Top Gun nightclub.

According to the police report, the driver turned off the vehicle's lights, cut across a gravel parking lot at a high speed and pulled between two vehicles.

As the officer approached Jyles and advised him he was under arrest, a large crowd of his friends — identified by police as ULM football players — approached and acted aggressively, according to the report.

A three-year starter who is the Sun Belt Conference's career passing leader, Jyles threw for 2,322 yards as a junior with 12 touchdown passes. For his career he has completed 586-of-1,094 passes for 6,752 yards and 43 touchdowns. The 586 completions and 1,094 attempts rank second on ULM's career lists. His 6,752 passing yards rank him third, while his 7,563 yards of total offense rank him second all-time.

  5. First of all, your game with the MUTS doesn't matter because Troy is going to beat the bejesus out of them again this year in The Gallery. The Paladium stays in Troy. Mean Green, you beat Troy, you go to New Orleans. Simple as that. Heck, you all know the MUTS will lose at least one more conference game besides Troy just on their poor coaching alone.

Second of all, you want to talk about getting hosed on the SBC schedule? Troy only has 3 home conference games (most of the teams have 4) and 2 of them are against the weakest and newest members (FAU and FIU) in the Belt. The three home conference games Troy has would also have been the three closest games to travel to for our fans and alumni base (MTSU, FAU, FIU).

All of your Saturday's don't matter this year... it's your Tuesday that counts!

  6. For those of you who forked over the extra cash for ESPNU (like me). Tonight at 9 pm CST, they are scheduled to show Troy vs LSU from last year.

We all know how it ended, but I encourage you guys to watch if able. There's hope my Green friends. My Trojans were just a little bit away from pulling it off.

I'll let you decide for yourself if the refs played a roll or not. Play special attention to the "illegal shift" call that called back a Troy go-ahead TD late in the game. There were some nice hits out of bounds on our QB as well (he eventually left the game).

By the way. Troy's QB in that game was the true freshman, DT McDowell making his first start. Yes, he's the same one that's academically disqualified for this season. Please note that he had already lost his starting job to the backup this spring before he was declrared ineligible. The two Troy running backs Betterson (#9) and Richardson (forgot his number, but he has long dreadlocks coming out the back of his helmet) are gone. As well as Ansley (free safety #10 that had an INT in this one) is gone too.

Watch if you can. Tell me what you think. Sometimes it's hard to see through my cardinal glasses what really happened.

  7. It's not rude to ask why Troy played so well against LSU and South Carolina. Beat Marshall and Mizzou. And lost to Ark State and NMSU. Every single Trojan fan was asking that question too last year. Heck, a reporter asked the coach that last year why we played so well in OOC games and couldn't do as well in conference games. He basically just said that he couldn't figure it out either and if anyone did find out to please let him know.

Troy's offensive playcalling is terrible. Sometimes I think the other teams defensive co-ordinator is calling our plays. The Trojan's special teams and defense moved up to Division 1A a few years ago, but the offense has not. Basically, if you can't count on your offense to score consistantly, you're going to lose games you shouldn't. Even worse, Troy's offense actually hurts their defense and special teams more by putting them in bad posistions, going backwards, and not staying on the field long enough for the defense to rest. Personally, I don't think the problem is with the talent. If not for Cobbs and Thomas, the best running back in the Belt the last two years would have been Troy's Betterson. What was especially amazing about his accomplishments is that the whole world knew he was going to get the ball. There was no passing game at all to even keep teams the least bit honest. From watching North Texas games and listening to them on the internet, it seems you guys always make the big pass play or mix it up just enough so the other team can't completely sell out on "D". That combined with the Mean Green's knack of forcing turnovers and not turning the ball over is why you guys have the long conference win streak.

Just out of curiosity, can one of you guys look up your turnover margin against Sunbelt teams since you've been in the conference? I'm betting North Texas is in the positive by at least a couple of dozen over the last few years. And just for kicks, look at your turnover margin in your OOC games too.

Anyways, here's to the Mean Green, here's to the Troy Trojans, and he's to the Sunbelt. I was going to try to make the trip to Denton, but since the game's on Tuesday, no can do. See you guys and gals in Troy next year (I guess, but knowing the way the Sunbelt schedule is set up, Troy vs North Texas might be played in Chicago or something).

  8. Don't put too much emphasis on the losing of our QB. He was the starter last year (for the last 6 games). This was an offense that was in the bottom 3 in passing yards per game and total yards per game. Besides, he had already lost his starting job this year to the new QB.

Troy's strategy this year on offense will probably be just to not go 3 and out every time, grind a little clock, don't go backwards with penalties and sacks, and don't turn the ball over. The defense and special teams will be relied on heavily to put the anemic "O" in good field posistion and possibly even score a few times themselves. Only the Miami Hurricanes had more non-offesive TDs (stat officially falls in an odd category called "returns for touchdowns") than Troy did last year. If everything goes well with this strategy, you win big games like Mizzou and Marshall and play close at LSU. If it doesn't go well... you lose to Arky State and New Mexico State.

  9. I live in Tuscaloosa. I wanted to see you guys play Bama, but I couldn't get out to the game. From talking with my co-workers who are really into basketball that went to the game, all of them were VERY impressed with you guys. They all said North Texas was well coached and played very well and they would win A LOT of games this year.

Good luck. See you in SBC basketball next year.
