  1. Coach Berry recruited Zach and Blake Burris when he was at Army. The man impressed me and was very forthcoming and frank about the situation at Army. He was in a very tough situation there and I felt bad for him and his staff when they were fired. If it hadn’t been for the 5 yr commitment after graduation and the distance from home I know Zach would have signed with him. His successor, Ross, hasn’t faired much better. I think he is a very capable coach, runs an exciting brand of offense and is great in the homes of recruits as I can personally attest to. I think if given the opportunity he would be successful in a situation such as UNT.

  2. Summer time it is okay tho ( to work) ; Bomar is not the first or will he be the last to get caught. Im sure someone could dig up some dirt on every major football player at every BCS school.

You may be right but I think the universities and the NCAA keep much closer tabs on these summer jobs than most people realize. From what I understand the higher profile programs are definitely watched much closer for any type of infraction upon these lines, thus the universities do a much better job of policing themselves which is why Bomar was kicked off the team. The NCAA for all their faults made believers out of everyone when they dropped the hammer on SMU. But you are probably correct that if you look hard enough you will always find a player with their hand out and crooked alum looking to feel important.

  3. Damn give the kid a break ( Bomar). We have all been a 19/20yr old broke college student at one time. Im sure that 90% of the people on this board would have done the samething as Bomar did. Football players do not have the xtra time to work between practices and class work ,  so therefore are pretty much broke. Just put yourself in his or any other 20 yr old college students shoes , some guy says hey show up at my dealership for a few hours and Ill give ya $5000. How many on this board could honestly say they would have said no if you were a college kid??

Id would of took Bomar here (we all need a 2nd chance) or Snead , but to do that we have to have a coach who is willing to put more than 2 pass plays in the playbook.  biggrin.gif

If you are attending school on an athletic scholorship you are not allowed to have a job per NCAA regulations. Most athletes seem to get by without breaking major NCAA regulations.

  4. At this point in the season and the way it has gone so far I can tell you for a fact that a bigger crowd regardless of the reason for being there will be appreciated. The players are young adults and totally understand that college football is a business and somebody has to be held accountable for the product on the field.

The bigger the crowd the better!

  5. 99.9% of the time when the head coach is fired all of the coaches associated with the fired head coach are gone as well. Most coaches will want to pick their assistant coaches. I don't really see any of them staying.

  6. Hey, thanks for clarifying how bad our coaching really is. However, if I was a coach and a player on his own initiative and against my instructions attempted to field a punt bouncing across the turf I would still yank that player out of the game, period.

You know your post could fit well over on the other board. Food for thought.

  7. Well Zach has had 2 balls thrown to him tonight and caught both so i can see where you are coming from

The nicest drive of the year ends in only 3 pts. And I've said it for a while but B. Jackson is a solid receiver. He should be getting more pt than muzzy.

  8. Hey, I'm really shocked that we're wearing red jerseys this season. blink.gif

Seeing that Cobbs is now returning kickoffs, I now miss Kevin Moore more than I thought I would. Somebody please go down to Houston and drag him off his mother's sofa.

The stadium is named Eagle Stadium. They only started referring to it as Fouts Field in the early 1970s. Even in the 1980s, much of the university literature still referred to it as Eagle Stadium. Maybe some of our more senior board members can elaborate as to when/if there was ever an official name change, and if it was for the entire complex, the track facilities,  or just the football playing surface.

Just an FYI on KM, Zach tells me that he transfered to Sam Houston and will be playing there this season.

  9. I totally agree with all of you that it is definately the players responsiblity to maintain a passing grade and in no way hold the school or the coaching staff responsible for the few that can't or won't get thier priorities straight. The school provides all of the athletes with plenty of resources to insure thier success but the bottom line is you have to use those resources and more importantly you have to SHOW UP for class!

With that being said, I just didn't want all of the athletes grouped by blanket statements about how they are all a bunch of lazy, stupid slackers! I think the majority take school seriously and understand that playing ball at North Texas will likely be the end of their athletic careers. They need the degree that the school is paying for and are willing to take advantage of the opportunity provided them.

  10. Amen....

---We who were not athletes knew we had to take responsiblity for ourselves. They need too as well. They have advantages that the regular students don't have and they still mess up... They need to take things more seriously or else they don't belong in college. Some people just don't belong there and just can't succeed..

While I agree with your sentiments I would like to point out that out of 80 plus scholorship players only 4 failed to make the grade. That is a very good success rate, approximately 95%.

I'm sure it is higher than the general student population.

  11. OHMYGOD! ohmy.gif It's the "Night of the living Dead-Thread". ohmy.gif

I agree! It is no wonder people around the country don't take the program seriously. If anyone comes a lurking on this board we sure make it easy for them to question our fan support and facilities and the direction the program is taking.

If you seriously had problems at the game surely there is a better way to address the issues without airing the dirty laundry on a public forum.

On a positive note my family had a great time at the tailgate and the game and encountered no problems with the facilities or the ushers.

But you can be sure that if I we had I would have contacted the Athletic Dept to address my concerns and not came on here bitching about it because no one on this board would have been able to address my concerns anyway!
