My wife and I attended The High Porch Picnic. I'm guessing there were around 1000 people in attendance. The Presentation of the Flag was by the Marine Honor Guard. The two family members that spoke were Hayden's daughter Robin and son Kelly. Speaking on behalf of SMU was Chuck Hixson (SMU QB 1968-70) and Jerry Levias (WR 1966-68). For North Texas the speaker was Mike Henry (OL/GA 1975-77). For the Hawkeyes Head Coach Kirk Ferentz spoke about Hayden's time at Iowa. Among his former assistants present were Bill Snyder, Bobby Stoops and Dan McCarney. Robin Fry thanked the Jones Family for them allowing the event to be staged at The Star. It was a very nice service in a football setting to honor the life of one of the greatest coaches of all time! And we made it back to the Super Pit for the final 10 minutes of the UTEP game!

My wife and I watched a replay of the final shot at least 10 times from the three different angles and it was still inconclusive if Hamlet got the shot off. Let’s sweep the Texas teams this week!

I was a student at the University of Iowa when Hayden was hired in 1978. We had endured 17 straight losing seasons. He immediately turned the program around and earned a Rose Bowl berth in the third season. He made so many changes from having the visitor's locker room painted pink to put them in a more relaxed mood to creating a new Tiger Hawk Logo to the team entering the field before the game in as he called it "The Swarm" to changing the uniform to look like the Pittsburgh Steelers who had won 5 Super Bowls that decade to all the quirky sayings he had. My favorite was "Scratch Where it Itches." RIP to one of the greatest college football coaches of all time.

For me
Thursday 8/29
FIU vs Tulane - Curious to see what FIU looks like this season.
Texas State vs Texas A&M - Well we go to Kyle Field next season, might as well.
Friday 8/30
Rice vs Army - Don’t expect Rice to hang in there very long, but oh well.
Colorado State vs Colorado - Nice rivalry game to start off the week!
Saturday 8/31
FAU vs Ohio State - Not much to be said about this one.
Duke vs Alabama - Be great if there was an upset by Duke, however 99% chance it won’t happen.
Will be recording UC Davis at Cal Berkeley on Pac 12 Network Saturday 530 PM CT.

Wasn't there a deli on Hickory south of the square? Weinberger's or something like that? I have no idea if they are still around or what their food is like, but I recall seeing one down there a couple of years ago.
Weinberger's closed last year. Gyro 360 Mediterranean is now at that location at Hickory & Oakland.

Horrible officiating! The flagrant foul, the charge and the travel on the game winner. Three blind mice.

I'm extremely fortunate. My wife of 35 years and I graduated from the Univ. of Iowa in the early 80's. Over the years we have watched from afar most all Hawkeye football and basketball games on TV. I lost interest in watching the Hawkeye BB team when they had their Tony Benford type era. It was her that pushed me back into watching the games again. In 2007 our son was an invited walk-on to play for the Mean Green football team so we had another school to follow. Over the last eleven years she has only missed maybe five home games. While he was playing we went to most all road games and since he graduated we usually go to at least one road game a year. We have renewed for our second season ticket year of Mean Green BB. She often listens to non televised Mean Green road games on her phone while doing yard work. She enjoys regularly going to the Rudy's Coaches Football Show. We liked coming up to Denton from Carrollton so much that we bought our future retirement home in Denton last year. When we moved in our TV room was already painted green so she obviously called it "The Green Room" and that name has stuck. In five days we will be in "The Green Room" to watch the Hawkeyes at 230 PM then change from black & gold to green clothing and head over to Apogee. Like I said, I am extremely fortunate!

The replay of the blocking foul clearly showed Lockett used his left forearm to push off so it should have been a charge.

I had Michaels frame my son's home and road UNT jerseys. Although it was expensive at around $250 each, they did a very good job.

We are looking forward to the trip to Iowa. Just a word of caution...may want to take it easy at the tailgate if you get your seats through UNT. Our section at Iowa is the WORST. I remember someone taking a tumble, last time. Luckily only rolled a few rows. It was a 2 pm start time in 2015, as well. We were in the shade by half time. A couple that had season tickets right behind our team came up near our area to get out of the heat. They gave us their tickets, so that we could spend the second half behind the team. We were in the sun, and surrounded by natives, but we didn't care. Thinking about shopping for tickets this year! (Unless of course, they moved us to a better spot???)
I sat in those bad seats two years ago. This time I bought much better seats from Stub Hub.

My wife and I will attend. Hoping the Mean Green will be much more competitive than the trip to Kinnick Stadium in 2015. Can't decide if I root for Iowa which is our alma mater or the Mean Green where our son played. A win for the Mean Green might be the biggest win of all time for the program while it would be devastating for the Hawkeyes.

Over the last two seasons I have seen him play around eight games for Hebron. He is very talented and definitely looks like a D1 QB. This past season he was the Offensive MVP in district 5-6A. It would indeed be huge if he flips from KU to UNT!

As the coaches and players from UTKFC & UNT were shaking hands in the middle of the field as the game ended and then the Mean Green players were headed toward the student side, I noticed one lone Mean Green player walking down near the south goal line headed to the locker room. It was #22 Jimmerson. To separate from the celebrating team right after the first win of the year clearly says something is wrong.

Without a doubt Carlos is a very talented player and certainly gives full effort each and every game. My son was on the team from 2007-2011 which included Coach Canales' first interim stint. If my son had choose to ignore a Social Media ban that Canales also announced to the public in his press conference then I would have been extremely disappointed and upset with my son.

My son will be wearing green. My wife will be wearing black & gold. I will be wearing black & gold with not a sewn together cap but rather a green Hawkeye cap.

I appreciate greenjoe and AAUNT efforts for getting this project going. I also agree with others that we should keep it professional with Go Mean Green and leave off #CJK5H or anything else that might be seen as derogatory.

At the next practice they need work the entire time on layups and 2-3 foot shots. We are atrocious from close range.
